I see it more as the two seeing their mutual attraction to each other, them acting on that attraction, and maybe something more will grow out of it.
The problem with this pairing is that, because they're "lesbians", everyone needs to sexualize it. It's not just about them banging in the spirit world, damnit. It's just about them having a close, clearly romantic relationship.

The thing is; Korra and Asami have always liked each other (except maybe that shit during the love triangle).
I think the biggest indication were the letters they sent during Korra's healing with Katara (and not with Mako or Bolin).

Mako dated two girls. They both started dating a woman afterward
RIP Mako's ego minus 10000 points

and if the spirit "thing" is not working, maybe asami can make a mecha "thing", so they can do the "thing" ...

The end is "as you like it." Its up to the viewer to decide if they are in a relationship or not. Personally, I like the idea of them just being good friends, because its refreshing to think that a main female character can have a relationship with someone and have it not be romantic.

To be honest pretty much all of the relationship stuff and romance in the entirety of LoK felt forced and unnatural. LoA Katara and Aang was much less cringeworthy, but LoK seemed like every episode had something to do with relationships and people breaking up and drama. It's probably the biggest minus of the entire show in my book, and most of it unnecessary. Building character doesn't necessitate teenage romance drama.

I dunno, TLA got pretty clogged up with random romance drama too (and a lot more random love interests as well). It just felt better because the main character wasn't caught up in it.

The problem is not its sexualization, the problem is the fact that just because it is lesbian, everyone thinks its a huge deal and awesome. If it was Korra and a male ending the show by holding hands, people would be like yep decent final fight shame the show has come to an end. But just because it's two woman, suddenly its AW MY GAWD THIS IS AMAZING HOLY SHIT I AM AMERICAN AND HOMOSEXUALITY IS A HUGE DEAL HERE LOLZ.

No, if Korra was with a guy (the only option is Mako) I would hate it.

I think you're ignoring how big a deal the Katara/Aang ending was for a big part of the fanbase. Shipping wars were a hilariously big deal in TLA.

Though I guess they do it by mixing earthbending and firebending. The lavabenders probably do it with a lot of friction in the earth they move.

Jin isn't an earthbender (that we know of), just a non-bending Earth Kingdom citizen

I was hoping that he would come back to say sorry about taking her ostrich horse. I also wanted Zuko to go back to Lee to make sure Lee's older brother came back home safely and to apologize for his nation's crimes. Too bad Zuko wasn't the main character of the show .

He was pretty much the secondary protagonist. He basically got the same air time as Aang, and had a ton of little side plots that were all about his development, with nothing to do with the Avatar.
