I guess i'm still thinking about an explanation, for why metal benders can't bend platinum. I mean its an element, that occurs naturally so they should be able to. Edit: Think i just found out why. Apparently Platinum is one of the densest metals. Source: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/metal-alloys-densities-d_50.htmlI always love, when there's actually a reason behind things. Makes it easier to believe. I thought they choose platinum just to show off how much of a Ritzy baller, Mr.Seoto (Sp?) is. Yea, it wasnt explained the best, but from what I can tell its because its so refined that there arent little chunks of earth in them still. Anyone else love with Lin did the environment reading (not sure what to call it lol) Neutral Jing? lol I loved it, been talking with some friends and after episode 6 I knew that they would speed up the series a bit, and I think 7 did a good job of doing that while still having a small downtime (the beginning). Saw much more places, and I think Season 2 will be even better whenever that comes out. i thought the general consensus was that extremely pure metals like gold/silver/platinum were just straight up unbendable because they were pure metals not filled with the bendable earth impurities

you think aang's son would be more stronger -_-. i saw glimpses of great moves from him but cmon your dad was the avatar!

dude those words are only offensive to UK people. The rest of the world doesnt think of a homo when he hears the word bender

Platinum is only valued so high on earth because it's rare. In the TLA world platinum could just be a common metal like iron.

Your right, actually in my few mins of Google searching, i read that the even the moon is high in platinum, as are asteroids.

Maybe they have so much platinum because Sato is the Avatar equivalent of Rockefeller, Ford, and Gates combined. Or it could be a future explanation for why the mechs are so few in number.

she can't use it cause she's so detached from the spiritual state (that's what I think anywayz :p)

Maybe it's harder for her than it was for Aang though.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure entering the Avatar state requires all of your chakras to be clear, which requires at least some degree of being in-tune with your spiritual side.

wow good episode! not a fan of the CG once again, but once again, the CG blended in pretty well
mechas eh? hmm
tenzin's bending is pretty fucking epic

Aang was able to go into the Avatar State long before he met the Guru. The purpose in clearing the chakras is to let you control the Avatar State, not let the Avatar State control you.

Very true, but out of all the supposedly high level benders we've met in the show, the only impressive bending has been by Tenzin, and maybe Korra+Lin during the sport finals last episode, when they used the Water Spout/Doing good at metal bending. In general, the benders skill levels look really low. Firebenders have only used punching flames, never the whip-kicks they used before and rarely shooting it out their math. Lightning's a common thing now but despite how powerful it is, no one uses it. Earthbenders ONLY pick up earth and shoot it through the air. They haven't used it to better their movement, or to trap someone's foot or slyly catch an ankle/leg. Out of the airbenders we've seen, only one has been at a high level(Tenzin) and he bent(bended?) well tonight. The waterbenders have basically done the same as firebenders with punches of water. Rarely trapping someone, never creating mist to use to their advantage, seen ice once.
I dunno what the excuse is, but you can't tell me that these punches are more efficient/more powerful than what used to be, and supposedly we're seeing the "top" benders. Pros in the bending sport thing, son of the avatar, the avatar, son of the best earthbender/one who created metalbending, etc. What's up with that?
Finally, is it just me or is anyone else tired of seeing bender's get their asses kicked every episode? They don't have to dominate fights, but they should at least be holding their own. The extent of their defenses seems to be physical combat, instead of creating earthbending walls, flying with airbending, moving with water/water/ice walls, and if not flying, at least increased speed due to fire bending.

Korra and Lin wiped out the equalist forces and sent them retreating as just the two of them. Korra seriously stomped on Amon's #2 without any earth or water nearby -- purely with fighting skill and a small bit of firebending. My only problem is that, for a bending prodigy with 5 years of experience on Aang (relative to their shows), the scale of Korra's bending seems to be a bit tame. I figure a lot of it is her holding back for various reasons (Pro bending rules in the matches, not wanting to do too much damage in the general city, or not having anything to bend like when she was on top of the stadium). I mean we did see Aang as a 12 year old who was particularly bad at earthbending kick car sized chunks of rock out of a mountain to take down an airship with little effort.
I figure it'll ramp up as the season goes on, though. Can't blow all your awe inspiring feats of tremendous bending too early.

I have to agree here, although Tenzin is the only Airbender, so he must be the "master". I feel like as the plot progresses, we will be introduced to more of these masters that do fight with all the little things. I have some other things that I am kind of picky about.
I don't know why Lin wouldn't always walk around without the soles of her shoes (like how she used it to sense the tunnel in this episode). If she always was using that she wouldn't have been ambushed at the pro-bending final. Lin is supposedly tophs son, so she should be a master earthbender and use the sutle things that give you slight advantages. I wonder how different Republiic city would be if it wasn't entirely metal. I remember in Aang's first fight with Boomi, Boomi used his earthbending to turn the ground under Aang's feet into quicksand. Something like that would stop amon in his tracks.
Also, Mako(sp?), although a main character, is in reality just a dude off the street. We don't know how he learned to firebend. In The Last Airbender, Zuko, Iroh, and Azula were all members of the royal household, and recieved some of the best firebending training in the Fire nation. None of the underlings ever used anything more than those fire punches. I'm sure later in the anime they will introduce more master's. The only one who really should be better is Lin, who is supposed to be the earthbending master, yet she seems to inhibit the qualities that made Toph an amazing earthbender.
