Ah, perhaps I shouldnt overthink things in this particular manga. Yeah, I agree on the gay thing. I don't have anything against it however. Gotta have manga of all kinds. Everyone is just hot for komatsu it seems. It's like harem for men only, whatever that is called. | ||

If you follow hunterxhunter the nen system works very well with the world of toriko (hell hxh even has gourmet hunters as seen in the hunter exam) the following explains their powers in hxh terms. may contain spoilers for hxh (including manga) Essentially everyone has a form of energy to project and use as their power this can manifest itself in different ways, in the beginning toriko uses the energy to reinforce his blows, eventually emitting the energy as ranged attacks, now hes transforming the energy into steel. To contrast Coco uses his energy to transmute into poison, able to emit it and eventually then reinforcing it for armor, the opposite progression from Toriko. Zebra's energy manifests as sound and shows emission, transformation properties. Sani's feelers seems to be that a of a specialist he conjures more and manipulates it. In the world of toriko I believe this energy is called "appetite energy" which the 4 kings used to defeat the 4 beast. I actually have a crazy theory that the world of toriko is the future of hxh, in which hxh was the events of the war that God stopped. The world map is the same (human world surrounded by the unknown world) even the food hunters are equivalent and the energy system feels the same as described above. Hell the hxh world even has a mechanism to create new creatures and hybrids through the chimera ants, not too much a stretch to imagine the crazy creatures from toriko can exist in a world that contains chimeras. | ||

But yeah there is a funny relation between HxH and Toriko. Toriko world is definitely influenced by HxH. When I try to introduce people to Toriko, I tell them it's a whole storyline about gourmet hunters like those in the HxH hunter exam. Then (HxH spoilers) + Show Spoiler + the author of HxH went full lazy (imo) and invented a larger outside world akin to the gourmet world in Toriko But the similarities stop here. The worlds are different enough, it's not the same universe. | ||
