Lol Also this + Show Spoiler +From /r/TheLastAirbender Remember when she "gave them the chance to reform their lives?"She made them part of her military. But I can see an explanation for the bandits having a plane, don't forget that after the queen died a bunch of people were stealing air ships so why not planes? At any rate, Kuvira is definitely the villain. Her goons wore masks, and helmets that looked exactly like German helmets from WW2. They were almost identical to these guys from Jin-Roh:
Oh she's definitely the villain. I am just hoping she isn't hiring the bandits .

Their hands wouldn't be cut off, they would be dead.

I can see Kuvira as the bad guy, but I could see her just being a party that doesn't totally agree with the avatar and needs to be brought in line too. The show sure does set her up to be an overbearing dictator, but she could be a more nuanced character. Depends on how the show goes
+ Show Spoiler +Also, I like how the show is going to handle Korra’s healing through flashbacks. It’s a great move for the character to be out in the world, on her own, trying to heal and recover. I also like that she just goes straight to fighting for money and getting her ass kicks to improve. Because if we have learned anything from martial arts movies over the years, getting beat up over and over will increase your fighting ability.

I think it wasn't clear if that was a flashback or the present?

I mean that they will deal with her healing and recovering in a flash back(the whole being in a wheel chair and then getting better over the three years), but right now she is on the road to ass kicking. I prefer stories that don't feel the need to explain everything to me bit by bit and just trust I can fill in the blanks. I like stories that move.

Oh, sorry then. I also thought it was present but when I saw your post I thought you were saying it was a flashback. And when I thought about it, it could have also been in the past (not by much though).

That was in the present.
Next episode is all about korra during the 3 years after her fight with zaheer.
Called korra alone (reference to zuko alone :D)

I want to believe that shes a good character up until the moment she meets the prince shes suppose to hand over the territories to. But its most likely that the show will have her evil from the start to avoid complexity.
She probably also resents the avatar for not stopping the anarchy that was the collapse of the earth kingdom.

Interesting page for everyone here: http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Writing_in_the_World_of_Avatar
So apparently Kuvira takes the title of "interim president" in this situation. I wonder if maybe she plans to allow Wu to take power, but to simply use him as a figurehead while having the true power?

Thought about that as well. But I already have a show on hold waiting to finish in december. Would be quite a horror by then.^^

The Earth Kingdom is probably the scariest of the 4 considering their size and therefore population. Making them the bad guys should pose a larger challenge than the fire nation.

TLA Book 2 Episode 7. It's the episode with the flashback in zuko's childhood and the one where zuko tries something good and everyone is happy until they find out he is a firebender and hate him because of that...

"Zuko alone" was amazing, hopefully this one can live up to it that's what I'm hoping too which one was "Zuko alone" again? After Zuko and Iroh become fugitives from the Fire Nation, taking different names and cutting their hair, Zuko later decides to part ways with his uncle, stealing an ostrich horse and riding through desolate Earth Kingdom territory. Hungry, thirsty, and poor, he comes upon a ramshackle, wild-west sort of Earth Kingdom town. The Earth Kingdom soldiers there act like thugs, taking whatever they want from the townsfolk. A boy and his family take Zuko in, but as Zuko goes to leave town the next day, he finds that the boy is in trouble with the soldiers. Zuko fights the soldiers, but his twin broadsword techniques have difficulty beating back the soldier captain's double warhammers. Ultimately, Zuko reveals his firebending along with a proud declaration of his identity.
He also has many flashbacks as he's trying to sort out who he is. Good episode, go watch it again.
