Also, so little water tribe action this episode. Kinda thinking that when they all go back to the south, it will be war-torn/conquered already by the north. Lot of stuff for everyone to do, so plenty of time for stuff to go down there.
He's playing both sides of the war remember his line "if you cant make money off or war you're out of the business" or something like that. Like I won't call it a bad pull or extremely predictable that he's the villain but there were A LOT of things wrong with him that they tried to cover up by just labeling him as the "eccentric comic relief". FIRST off he starts supporting the rebellion SPURRING ON WAR when Korra was trying to make peace and just being a complete dick overall. (big what the fucksies) SECOND Now he's being a businessman sure but he's literally supporting propaganda and I'm pretty sure the writers know not to make propaganda a good thing the good guys do since it has a pretty shitty track record as doing good things go. THIRD I think he was the one who suggested that Korra go BEHIND the fucking presidents back to command his army to go to war? Kinda evil maybe? I'd have to rewatch to confirm if that was just Korra's bad idea. FOURTH and this is very minor, he's a super-huge dick to Julie and that is going to have some kind of tie-in or he is going to get backstabbed by her, they spent the first few episodes making her seem like the ever loyal secretary but now they're starting to develop her and I'm betting she's going to have some hand in getting back at him. Either that or SHE is the mastermind behind it but that's getting too crazy. I think as another twist it'd be pushing it but also it'd be pretty awesome since Verrick doesn't make a very appealing villain to me as of now but that grin on his face at the end of the episode is an improvement.
Finally yes everyones saying this but Korra was like the most annoying character out of her own show and she gets 2 minutes of air time and they give her amnesia it's like they want to make this a show about Mako the rookie cop or something because everytime she gets on it's pretty frustrating watching how she's acting(Given she is usually left out of the loop and easily manipulated so she's not all to blame but that's her shtick now it seems). I'm really going to have a heard time actually enjoying the rest of the Korra-specific antics after this knowing that the foundaiton is one of the biggest known examples of jumping the shark in film/movie/tv industry shits right next to time-travel man.

Wasn't this book supposed to be focused on the spirits? Can we get that going? After last episode's ending I though that we would finally get more into that story. And to top it off Korra has amnesia? Really? Amnesia? We'll see how that goes, but it's usually a lazy way of developing a character. ...something pretty major happened in the spirit world, obviously. I'm more interested now, actually. Yes, obviously something happened. Something has been happening this whole time. The question is what. That is what I want to know. That is the bigger thing. What is happening with the spirits/the spirit world? Maybe it's, because I wasn't surprised, but spending a whole episode on exposing Verrick (I guess that's how you spell it?) seems too much.

Reasonably sure he's playing both sides of the fence, possibly even being the real force behind the war, so he can make massive $$$. Either way, he's clearly not the eccentric goofball he initially appeared to be.

There seems to be three forces active right now. The Southern tribe, the Northern tribe, and Varric's hand trying to encourage the whole thing.

Verric said it himself, if you can't make money during a war, you can't make money. He clearly wants war proliferation and control of Asami's empire, which benefits from wars.

I must have missed that, but I assumed he stole the tanks from himself instead of just destroying them, then he still gets to sell them to the south without paying Asami a penny. That escalates the war and makes her so broke he can pick up her company for nothing.
Also, on a side note, if the triad had backstabbed korra that way I'm pretty sure she woulda burnt their headquarters down, lol. Clever Detective Mako probably should have noticed something was wrong when he told them he basically wasn't connected with her anymore, and instead if getting pissed because now he can't pay them by restoring bending they're like harharhar.

The ship never sank. It was just stolen, so it's very well possible Varrick has all the equipment that was stored on it.

before this ep i thought verrick was just an idiot lucky good guy, and that later on he would realise that julie has always been there for him and he'd fall in love (like his company would crash and he would have nothing) and become more mature and idk lol

Fairly obvious I thought. Varrick wants war to happen so he can sell supplies so he riles up the southerners, fakes a bombing of the southern water tribe cultural center, and makes propoganda movies. Future Industries basically makes military equipment, but if Asami sells it the profits don't go to him. He knows Future Industries is about to die, he wants it. He makes friends with Asami, basically knows when/where everything is, and knows about Mako+Asami's sting operation. Steal everything, force Asami to give ownership of Future Industries. Now when the war happens he's got a bunch of stolen military equipment + additional manufacturing capacity to make more stuff and thus more $$$.

That was the one for the sting operations, Varrick stole all the equipment in the previous ships.

I thought people outside of the US couldn't watch it on Nick? I told some people to watch it on Nick and they said they couldn't watch in Canada. You claim to be from China and can watch it?

I don't mind the amnesia plot. It's been done and redone, but then again, what hasn't?
The delivery of the lines still feels more painful to me, that's what bugs me the most. I pretty much saw the Varrick thing coming though, I had a feeling he was out for profit the entire time. Pretty much when he started the propaganda stuff with Bolin. That was a redish light.
I'm curious to see what happens in the next episode. Should be quite interesting. Korra is with the Fire Sages, so I assume they will help her in some way. I do hope they don't pull an "Aang/Roku comes to visit Korra", that would be a little repetitive.

well i reckon the way the fire sages are gonna help her is gonna be along the lines of "meditate to find out what happens", aang/roku shows up, tells her to grow up and stop having perma period, teaches her how to properly use avatar state, korra returns just in time to save everyone. Or something along those lines. I like the framing that Varrick has been doing, it wasn't very expected to most i'd think, as soon as Bolin mentioned the "explosions-scene" i realised he was doing the piracy, but i wonder if he's in it for personal gains or because he's in league with the northern tribe since they arrived/long before that. Hope he's just a 3rd player on the scene that wants to make profit, would make it much more hectic.

Has Avatar TLA ever used amnesia?
