Wow, they sure squeezed a lot into one episode. Pretty cool though.

Damn, they aren't exactly being subtle about Kuvira going on a power trip and basically becoming Darth Vader. I still wonder what her real motives are, we hardly know anything about her, and what happened in the 3 year gap. Guess we'll see!

After that final scene, it definitely makes more sense than ever that Toph will play a major role this season. Who better to help Korra gain back confidence than The Blind Bandit??

I really like what they did with the hair of the three airbending children.

And yet she had a pretty strong supporter base. Looking at the alternatives, I can see why.

Also, I would like to point out one of the best parts of Korra, every single female character on it is bad ass without the show making a big deal out of it. Even 14 year old girls are rockstars and ass kickers without any thought. Its a totally under rated part of the show.

Oh totally, but it's very clearly gone to her head, to the point where I'm thinking she tries to take the throne for herself. Strong, determined/focused military leader who can get things done vs spoiled brat royalty. Bit cliche, but could be done well.

Definitely agree. Avatar has always had those types of female characters, too.

I think that's what the supporters are advocating. They did mention that Kuvira was clearing Ba Sing Se, so it's not that she just hadn't gotten there.

That was quite an interesting episode.

Kuvira clearly is the villain, you can feel it right away. Her behaviour and her general mannerism just reaks of it.

+ Show Spoiler +
It seems to me she's on her way to building the new "Fire Nation", but with metalbending. You guys notice that she was using exclusively metalbending against the bandits? Her intent clearly doesn't lie with helping people, but building a sort of empire, or "maintaining order". She only helps under certain circumstances, strongarming people into pledging their loyalty to her.

Her character seems a bit off to me though. She just comes out as this total badass who's conquering (or "uniting") all over the place. I'm hoping they give her good character development and provide flashbacks to show us just how she got to where she is. A crucial mistake in TLA was the underdevelopment of Ozai, if you ask me. I hope they don't repeat that, even if they don't have nearly as many episodes for Kuvira.

Speaking of flashbacks, I'm hoping we get a lot of them. I really want to know what happened during the time gap. So far, we're getting pretty strong hints that we will, which is good.

Not much going on in Republic City though... Prince Wu is yet another douche, I personally feel like it's getting a bit old. Why must all monarchs in Avatar be assholes? I don't see them repeating that pattern again, what with Earth King Kuei being a total doormat, so I'm guessing he'll develop into a more caring and interesting character. At least, I deeply hope so. It would honestly bug me if he were just another royal airhead.

Finally, Korra... Very little screen time in the episode, but man that was interesting. She's off somewhere in the Earth Kingdom, apparently in a much more gruesome version of Toph's Earth Rumble VI? She also seems to struggle with her bending. I get the feeling she's rather weak at the moment, and will improve over time.

All in all, it was a great episode. They got me curious, and I too wish we would get two episodes per week. T_T

Was thinking exact same thing. Random bandits all of a sudden get a plane and are able to pilot it/fight an airbender in the friggen air? Lol

I like where this season is going. Kuvira is a bamf. I hope after she unites the earth kingdom she'll lay siege on republic city and the other free states to take back the entire continent. Since this is the last season, maybe they'll actually destroy republic city since it's basically the main setting of LoK. Wouldn't that be neat?

I really hope this season won't suffer from the length, they can do alot of explaining on the 3years (I assume that the fallout with Opal&her brother is about her brother choosing Kuvira when Kuvira took over[???]). It's looking good now tho, almost thought we'd have an episode of Korra without Korra in it but she got in there!

Pft, not just little girls. Old guys pushing into their 100's, girls with no arms, guys in wheelchairs...

Let's face it, if you're not badass in the Avatar world, you're doing something seriously wrong.

So suddenly episode one appears. It's so typical of the Korra series, episodes are just randomly dumped online with so little advertising or hype building.

As I understand it their goal was simply to end the avatar cycle. Once they all got bending they started to dream bigger and saw a "free" world.

I don't think so. Why end the Avatar cycle? The Avatar was pretty popular with just about everyone.

I don't think they were so much concerned with the "popular" opinion as they were with implementing their vision of balance to the world. Remember that Zaheer thought Wan separating Vaatu and Raava was foolish; he would much rather humanity remain in its primordial state as Lion Turtle bums than as the predominant species on Earth. In his skewed vision, the truest freedom would be to become spiritually enlightened as he did and be emotionally detached from earthly affiliations to nationality, etc. In that sense the Avatar is arguably the greatest threat to his vision, as the Avatar is probably the world's greatest peacekeeping and nation-protecting agent.

With regards to Zuko and Tonraq, you could make an argument that 1)Zuko was not directly a world leader at that point, only a former Fire Lord; 2)Zaheer didn't realize that Tonraq was the current Southern Water Tribe leader at that point due to 13 years of missing information. In any case it seems their goal was to kidnap Korra first from the very beginning; they don't really start targeting world leaders until they start using them as leverage to get Korra to turn herself over. They probably figured that once Korra was gone, the ensuing chaos would make it much easier to coordinate an assault against the world leaders simultaneously.

If a group wanted to kill world leaders, I'd imagine one of the first things they'd do is to figure out who the world leaders were.

That said my point still stands. Killing the Avatar was never the group's only goal.

Popular and had a lot of haters as well as people who loved the avatar of course.

But Ending the cycle was so that the avatar could never interfere again. The world remained peaceful through pretty much every avatar as any aggressive move (like sozin during roku's time) the avatar just shuts them down.

Without the avatar that would no longer happen and their version of "chaos" could ensure as they would also be able to kill off all the leaders without having to worry about their biggest threat (the avatar). Made complete sense.

But why make it their only goal? If their original plan was to kill the Avatar and then sit by idly, then the red lotus wouldn't change the world in their vision. It accomplishes nothing.

Who said it was their only goal? That was their first main goal. Did you watch all of season 3 or just forget? They were originally going to assassinate the president, but decided they would do it later to go and get korra out of the way (no one knew where the red lotus members were at the time).

And again as previously stated the Avatar is the biggest threat to them killing off all the world leaders (which is their goal after korra).
