I think overall my consistent favourite would be Fluttershy, but there's no way I could rank the rest because they shuffle around on any given day.

I mean, for the Element of Honesty, Rainbow Dash seems to be a lot better at that than she is. Applejack is a serious and dependable pony and has alot more thought put into what she says rather than just blurting out the obvious truth that might hurt somepony. Rainbow dash on the other hoof does not care much for what she blurts out and seems to waver between wonderbolts, helping the other pegasi at managing the town`s weather and trying to appeal for others to see her awesomeness. Fluttershy takes care of animals sure, but other than cuteness and a perchant for being quiet and submissive the GIRL has NOTHING on Rarity that actually puts effort in something Fluttershy most obviously takes for granted on top of taking care of Sweetie Bell, the cutiemark crusaders and being a fashonista. To call Applejack shallow or one dimensional is the greatest understatement of ponykind and if anything it is just the ponies making the show failing to convey just how great she is. at any rate what i wanted to say is that: Pinkie pie, Rainbowdash and Twillight based episodes tend to deal with the pursuit of their own happieness while Applejack and Rarity deals with the more complex stuff like sacrifice, family and depending on how seasons go it is my belief that somepony might agree and make Rarity their best pony. ![]()

However in the last two episodes Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie show their alter ego. Pinkie's character became more attractive to me, unfortunately I still had in mind her kind of annoying personality and lacks in communication. But still it is she who has funnier moment of the show (not all of them though). On the other hand Fluttershy's other self from (the last episode) seemed so unlike and not fitting to her to this level, that I ignore this incident and assume writers' slip (yeah I know it was planned, but still it is too simple going from one extreme to another, also, as I just wrote, unlikely). Besides that, yes, she is cute. In insecureness, cheering, sympathy for creatures. But Applebloom looks even cuter. Sorry. My favorite character is Applejack for couple of reasons: — she only didn't have a selfish reason why go to the gala — she (and Pinkie) is an “ordinary” pony, no magic, no wings, when she works she works hard, moreover she mastered tail-control on her own (and lasso-control with tail which is super hard) — doesn't fear when it comes to getting her hooves dirty — knows about her inabilities to do some stuff, but is not envious Bonus points for: — baking (yummy) + doing it with only hooves and teeth, which is awesome (I know, Pinkie is in the same situation) — her look — hat, mane, freckles (subjective opinion) The southern accent is rather neutral for me, but it is for sure a nice differentiator. Other ponies: — Twilight Sparkle is kind, modest, but still seems not so special. Yeah, she has and develops superpowers, that's cool. I'm sure, that's are useful in life. Spider-man at least must keep his secret, Twilight doesn't have that problems. A little bit too simple. However she has nice fringe. — Rarity is generous (doing things that she anyways would do with pleasure) and she is able to manipulate dumber persons. As for a ladylike not bad, but again, as for a ladylike. — Rainbow Dash was born awesome. She's got a rainbow mane, and can fly. Her purpose in life is flying faster and doing interesting tricks. Trouble-free life. Boring. That is only my humble, subjective opinion. Probably many of you will not agree with it and that is good. I will gladly read some of yours opinions and view on this subject. _______ P.S. Surprisingly these pony subjects are quite comprehensive. I'm impressed.

