I'm surprised that people find their play style unexciting. The kotl strat, in particular, tends to lead to them being behind early and then catching up and winning on a timing. People usually find swings and catching up exciting. People usually find timing strats (as opposed to hard carry long games) exciting. What makes liquid boring, then?

I'm not entirely sure and I don't know how to word my guess.

I think a lot of it is that they win through strategy more than play.

I'd say it's because one-shotting creep waves from complete safety is a dull way of stalling the game. 700 damage from 2200 range and all.

Ah, ok. I don't feel the same way, but I think I can understand where you are coming from. Sort of a draft win vs. even match where team fight reactions make the difference?

Personally I've always been a huge fan of old Alliance / C9 style split push strats and really enjoy games where people win by out thinking instead of out fighting, so I love Liquid's style.

I really wish VP had Ancient Apparition instead of Crystal Maiden during that first game. It would at least turn off the sustain Liquid had for ten seconds (or seventeen seconds if the game still went that long because AA Aghs is pretty strong that late). Nothing to do about it now though.

Among the Chinese teams, I'm actually liking Newbee the most. Mainly because Kaka and Sccc are super baller and I kinda want Faith to shatter these this "never had a repeat winner" line and to otherwise deconstruct this "western team wins odd year" superstition.

Probably as part of Act 2 of Siltbreaker after TI.

Is anyone else still baffled by OG? Every time I see them at a major they just dominate. But yesterday was just so... bad. What happened? I know Bulba defended them but it was hard to agree with him tbh. Have OG been poor for a while or was this just a disappointing TI for them?

They havn't been stellar since their last Major win. They are still a tier 1 team.

i always feel like their draft isn't very solid, sometimes picking heroes that no one else picks and having mediocre success with them (broodmother, panda)

also winter wyvern lul

think ana isn't as solid as some of the better mid players too, not saying he's bad though. i'm a fan of him but i think he needs to really step up a bit more to get into chinese mid level's tier. notail is a bit underwhelming too.

Cant decide between LGD/iG. But whichever won, sincerely hope they will kick Liquid's ass.

Winner bracket final, LFY hold slight advantage i think.

Imagine carry naga, except now (from some fluke of game design) naga can easily acquire radiance as support.

Yup.

Day 4: Impressions from the crowd

Still having a blast! The games between VP and Liquid were really fun to watch; it's sad to see the non-Chinese teams performing so badly, but it happens sometimes! Last year we had 3 SEA teams in top 8, this year none. Cycle of dota.

As much as people don't want to hear this, I think Liquid is probably the worst team left. If they win, it's gonna be on the back of Mind Control, but since they're so strategy dependent I feel that they'll get pulled apart by the best teams.

I absolutely hate all-star games, in all of their forms. I wish they would just disappear. This allstar game was boring, the last allstar game was boring. As much as Valve hates it, this game isn't meant to be played in a carefree fun way. Maybe I'm getting too old....

Last note: food trucks outside the arena are godly! My friends also got screwed in the cosplay competition. =(

I feel all star games are boring because pros don't know how to make them fun. Going around not farming and just trolling is not fun. Picking heroes like Abaddon/Medusa is not fun. Pick heroes with disables/burst like Gyro/Mirana/Lina/Lion etc. Farm but don't build carry items on carries. Get dagons/blademails etc. Try to outplay with cute stuff.

the first 15 minutes and last 15 minutes are good. It had dropped rapiers, not picked up rapiers, trying to throne vs megas etc. + Show Spoiler +
and I'm fairly sure had they picked up the rapier Liquid would have lost

but for everything inbetween it's mostly just kotl nuking creeps and liquid not being able to get through the lv25 veno wards while keeping VP in their base.
