Well, in korean Starcraft: BroodWar it was usual to avoid team-kills (when 2 teammates are facing each other), and one of the reasons is that when you train very often with each other very weird mind-games and off-bit strategies starts to dominate, and in weird settings usually a weaker player could become favourite to win.
That being said, yes Dota is different, but still - they are Koreans.
It's cause they're Koreans and not because Hot Six consistently has beaten them in head to head....
Ok
Again. Scrims together a lot -> weird stuff comes into play -> weaker team could easily be favourite to win. Whats wrong with that?
Except Hot Six haven't been the weaker team this patch as the proved in multiple tournaments. This isn't pre Phoenix schism teams we're talking about here.
It can be argued that Hot Six is underperforming and/or Group B was more contentious than Group A but Hot Six haven't been the weaker team after DAC.

Oh man, I love this match up because of the pride on the line.
I would have prefer them not splitting up the Round 1 Upper Bracket into 2 days. This schedule probably favor the winners of Monday, having an extra day to prepare for the winners of Tuesday for Round 2. Although having too much time to mull over every pore can be detrimental sometimes.

How much is this trip costing you, Opti?
the winners of monday WB1 play each other, and the winners of tuesday WB1 play each other all on wednesday, so there's not toooo much diff
i haven't been keeping track of how much this trip is gonna cost me haha. i did a bunch of locations before landing in seattle (went to LA, vegas, grand canyon, SF, yosemite, currently in vancouver, heading down to seattle for TI tomorrow). hoping to spend less than 10k AUD haha.

Then they won't be able to prepare together for their opponents, and instead have to prepare alone against each other.
Same with the Chinese teams. They want to work together, so they have to not play each other.

there's a lot of reasons for that but it's still funny
There could be only the one great NA team! or you know, ppd doesn't want to give up a much easier opponent to CDEC. Whatever the reasoning is, I doubt EG gives a slight fuck about coL. Kyle is a good captain, sure, but Sumail is going to annihilate him at mid and it will over in less than an hour.
EG vs Secret should be hella good. TS looking rather exploitable at the moment, it could be 2-0 sweep for USA. My bet is that we'll see Necro-Abba combo.

Skill wise in dota 2, PPD is better than swindle, but that's because of their roles.
PPD in a skill sense is a very good 5. 5's usually require map positioning, fight positioning, and timing. Swindle in a skill sense is not even close to a world class mid. They both have value as the captains, but in dota2 PPD is definitely better at what his role demands while being a good captain.

chuan can fuck off back to malaysia and then form another sea powerhouse.
Cause Korea is bad ? IG is not a strong team, and I hope both MVP teams move through to the BO3.
I hate BO1's though in a world championship tourney... I don't know why valve would extend the tourney but still have 1st round BO1.... That 1 game is worth over 150k.....
I don't think Korea teams any worse than any other region, they just don't have really scary teams like EG, Secret. Both MVPs can take games off any team at the event.
And I am sure we will find out the Bo1 is due to venue restrictions and time. Are any elimination matches in the losers bracket going to be Bo1?
The first 4 games of Losers are BO1. So 4 teams are eliminated in a BO1. That's rough.
They already added 4 Bo3s so that top 8 isn't decided by Bo1s. You know the famous "Liquid are doing it!" game against LGD at TI3 was a Bo1 right?
TI2 had 4 Rounds of Bo1s meaning 12 teams got eliminated by Bo1s. TI3 had 3 Rounds of Bo1s meaning 10 teams "" TI4 was the first time where they used Bo3 to determine top 8 but the format isn't as comparable. TI5 has 1 Round of Bo1s meaning 4 teams get eliminated by Bo1s
So going into the main stage I wanted to see if my personal feeling of hero diversity this year was correct. It really feels like we have a tight concentration of heroes that are being picked or banned every game. I did a quick pull for pick/ban rates on datdota and thought you guys might want to see the stats.
Last year only 4 heroes had a combined pick/ban rate above 75%:
This year we have 10 heroes above that mark:
Another quick stat: this year 80.6% of heroes have been picked in the group stage. Last year this number was 86.6%. This assumes a hero pool of 108 this year and a pool of 105 last year. Those #s might be off by 1 somewhere because I can't remember exactly what was enabled/disabled. This might be somewhat exaggerated by a large sample size last year (123) vs. this year (115).
Anyway if anything seems off let me know, did this pretty quick on lunch break.

LOL thanks for sharing that. I hope Swindle grew up but he still kept that shitty name so who knows...
Swindle wasn't stealing money. It was entirely made up by PPD who didn't have the entire story and it's one reason why PPD was considered a cancer in the HoN scene

edit - Also, there's pretty much 0% chance swindle or ppd would ever scrim with each other. EG/CoL might have some 4v4 random stuff, but that seems unlikely.

Very interesting. Maybe it is because we don't have the full tournament yet, but I too was really getting the feeling that these drafts were more repetitive.
