And i thought that rat dota was boring. These 6 pools... there is nothing to see. The difference is that if you fail you don't lose immediately. IN SC2 there is no second chance, here you have multiple chances, because your heroes will fall off 30 mins + , and you plan to end game 15 mins earlier, even if you dont, you get at least 1 lane of rax...
The VG push strat isn't uncounterable by any means. ESL proved that a one-dimensional push strat could be taken apart with careful early ganks. However, teams such as EG at TI4 were way too greedy and allowed VG to start beating at their buildings with no repercussions.

What was that ESPN thing all about? A segment dedicated to Dota? Live interview?
All I see now are some crossfit games... Wow, crossfit is really big in the US...
Didn't miss a ton. A little thing about how each team got to the finals, an interview with Xiao8 and RotK where they asked 3 questions to them, Gaben interview, predictions, random marriage proposal from the crowd.
Edit: CountChocula threw it up in another thread if you're interested

in the case of this strat, "fail" = run out of steam before taking rax and have no shot at outscaling the other team, while it seems like you're defining it as "take all outer towers but wait on taking rax," which is more like this strat "going even." VG doesn't necessarily plan to end the game at 15 minutes, it just so happened that their opponents often drafted/laned so badly that it turned out that way. you're oversimplifying how strong push strats are, basically
but yea it's typical that someone who thoguht rat dota was boring would think this is boring. i'd agree that both are boring to watch sometimes, but conceptually, they present interesting puzzles in terms of draft strategy (how to beat them? what are they best against? how do you even build the best earlygame push or rat strategy?) a lot of the enjoyment i get out of dota is trying to figure out how losing teams could've drafted or laned better to win

Yeah, VG was even planning for the game to go longer, with Leshrac finishing his midas before rtz (lol)
Its also that teams like EG and DK has played and drafted very greedily for a while now. I don't see how Newbee and VG can be blamed for playing a style thats logically good against it (and for EG to be unable to adapt in light of this).

They praised Sylars farm in game 1 but really it was mainly tower gold, so no, it wasn't that impressive.
How can you get bored in a 15 min game? Teams need to learn to gank a lot by the 10 minute mark. the vg deathball needs some items before it starts rolling. if you kill them early and delay those items by a few minutes you got a huge advantage. ofc if you pick TA vs razor and go midas you lose. If anything needs nerfing, it's the radiance naga and blink furion. the vg push is strong, but it falls off pretty quickly and can definitely be countered, especially since you see it coming a mile away. the main reason it worked so well this ti is cuz nobody expected it, everyone prepared for something else. but like 1 month from now, nobody's gonna do it anymore cuz it will get figured out really fast.

as a c9 fan, "for some reason" is all too familiar to me
i guess the distillation of my disappointment is that c9 eg and dk were the 3 teams most capable of outdrafting this kind of thing in a spectacular fashion, and they all fell back on stuff that clearly wasn't going to work. c9 was arguably the closest, too. on second thought though, fucking PPD WHY DIDNT U PUT mason potm rtz timber universe void my anger will never die; a fire has been lit that will never be extinguished and it burns

what about drafting against that and not go super greedy
Atlesat VG is by far the most interesting CN team for me, fy-god and rotk.
Still feels sour that c9 didn't beat them, they looked so much closer than dk and if they hadn't done that lvl 1 rosh (or if it succeeded) I feel like c9 woulda been vs eg ;;

This game needs less greedy drafts. And Kotl.
True. Perhaps the good old KotL/PL combo should make a come back!
