Specifically fire bending feels completely neutered to the point where it isn't even scary at all. Everything is just earth bending and some air bending which is a bit sad after all the badass fire benders we had in TLA. I guess the overall quality of benders in Korra isn't the same as TLA as we had people that were some of the best benders ever to live. "You know when I'm upset, I always sit and think about it over my favorite, Jasmine tea! Zuko, where are you doing?" "I'm going out alone, don't try and stop me uncle!"

Wouldn't Noatak be one of the most powerful waterbenders to live? Zaheer certainly one of the most powerful airbenders, and theres Toph! Definitely the greatest Earthbender. Though I admit firebending has felt weak, but damn has Earthbending become totally badass compared to TLAB, I mean LAVABENDING, now thats some badass bending.

As for the characters all the ones you mentioned are either from TLA or villians. I think this is a running theme for Korra. In TLA you were watching a story about legends being born. You had Toph, Aang , Azula , Zuko and even Ketara to an extent. Even the earth king and Ozai were both incredible. In Korra most of the cast just feels like average joes with a few standouts. Maybe it's intentional in that now the world is more about inventors like Asami than benders like Mako who is a pathetic excuse for a fire bender. The earth benders are the ones that really feel powerful in Korra and even then it's a lot less raw than TLA since it focuses so much on smaller scale metal bending. Hell lava bending was badass and the metal bending tricks are dam cool but it just all feels toned down.

The bending in TLA felt raw and primal compared to the Korra bending which feels a lot smaller and "refined". Sure you can do a lot of neat tricks now but it's lost that ferocity it had in TLA. I can't agree more with you. everything was tuned down with the exeception of metal bending but that was to refined to give that "raw' power feeling to the show.

Yea, we had this discussion a few times in this thread. I agree with you, but at the same time i think it fits the universe as well as the story-style. During TLA, the world was at war. All of TLA is about this war and how it affected people. Bending was needed to survive. After Aang ended the war and found RC, they had a long time of peace and bending was used mainly to do a job, like the factory lightning benders, or as a sport. Largescale bending is probably prohibited in RC too and probending also plays a part in the degradation of power. And from the narrative perspective, LoK is not about war, its about the intricacies of politics, so the precise smallescale bending fits the theme better. So i dont mind it.

It fits RC nicely, but wished there was more large scale bending outside of the site, I think they kinda missed their chance there. but maby it would ruin the feel.
