Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

Does this show just not follow the traditional model for zombies? Depends on what your "traditional model" is. If your talking about the pre cinema model, then yea sure its all boring brains and being a voodoo creation. However, most people, at least those old enough, will hold the Romero Era as the traditional zombie standing point. Part of the Romero archetype is that zombies will often echo their past life, this serves an important purpose. You see you can't really ever successfully fully humanize a zombie because it'll detract the audience from the gratuitous violence. However, as complete monsters you are ultimately left with boring scenes of killing wave after wave of biting things. Having them echo, like say a child picking a doll, or the guy's wife in the first season always coming back to where her husband is staying adds a subtle layer of tragedy from all of this, with out the audience really having to face a conscious level of feeling bad about just mowing down hordes of these people. This show has always followed the Romero archetype heavily. While it does adopt the more modern approach of having the origin being a virus made made or otherwise, they hold on to the notion of turning after death despite no bites or scratches. Which is something very rare in today's world of zombies. Besides the hints of zombie echoing life, we are also treated to a return of purely slow moving zombie horde that can be both avoided and picked apart. Even from a directing standpoint the violence scenes scream of Romero styled kills with the same heavy prosthetic use that made his original films so memorable. So yes, I would consider nearly of TWD's zombie interactions to pretty heavily follow the traditional zombie model.
Eh, I've watched plenty of zombie movies before and this is the first time I've reacted in this way to something. I don't recall ever seeing a serious zombie movie that ever had zombies being emotional/doing things from their past lives. Maybe I'm forgetting something though :/.

there is viagra he could probably take and he isn't that old lol. Surprised he didn't follow it through as he did in the comics but with another girl, I guess a lot of people would be upset or something

Really just a more tasteful way of doing it. On comic media theres a limited amount of images going to the viewer, and in many times scenes can be left to reader to fill in between panels, as well as a need to do more shocking things to get the reader thinking.
On tv you have a constant stream of information both visual and through audio and scenes like that can become just too visceral. Coupling that with the wider audience and you start to have more limits. I think if they wanted her to get raped they'd have to do an implied rape scene with the gov walking over loosening his belt then moving on to a different scene. In this case I think we were actually given something more emotion wrenching because of how far they could take it because there wasn't an actual rape.
I was pretty emotionally wrenched that whole scene. I thought it was one of their best interpretations from the comics so far.

Caught up on the last 3 episodes, I was so far behind! So glad Carol is still alive, when Daryl was hanging outside the room where she was locked up in, I was already holding back the tears. I really hope they expand on that relationship.
Rick going semi-insane and hallucinating the phone call was pretty weird, but I guess it was necessary to get over his crazy phase he had.
Fighting scenes with Merle and his friends and Michonne looked so poor lol. The convenient walkers interrupting the fight so they can once again be separated with both alive...the open area clearings in broad daylight and little to no visibility of a black woman about to slash you up really stretched it. I like Michonne though as she is a badass, and somewhat Merle as a necessary character to keep the story moving along. Daryl better choose the group before Merle in this finale. And I think its pretty obvious the black prisoner is going to be the dead one, as the other characters still have a lot more development in them. If I am wrong, I will be so pissed seeing any of the main group members dying. Andrea dying wouldn't really phase me that much either

I wouldn't even care if he was the "smart guy who knows more than the town but has to follow the orders of the powerful violent people", because even though that is generic it's fine. But instead he is just hurr durring around with "the patient retains part of his personality!"
he's not emotionally invested in something (like loss of family or that was his family going to die), he's not desperate/lost all hope overall, he's not stupid, so what the fuck is he doing. And what the fuck does he contribute to the show. It seems that he wants to find a "cure," although there are none, I guess he's hoping for some sort of consciousness in the walkers.
It's not just about the cure, but specifically why the Governor is so invested in his research, Penny.
He keeps penny around, he combs her hair, he tries to talk to her and calm her down like a rational being, but ultimately he's gotta learn that Penny is gone, and what's left of Penny isn't her, but he can't let go, and that's why he keeps funding and supporting Milton's research, to find ANY proof that some bit of Penny is still there so he has something to cling onto.

Great season so far (especially in contrast to the first half of season 2). Really looking forward to next week.
This ep had so many good scenes. Glenn and the zombie in the room was great--really shows how much his character has evolved.
|
When Glen was fighting with the walker and got him down on the floor, he should have t-bagged/done squats over it with the chair legs. That would have been something.
I also don't like that they left that creepy prisoner alone at the prison with the rest of em. Inb4 rape and murder. =(

oh god if any of my fav character dies, I will lose so much interest in following the series lol
|
I dont think the writers have the balls to kill Rick, Daryl or Glen. They are fan favorites and people would get really pissed off if they killed one of them.
|
I liked the fight glen had with the zomb,, a nice breakaway from the silly ¨martial arts¨ stuff Merle and co have been doing..
Merle doing spin kicks and stuff just looks soooo wrong.
|
So Glen is a fucking badass. I actually have no idea who I like the most anymore, DARYL OR GLEN? They're both so damn awesome. I don't even want to imagine what went through Glen's head when they dragged his half naked, crying girlfriend into the room ._.

YES it does.. MUCH better .. I saw the first season because it was recommended to me by my brother, our sister and several friends .. I can't thank them enough
but season 2 was kind of, well, bad. anyway season 3 so far is kick ass besides a few mistakes here and there .. but all in all it comes together nicely.

If glen dies I'm afraid I'll have to stop watching this series.. a shame to, because it's really good
and as for the last episode.. it was decent, another one that kept me wanting more, but apparently the next episode is the season finale? it makes me worried.. will any key characters die? will glen die? (seriously, i'll stop watching this show) do they take over the town?
so many questions, so little time ..anyway, I hope you're all enjoying this show as much as i am, cheers

If they go too far with this though, especially to the extent you mention here they are generally then classified as a vampire. Depending of course on the lore, but both vampires and zombies are undead, both want to eat humans (blood/brains), the only real difference is that one is just highly functioning.

This episode had many great moments. Glenn fighting against that walker was awesome, made me tense in a good way. The roar after his victory made it even better :D Also I think it's not that stupid for Michonne to trust Rick's group more easily. She saw the close moment Rick and the group had when they saw that Carol was alive. That probably convinced her by some degree.
I also was so scared that the Governor would rape Maggie, I think I would have broken down a bit. I literally yelled at the screen: ''If you touch her, I'll fucking kill you.'' Or something like that at least. I think the writers made the right decision though. I currently hate Andrea, but I think she would act differently, if she knew what was going on, so I can't blame her too much. The attack into Woodbury in the next episode will be a nailbiter, does anyone of the main characters die? What about the confrontation between Merle an Daryl, or the supposed execution of Glenn and Maggie. Can't wait to find out!

If the Governor didn't really rape Maggie, then what was the point of asking her to undress? It didn't really make any sense to me.

Humiliation? Fear of the possibility? Mess her up psychologically? Or maybe he just couldn't follow through with his intentions. Or perhaps her resignation to whatever would happen, but refusal to divulge any information made the result a foregone conclusion and therefore there was no point. Afterwards, he is definitely trying to mess with Glen's head when Maggie is brought in undressed.

Meh, i don't really like the direction the show is taking.Even though the episode was still great, something is off for me. Don't know how to explain it. Entertaining nevertheless.
I hope Daryl won't die, easily the best character in the show.
