Just watch it in 2d and save some money. The 3d was not worth paying for and you will not miss out on anything if you just go and see it in 2d. The movie was good overall so you won't be disappointed either way, but I recommend you to stick with 2d.

It's robots beating the shit out of giant beasts. That's what you go in expecting, and that's exactly what you get, with mindblowing visuals. It's one of those movies where you go in to be entertained and wowed, and it completely does just that.
There's enough shitty plot to ruin the good action parts. I don't care about the characters, so why am I forced to listen to their shitty back stories, that sequence in the middle part where there were no fighting was so awful to sit through.
3D was totally worth it but a couple dollars doesn't mean anything to me
it was really cheesy but super well-executed and I walked away thinking it was a good movie, surprisingly. total ripoff of evangelion but it was like someone actually did a good live-action eva for once.
Please don't start these silly Evangelion comparisons again. I had hoped when this movie came out, that would be the end of that. I can't believe people see "Giant Robots and monsters", and think "must be a ripoff of Evangelion" still at this point. Guillermo del Toro even said he never even watched Evangelion before.
Man they gotta make a DBZ live action movie. This movie and superman shown me its totally possible (not talking about that chit that was released a few years back)

Evangelion is so big in the minds of anime fans that anything that has giant monsters punching giant robots and even the slightest bit of angst or moodiness in a character = it was derived from Evangelion! Sad because most of the concepts in Evangelion are actually derived from 70s and 80s anime and 50s-70s kaiju films...

I know, Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha were my favorite Jaegers, shame they got so little screen time.
Hopefully it makes enough money to be a success so they can make the trilogy that del Toro said is planned, there will surely be more focus on the other Jaegers (and again hopefully new awesome Jaegers too!) in future movies.

The unedited movie was over 3 hours. There was suppose to be development for the Chinese and Russian pilots, but they chose to not have it in the final theatrical cut. It's ashamed because it would have made the movie more impactful during their fight. Instead all we got was a very short story like how the Crimson Typhoon requires three pilots and they have successfully defended China against seven kaiju attacks. The only story we got for the Russians was that they have been around for a while, which makes them quite famous and well known. Their jaeger is one of the older models, but still packs a heavy punch (which it does).
I kept thinking during the final motivational speech part how half the people Pentecost was delivering the speech to probably have no idea what he was saying.
Good movie. I'd highly recommend watching it in IMAX 3D. It had a few flaws and several cheesy lines scattered throughout the movie that I could have done without, but overall a good action movie worth seeing.
I enjoyed the movie. The writing, characters, and acting were really poor, but I did not go to see it for any of those things, and expected the acting to be mostly just filler between giant robot fighting scenes (which is more or less accurate). Apparently the original cut of the movie was over 3hrs long, and featured more footage of the Russian/Chinese Jaegers fighting, so I'm hoping for an "extended directors cut" dvd release.