Sure, she was expecting a little ego pet from Celestia (recognition for her work), but I'm not so sure that qualifies as selfish.Seriously, though, guys, I've seen other MLP communities break down into "my pony is better than yours". It's ugly and makes me sad -- they're all so great, no need to fight about it! So keep it cordial, and don't dis people for their choice. On some pony-related podcast somewhere -- I don't remember the name -- one of the hosts was negative about anything if it didn't have to do with Rainbow Dash. How lame is that! I just started episode 12 - just started! Not even at the intro music yet - and I remembered something I wanted to comment on: there is a moral present in episode 11, and perhaps 12 as well, that I completely disagree with. + Show Spoiler [Everyone has a special skill] + Episode 11 is about Twilight looking around trying to find somewhere to help with the Winter Wrap-up. She offers to help Rarity, but her nest making skills are deficient. She offers to help Pinkie, but she doesn't know how to skate. She tries to help AJ, but she doesn't have the strength to do so. She states that there must be something she can do, and eventually she finds it: Twilight's organizational skills turns out to be the skill most needed by the town's frantic, arguing ponies. The moral that Twilight describes to Celestia at the end of the show, and thus explicates to anybody watching who hadn't figured it out: "...we all have hidden talents, and if we're patient, and diligent, we're sure to find them..." Which is, frankly speaking, complete bullshit. Psych, I joke, I kid, I kid. If I offend i'm sorry, please please forgive! Actually, I agree with the moral (especially the "patient and diligent" part). I just disagree with the way they framed it, with the context and perspective given to it - something subtle indeed, but hang with me here. The key phrase that bugs me the wrong way about this is "we're sure to find them." You don't FIND skills, you go out and HUNT for them, you acquire the knowledge and discipline to do what is necessary to become good at something. Nobody is BORN with the organizational skills required to rally an entire town's resources to best expedite a large scale project; Twilight had to have sharpened that skill over the duration of her own life. If she had wanted to help Rarity, she could have. Rarity would have to take time out of her own schedule to teach Twilight, and maybe it would have been better to tell Twilight to wait until next year before nest building - but there's nothing stopping Twilight from being the best nest maker there can be. The same goes for Pinkie and skating. The same almost goes for AJ and snow shoveling, which requires a strength that would take far more than one day to develop. Which brings me to another point... Not everybody can be good at everything. We don't have equal opportunities in life: someone born deaf will not grow up to be a musician. Somebody with certain genetic problems might not get to be the next Olympic medalist, and most people won't get to be the next Olympic medalist either, because if you're thirty years old trying to train against people who have been training since they were eight years old... you've already missed your shot. But then here comes episode 12, with "A cutie mark appears on a pony's flank when he or she finds that certain something that makes them different from every other pony. Discovering what makes you unique..." Okay, there's ton of problems with this. Obviously, most people are NOT unique. The Albert Einstein's in the world are unique, but they're unique because they're also one-in-a-million. Then again, it's not the most encouraging message in the world to tell kids "Odds are, you're not special compared to most people, and you're definitely ain't one-in-a-million." However, telling kids that there is something special out there that is perfect for them will set them up for disappointment if they don't ever find it. It's kinda like college freshmen choosing majors. I was incredibly lucky to have "found" a major I love, but I know not everybody is that lucky. Eventually, though, every freshman will have to "choose" one major or another. So I would be grateful if MLP:FiM would employ this slightly different verb. And for all I know, the rest of episode 12 might reveal this subtlety I described. I'll have to see. + Show Spoiler [One last thing] + I don't want to give the impression that episode 11 was bad... I enjoyed it! Also, the musical number at the start, which I had already heard from it being linked in this thread's OP... was way better the second listen around. I don't know if this counts as a fantasy staple specifically, but there is definitely a tradition in this culture of the "winter wonderland," and the Winter Wrap-up song was a great addition to that tradition. Edit: hot damn. I just pressed play, and I heard the teacher say "and no amount of hoping, wishing, or begging will make a cutie mark appear before its time" Really? The cutie mark is about whatever one thing you most enjoy/identify with/are good at doing/whatever, and the core component behind that is how we feel about that one thing. As in, if I'm hoping, wishing, and begging to have a poker cutie mark, then poker would BE my cutie mark because otherwise I wouldn't be hoping, wishing, and begging for it. Surprisingly, I did not think to mention that cutie marks should have the ability to CHANGE over time. Maybe the first twenty years of my life were dominated by playing poker, but then Stacraft: Broodwar was released and I changed mental gears. My cutie mark should change as well. Urrgghhh... I'm never going to finish this episode. Edit2: Okay it's way obvious what she meant about the hoping/wishing/begging, and I just didn't understand the context. Which made the last couple of paragraphs useless. Which is why I should wait to finish the episode before writing about it. Gargh. + Show Spoiler [curious] + Anyone catch my Em reference?

Oh boy, couldn't agree more. + Show Spoiler [Episode 11] + I loved the show because of the musical, and because AJ was so mad at twilight for breaking the rules(TEACH THE KIDS!). What sucked tho is how it gives the certainty that you WILL find something you're good at. Sure, this is the kind of moral you expect on any kids show, but it still is something I dislike. For the purpose of the show, however, it's a great moral. For the real world? nah. + Show Spoiler [Episode 12] + This one has a much better moral: you can be whatever-the-fuck you want, as explained by Day9 a lot. Or at least you have the potential for that. Also, bullying sucks.
