Was pretty good story telling wise, i just get the feeling we missed the chance to see an incredible amount of interesting stuff, both past and future, from one of the most baller characters in the world.
O M G, he did it again, he killed a cool character!

Expected to win? It made no sense from a story perspective for him to win. Dorne needed more motive to join the GoT and Tyrion could not stay in KL because 99.9999999% thought he killed Joff, Cersei would have had him killed some other way
As soon as Tyrion wanted a trial by combat, I knew he wouldn't win. Even if he won, Cersei would have eliminated him in anyway because she would have suspected it was Tyrion regardless of what the gods determined. Oberyn was a fairly interesting character, but was he necessary? Doubt it.

Of course he was necessary. There needed to be something to help rekindle Dornish hate for the Andal mid/south westerosi and specifically house Lannister. So many years of relative peace once they became the seventh kingdom, and then with Tywin's death imminent GRRM needed to keep the hate well fed for there to be a reason for them to be eager for war.

I mean necessary to kept alive. I understand how he was somewhat the catalyst behind the Dornish conspiracy and all.

I agree dude. He was probably one of my favorite characters and he seemed to really hold the potential to fuck shit up. I felt like it would have been really fun to learn more about his history.
Oddly enough... though I loved the Red Viper, I hate the Sand Snakes

most people stop reading or throw the book at the wall after Ned s death or Robbs, the books never actually made me so angry like when the fucking mountain loses the duel AND STILL KILLS MY NEW FOUND BAMF, damn
Still haven't read the Red Redding. When I "felt" it coming I just skipped to the next chapter. I was there in line waiting with my hands out for ADWD. Best series I have ever read in my life, and I have read a god damn huge amount of literature.
I don't think I'll ever be able to read that Red Redding chapter though. I'm not strong enough.

Yeah, that's what frustrated me most. When I was first reading it, I was so excited that the fight was going in his favor. And then he had to just throw it away...

You have to do it man! Its a really good chapter, and its very interesting to watch the build up to it, like all the small things the freys are doing that hint at it coming

Why are you calling it the Red Redding? Is this some sort of pun I'm missing?

Also read the damn chapter man, croikey...
I mostly assumed it was for the massive bloodshed as the Stark's and their supporters are massacred, hence the red. Perhaps there is something deeper than that, but that's made sense to me

I am so glad we have this awesome german speaker for the audio books. ( http://www.audible.de/pd/B00857RHQU - click on "Hörprobe" below the cover pic for a sample)
This Dotrice guy sounds sooo bad compared to him. I remember him from some downloaded sample when i wanted to re-read ADwD and only the english version was available. I didnt last one chapter with him speaking.
The worst part of Dotrice is if you like him he's definitely not going to live to read the rest of the series, and probably not even the next book. If GRRM lives to write them that is.

are you kidding me? I loved Dotrice so much. Maybe not right away, but after a few chapters i couldnt bare anyone else reading it, listened to AFFC first in another narrator's voice, missed him so much
The german speaker is not in the least comparable to Dotrice! He is good but unfortunatly two leagues behind Dotrice's.
Yes, I know it is a matter of taste but listen to the voices, to the acting, to the pauses and the rhythm and you can not deny that Dotrice is the far better reader for AGoT.
