so it's the second-place decider matches as well as the first-place decider matches? running parallel to each other?
but then day 3 games are JUST the quarterfinals? sure.
anyhow, my bets are Spirit, Liquid, Mineski, and OG in the quarters. Fnatic out, Pain out, LFY out. OG aren't good enough to beat VP and I think Optic have much better execution. excited for this ridiculous group stage format to end.

I think they could have kept all matches as BO3-s given the amount of time they will have. Friday & Saturday there will be just 2 BO3 games on each day.
But still I am ok with this compared to the swiss format that was tried out earlier this season. The opening matches' match-ups also seem to make sense considering the achievements of the teams this season.
I am expecting Fnatic, OG, Liquid & Mineski to end up in quarter finals after today. So this draw can give us VP vs Liquid before the grand finals..?

So basically what is going to happen here is Liquid are going to play one of the teams who finished first who drop into quarter final stage. That team will be Optic who will then lose to Liquid and get 0 points and PPD will go ape shite on twitter and never go to an ESL event again.

Only way for Optic to qualify for TI is to get first in this major. All or nothing. Can't really complain much about bracket luck since technically the best team should be able to win anyone.
He can still complain about the lack of loser bracket in playoffs though

I know ppl love twitch and what not , but that stream quality is AMAZING , high quality no lags , too bad it hurts their viewership so much.

No losers is better for PPD , Optic are NOT the best team in this ESL so they will benefit less from a lower bracket.

Dota has some pretty heavy match-up variance, which means some teams will be relatively stronger against others regardless of overall skill. So even the best team at a tournament has maybe a 50% chance of winning it.
Optic got the "bad' luck this season. Slack's draws at Bucharest has dictated more of the results of the DPC than people want to admit right now, lol. Optic also lost a major they qualified for because it stopped being a Major.
At some level, you just have to win your matches, but they ran into VP in two separate Majors that VP won. They've been, at points, about the #4 to #7 best team in the scene and got the least amount of points for it. ppd has some right to be annoyed with this season's DPC system.

Bucharest Swiss format is the only reason VP is in the top 8 DPC
