But if EG wins TI5 over the back of techies, fuck that. it'd be their opponents fault for not banning techies when eg doesn't even look like their OP pool runs that deep this tourney

Only break from that was in early competitive DotA 2 when there were some bugs with Fissure, but then Icefrog buffed the hero anyway.

Go eg then! iceiceice was awful this game (although the rest of his team wasn't much better) and probably had the weakest tournament out of all his teammates

I don't remember what VG banned in the second phase but giving ES away might have been a mistake. Even picking it over DS and putting icex3 on it + another support to work around the offlane would have worked. fy betted on the fact that the Rubick pick would have deterred any ES picks. He was wrong, and his Rubick didn't even manage to steal fissure all game. If anything, him picking Rubick as 2nd pick was really the game losing aspect.

If they kept stalling, I believe PL could have pulled away pretty well. And if they could pressure the game into fights that were more on their own turf, it would have been much easier to really make the potential big combos they had work.

It just makes it all the more amusing how many people were saying Xiao8 was washed up and should retire 2 years ago after LGD's TI3 run.

I do think VG should've taken the ES over the Rubick though in their draft.
