Lin, I agree with, she's really a former shell of herself in this episode =/. I can see Tenzin being an "evil" lemur trainer though. I actually like it because it shows that he had a little bit more of a playful side as a child. Varrick thing was lame as well. As for Katara, I think it's just her old age. Unalaq's still a master water bender and probably knows very well how to fight.

Why couldnt the avatar state control the spirit, i mean sure it look pretty damn powerful but the avatar state is meant to be all of the avatars knowledge combined surely one of the many avatars have perfect the ability to calm spirits right?
I mean aang's avatar state crushed the firelord on the day of the comet, shouldnt korras one been even more powerful? (cause its going to have aang's experiences as well)

I'm of the opinion that Korra still doesn't have access to the full Avatar state. She uses it so often and it never really does anything! With Aang it was the ultimate mega power, here it's kinda useless.

Alright, truthfully, I was about ready to give up on the show if this episode let me down, but I think it was a lot better than the previous ones. Korra's behaviour is absolutely outrageous (that desk kick! holy shit, who acts like that? Can we please not have constantly yelling at everyone? it's ok that she's usually angry, she has every reason to be, but she needs to have some lighthearted moments because she can only carry the show as a ball of rage for so long), but aside from that there's a lot of good stuff going on here. I think republic city is a much more interesting setting than the southern tribe, bolin was absolutely hilarious, mako had his most sympathetic moment yet that I think went a long way toward making him a good character, and the tenzin family stuff didn't seem pointless this episode like in the last few.

I think the big thing this season needs to step it up to book 1 is a really scary villain like amon or koh.

EDIT: to be clear on my feelings: up until this episode I think book 2 has been straight up bad. However the developments here are very promising and I'm no longer on the verge of abandoning hope like I was last week.

So it really seems like the entire damn police force aside from Mako are completely incompetent which is kind of frustrating as hell.

So at this point it seems kind of apparent that Koh the face stealer is probably involved this season. Unalaq just came out of the spirit world which probably means he was taking orders from him (or even IS him or will eventually steal his face to be him). Another thing is his 2 kids have pretty much no emotions safe for the whole Bolin breakup thing....being the on true defense against the face stealer =p

The amnesia plot is cliched as hell but maybe it will mean Korra acts like a rational/nice human being for a while?

And he should be, that means he has to wait for a new avatar to be found, get ahold of them, and train them to the point where they can open the northern portal. A feat which, I assume, requires the avatar state.
