Can you explain this dota betting? I assume this isn't real money betting right? What do you win on your bets?
people bet dota cosmetic items, some of the older ones are actually worth quite a bit of money on the marketplace
I don't play dota so if someone bets one of the items they own and win a bet, they win an item of bet winning value but where does this item come from and how would you get exact value?
Like say you bet a $1 item for vg to win at 24x to win and they end up winning. You now won an item equal to $24, but where does this item come from? Does valve give you credit so you can buy $24 worth of items on the market place?
there's a bot that collects items and redistributes them to bet winners. The value is taken from the steam marketplace

depends on the betting sites, i think most of them just give you multiples of items at a certain value (e.g. 24 $1 items). the items come from the inventories of the losers
With these chinese teams the gap doesn't feel that immense. It's about the patience and mechanical discipline to not whiff games like Western teams do (badish example but look at c9's group stage losses). There's no particular part of their play that's especially charismatic. Though that could also be down to exposure and simply not noticing what makes them so great and why you should care.
I disagree with this. If we compare VG and DK, as just an example, the two teams are like opposites in their style, and in their strengths and weaknesses. I don't find the generalizations about how Chinese teams supposedly play to be true any more. They've branched out across the meta, and there's lots of variety.
I will say that Newbee and VG play a bit similarly, but they both play in a manner nobody would associate with Chinese teams coming off of TI3. They are confident, aggressive, and sometimes even flashy. I think they'll be fun to watch.

Chinese teams are ok. I liked newbee(just because they beat DK badly on one time period i have a thing on teams that beat fan favorites). At least for me. Part of the reason is that it's sort of anticlimactic to have chinese vs chinese cause it's a global competition so i it would be nice to have a hyped east vs west. Part of the reason is that not really wanting dota 2 to become like starcraft scene.
Maybe for others it's more like Newbee vs VG is really anticlimactic since they are the least likable chinese team i think. IG and DK has so many fans while newbee has opterown and idk who are the VG fnatics but i know people love ROTK.
So the top 8 is 5 Chinese teams and 3 Western teams, various teams took multiple games off various chinese teams (Newbee was 7-8, LGD was 7-8.
TI3 was Western vs Western?Did you dislike that final?
Although it was west vs west. It wasn't really anticlimactic. And even if it was west vs west. It was Ukraine + Estonia + Germany vs Sweden. So it had the international feeling that it gave. unlike this TI4 which is chinese vs chinese . I don' really mind if chinese win or makes it to grand finals every year. As long as it's chinese vs something else so that it feels like a global competition. Not another chinese tournament. That's really my only complain.
Not to mention it was the match most hated team in the world vs the most like team in the world. And the most hated team in the world was a unstoppable juggernaut while na'vi was the only only that looked to beat alliance that time. So it was hyped as fuck.
Seriously that was a really sick story line to follow.
Maybe you should go read a book if you want a sick storyline to follow? People like you in this thread are the most impossible to understand. This is a tournament. The purpose is to determine who is the best team in the world. Every team enters with the purpose of placing as high as possible. They don't care a fig about entertaining you or producing "good storylines". All these teams whose playstyles people arbitrarily like, they don't play that way because they care about you. They play that way because it wins them the most games and they'd change their playstyle in an instant if they found a superior one.
That's why I find all these people bitching about boring games to be a little ridiculous too. To me the most beautiful playstyle is the one that wins you the most games, whether it's 4 protect 1, 5 man, early push, split push, facerush, whatever. Wouldn't you rather support a team that always asks itself "how can I win?", rather than a team that insults your intelligence by asking "how can I entertain the crowd?"
That reminds me of TI2 of iG vs LGD in the loser bracket final where in G1 both teams were literally just fighting nonstop all over the map and the game ended up being pretty much the overall most action packed and highest quality game of the tournament. And yet, people still said '60 minute Chinese farm boring dota'

No you win the items of the people who lost. You win 24x by betting on vg because most people didn't bet on them so there are a lot of items to distribute.
Ah ok now it makes sense. Was trying to figure out where the items came from and forgot about the losing side's items.

people didn't even want to watch it. It was the best game all tournament for me.

Watching Reach would have been meh without Cholera's manlot commentaries.
the "manlot" meme came from the fans who liked watching bw even without english commentary, maybe you should thank them for getting Cholera into the scene

Pretty much, that was the game of the tournament for me. I don't think I've seen YYF play a better game since

That actually was a highly praised game even if it flew slightly under the radar compared to all the series with Na'Vi, it was the two AM-slowly-outfarming-Morphling games that weren't as well received.
