It is, but I think it makes some sense.
To advance, you either have to:
Win Bo1, Bo3 => Semi Win Bo1, Lose Bo3, Win Bo1 => Quarter Lose Bo1, Win Bo3, Win Bo1 => Quarter
It removes 3-6 games per group and you should generally end up with roughly the same result. Given it this isn't a knockout Group Stage, it is a different approach but it's fair.

Final Tribe vs DC: someone eventually will lose this game.

The fight went so badly for DC, the Win Probability for Final Tribe hit 101%.

We're only one EE late-game throw from Final Tribe making Quarters on the back of the viewer's appreciation for these people being professionals.

For being a new management company on the Dota scene, GESC has done pretty well so far. It's clearly a "cheaper" tournament, but audio is sync'd, visuals are good enough and transitions are done properly. It's wholly professional presentation.
Too bad, because of the timing of the tournament, they didn't get any of the current Top 5 DPC teams. 6, 7, 8 & 11 are here and they're going to be the teams getting DPC points.

Dendi doesn't look bad for someone sacced in lane.
Wait no lul they were babysitting him the whole time.

Jesus NAVI xD Dendi gyro is not good.

Navi sure showing how they earned those DPC points.

If I were Fnatic or Final Tribe right now, I would throw this game as hard as I possibly could. It's such a dramatically easier bracket for the loser.

Good game by Infamous, though I feel like that Morphling saved their draft. But, such is the nature of Bo1s, especially in a rapid push meta.

Morphling was strong, but having Viper being an actual second core was more game winning. Gyro was utter dead weight, so Navi had zero threats outside blowing every single ult to get one kill.

Good point about Viper. Any idea how he actually farmed with it? Or is it no one else actually prioritizes farm on him, making him functionally a 3 in most drafts?

Fnatic has picked a completely different opener in every game this far I think. A nice change from 1-2 months ago when they seemed pretty restricted in terms of what they could play. Though partly they probably are doing it because these games aren't yet super meaningful (everybody goes through) and not against the best teams in the world so it's a good place to try. Interesting to see what they will do if they face EG or VGJT later on

Holy shit pie so good haha. 2 clutch glimpses

This Lifestealer is not losing any hp with this build. Often feels a bit awkward to see a Lifestealer just sit and farm until Radiance but the build seems quite strong
Fnatic winning sets up Fnatic vs EG semifinal assuming Fnatic beats NaVi vs DC winner

Fnatic will for sure beat Na`Vi or DC, but EG will be an interesting match

I like how EE's been playing with more farm, Universe is stepping up to let his boy farm
