I own the DVD and they do not have the english subtitles (maybe cause I bought in Brasil) so you might have to get the .srt files online and watch the DVD on the PC Watched tropa de elite a couple weeks ago. They're so, so, SO good. Finally a sequel which btw doesn't just have more of what was in the first, but really tells and completes a story... <3
Anyone know of similiar good action movies (lesser known ones obviously).
And btw thanks SO much for the guy who posted talking about Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, never knew BBC had made a mini-series out of it although I'm a huge Le Carre fan!

Not sure if it is already in the thread but Silver Streak is a pretty funny yet quirky movie.

I watched this on the plane -- initially I was a little sceptical because I saw that it was a Bollywood film but I was pleasantly surprised. There was a satisfactory mixture of comedic scenes and solemnity with a driving plot of a serious premise that we could all at least partly relate to. For this reason, I myself found the film to be immersive and I came to sympathise with the plight of characters leading to an inspirational experience overall..I'm probably exaggerating a lot here cause it's been a while since I watched it on the plane (I don't actually remember too much of it, but my attitude toward the film remains quite vivid) but in my current memory it stands out in comparison to the 6 or 7 other films I saw.

i dont know where to post this so ill probably just post here
anybody can recommend me some disaster films? or with the same genre ive watched -the day after tomorrow -2012 -runaway -dante's peak -poseidon -titanic
anymore films like these?

lol dantes peak. I first saw that when I was like 10 and I still can't get over the dog leaping over lava scene.
Twister came out about the same time and it's people following disasters. Has about the same tone as Dante's Peak.
I can't believe the first picture in this thread is Cube. The very first time I smoked pot I saw that movie as well. It blew my fucking MIND.

Katyn
People should also watch Kanal and A Generation.

Great BBC mini-series. Wish there would be a remake.

My review of some of the movies mentioned here that I've seen:
• The Cube: Not very good, but I suppose not bad if you're into... whatever it is. • Un Prophet (A prophet): Very good, but not on my top movies list, worth watching I guess. Brutal prison movie that is also quite/very deep. • A Beautiful mind: Excellent movie but TOTALLY NOT underrated or hidden or anything of the sort. • Conan the barbarian B movie trash, and rather well known at that fact too — not hidden gem of any sort. • Final Fantasy 7: I don't know what to say... it just wasn't good. It was just like watching a bunch of cutscenes from FF7 without good story or such. I can see a fan liking it, but not anyone else. • Stardust: Great movie, and it's family friendly too. Probably a bit on the borderline of hidden/unknown though, since this was a headliner movie, and lots of people have seen it. • Boondock Saints Fantastic action movie. Happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time, but not necessarily everyone's (by a longshot). I STILL haven't got to watching the sequel yet :\ • The day after tomorrow Not a hidden movie I'd say. Also didn't care for it. I guess if someone DID enjoy it it certainly would be surprising, though. • Titanic you got to be joking, since it's one of the most popular movies ever. • 9 very cliché kid's movie. IMO not appealing to adults. I only watched it because of hype and/or because people recommended it and maybe even said it wasn't a kid's movie - which I disagree with strongly. I think it's a great movie for kids, but not really for an older person. _____________________________
1 movie I can think of right now that I enjoyed and is somewhat underrated/unknown: Knockaround Guys - It has well-known actors and obviously a rather high/fair budget, but no one talks about it today, and a guy on Youtube said it was underrated, so I suppose it can go here. Edit: the reviews of it aren't that good either. I personally liked it so more-so of a reason to be on this list (even though I wouldn't say it's great or anything)
Also, Click. I was VERY surprised at how good this movie was, and was really expecting a lame movie for some reason. Adam Sandler acted well, and the movie was overall well put together with two quite contrasting and distinct melancholic-drama, and upbeat/comedy halves. Must see, pretty much family friendly too. That said, it's probably borderline underrated/hidden, if hidden at all. Edit: again I'd say definitely underrated though, rather poor reviews.

Korean film Haeundae is a pretty good disaster movie, with some comical moments and serious moments !

Generally though, these type of films get average reviwes because they're all the same

lol dante's peak. been trying to remember the name of that movie off and on for the past 6 months it seems. reminds me of the time my family ordered it on payperview and i watched it over and over all day. I have a "disaster film" from around the same time that i can recommend.
Daylight http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116040/ basically the holland tunnel collapses and they have to find a way out to escape the flood. I havent watched this since i was about 8 but id say its similar to dante's peak. If my memory serves right that is.

Rubber - It's a tire with telecinetic powers that falls in love with a girl and kills humans...
What could go wrong?

Shinjuku Incident - Is an underrated movie tbh, it's one of my favorite Jacky Chan movies. No badass fighting but it's really realistic and true a movie made for him. I recommend this movie for everyone even if you aren't really into the asian cinema. I didn't watch this when it came out but only a year ago, I've been regretting the fact it took me so long Go go watch it!

+1 for Sunshine, I love that film.
Its probably been said to death, but 'Cinderella man' is pretty damn good if I might say so.

I saw an amazing movie on the weekend. Its in my top five for sure.
Red White and Blue, directed by Simon Rumley. Its about two people, one is a lady named Erika who is a big slut and cant connect with anybody. She meets a psychpath named Nate and they fall in love. The other half is about Frankie, a guy in a punk bank whos mom is dying of cancer.
Basically halfway through their storys meet and culminate in the most fucked up 45 minutes ive ever seen in my life.
This one is pretty depressing, but left a realllly big impact on me.

Made me feel really happy to be alive =) surprisingly good for sure
