Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

Shooting Otis is easily justifiable. He's in a situation where he has to save himself as well as a kid he cares about
Pointing his gun at Rick it totally understandable. He basically lost his ability to be the leader, his girl, and the kid who he was getting really close to all because of Rick. So he thought about making the situation better for himself, and DECIDED against it.
This situation right here tells us he's not all about survival, and himself. He still has a moral center. His decision to not go through with it shows he's capable of feeling for another persons situation (Lori and Carl if they lose their husband/dad again)
The only thing that is absolutely obvious about Shane's character, is how much he cares about Carl, and Lori. And he's keeping his cool pretty damn well, considering he's all but lost Lori, and is slowly losing Carl.
Not to mention that Lori is a total fucking bitch to him. Really, considering how much he's done for her and Carl, she has no excuse to be this cruel to him. I think it's honestly just her method of coping with her guilt but even so, absolutely cruel.

hahaha there's many posters here that I don't want to be with in a zombie apocalypse especially the ones who say that Shane is justified in doing what he does.. (what I mean to say is that you guys would probably sacrifice my ass that's why.. see + Show Spoiler +Otis getting sac'd for his own ass

You're only going to be killed with me if it comes down to you or me. Or if you become dangerous. Most likely if you're dangerous we'll just outcast you though.

Alot of people seem quite confident of how they'd react in a crisis situation. But from what I've heard many people show traits that normally isn't showing and that they themselves wasn't aware about in a life death scenarios. My point is that unless you know from experience how you react in "do or die" emergencies then speculating about it in threads like these are just that... speculation.

So i rewatched the most recent episode, in the beginning after Rick shoots the 2 guys you can hear some more shots in the background and it zooms in on Rick pointing the gun at the fat dead one. Rick then looks at Glen and says "You were right", my theory is:
BOOK SPOILER + Show Spoiler + Glen knew they could 'turn' even if you were not bit, and that they just had to be killed by any means to 'turn'. You can also see how Rick kept pointing the gun at the fat one at end of the second last episode because Rick knew he might 'turn' because he didn't shoot him in the head. You can see he waited awhile since there was sunlight in the end of the second last episode and it was dark in the beginning most recent episode

Oh guys btw i have a question. At the end of the first season the scientist whispers something in ricks? (dunno his name) ear. Did we find out yet what he said?

No, at the time I suspected he told Rick Lori was pregnant but Rick seemed genuinely surprised when Lori told him.
The only hints towards what he said was in S2E1 when Rick tries to radio the black guy (name slips). He says 'We met a scientist... he said.... it doesn't matter' or something to that effect and it hasn't been mentioned since (to my awareness)

Where were they headed prior to that little girl getting lost in the start of Season 2?

My guess is "There is no cure/vaccine for death" or some other such statement letting him know that the world is thoroughly screwed

He readily told them that every other major center for disease research had given up, ran out of resources, been overran, etc. Whatever he said it is something else.

From AMCTV.com, the rest of the season:
The Walking Dead 18 Miles Out Rick and Shane are in conflict over the fate of an outsider; Andrea helps Hershel's daughter face a crucial decision.
The Walking Dead Judge, Jury, Executioner Rick sides with Shane causing Dale to worry that the group is losing its humanity; Carl's actions have unintended consequences.
The Walking Dead Better Angels Someone dangerous may be loose near the farm; Rick, Shane, Daryl and Glenn keep the group safe.
The Walking Dead Beside the Dying Fire Rick and Carl find the farm in jeopardy; the group is split up in the chaos; Rick's leadership is questioned.
|
I don't see why the group can't agree to be more democratic, giving everyone in the group equal say, take a vote on crucial decisions, and whatever the majority of the group wants, they do.
IMO, this would be the fairest way to run things. Anyone agree, disagree...
I agree that the 'Love Triangle' between Shane, Rick, and Lori is getting a little ridiculous. I wish they'd just sort that shit out like adults, not teenagers in high school.
Why can't the three of them sit down around the burning pile of Zombie flesh, sing campfire songs, then kiss, make up, and start worrying about the surviving the end of the world.
I guess that wouldn't make for good TV. Oh well. :/

so they will really drag this farm arc through the whole season -_- shame on you AMC

Survival isn't about making fair choices. It's about making the best decision under stress, without hesitation. They really don't even have the time or convenience to make decisions like that. Small groups don't work well democratically in general. There's a reason why most work and military institutions use a hierarchy of power, usually with a leader at the helm making decisions.

Fuck it; I've complained about the show so much and now reading the descriptions for the rest of the episodes.. It seems like it's gonna continue being shit...
"Rick and Shane are in conflict over the fate of an outsider; Andrea helps Hershel's daughter face a crucial decision.?
I predict useless back and forth dialogue between Rick and Shane and Andrea is gonna help Hershel's daughter realize that she's a lesbian.I'm not gonna watch the remaining episodes until they're all out and if you guys have given good reviews.
I'll check this thread in a few months. >=(
edit: Oh, and I'm guessing there might be like 1 or 2 zombies in the next episode for about 5 minutes.

+ Show Spoiler +Seems like they're gonna skip the rest of the Prison arc and end with its ending, IE the Others will come fuck everybody's day up and Lori will get shredded by a shotgun

Lol'd when I read this post!
I don't think they're gonna help her realize she's gay or anything, my honest guess is that she's turning into a mindless zombie and Andrea is basically going to spell the truth out to her in calm dialogue, that won't cause any panic, that'll go something like this:
Andrea: "You're fucked Beth! In another day or so, you're going to die, then come back as a mindless freak of nature that's only drive will be to rip up and devour the flesh of your loved ones." You want us to tie you to a tree like we did Jim in the beginning of season 2?"
Beth: "Oh God! Noooo!"
Maggie: "Andrea, get out of this house! You're not welcome her anymore!"
Andrea: "Fine! This farm's getting too boring for my new badass GI Jane self anyway! Peace!"

Imo she's going to be deciding whether to stay with Herschel or go with the group
