Any Filipino teams? I've recently fallen in love with Pinoy dota thanks to LD casting GEST IDC. Definitely gonna have to check out the vods for this, know where they'll be hosted?
I think they are just using the main jD stream which means that the vods will be there. (I think they do both youtube/own3d)

Thanks for the info. Hoping to see eMaxx take the tournament, they looked really solid last time I saw them (and they've won the past 3 or so GEST tournaments too).

Yamateh won't be playing I think. He mentioned in an interview it's partly to concentrate on Dota 2, and also partly because he has work to do and unable to spend too much time on gaming.

Not sure what y'all mean by not in pool, but Drow is definitely enabled and available in CM for 6.76c in Dota 1, she was picked quite a few times during the last GEST. In Dota 2, she is explicitly disabled from the CM pool, so there is a difference as it stands now.

Also the venue is pretty empty, but I guess it is still midday and during the middle of the week.

Really? I still like a lot of the war3 art better than dota2. The spell effects and stuff obviously look better in dota2 but for some unit models I think dota1 has a cuter/cleaner design.
Biggest things I miss are the lane creeps, siege units and buildings. The buildings in dota2 are really blah. The barracks don't look like barracks and towers are boring pillars.
Maybe they should close the stage cams on stream. Can't see shit anyways in them and they definitely take up a good amount of physical memory to run them for what I assume to be an old computer.
They closed it now but it is still dropping frames. At least it isnt freezing completely like before...
It's still far from unwatchable. You guys are spoiled by DotA2, I remember watching these tournaments on streams that looked like projector images on dirty shirts.

The map in dota 1 is actually slightly bigger than dota 2. Its hard to say what exactly is different, could be visual, could be due to engine but simply put the pros feel better playing puck in dota 1 than in dota 2. And because they feel different they would rather pick a hero that feels better and thus puck is not used especially since theres so many viable heroes to choose from.

its mostly just dota1 pinoy style. everybodys animations are usually slower/harder to control in dota but thats negligible to puck

The teams that played at WCG did so because it was in China and they didn't make it into the Dota 2 event

LGD wanted to play in Dota 2 but didn't qualify. You can't compare WCG China which was enormous and local to the teams.
Several teams have said they only practice Dota 2. DK have specifically said they will never play a Dota 1 tournament.

Organisations have already said they're focusing on Dota 2. WCG China was enormous and local to the teams, this isn't about prize money, this is about exposure. Chinese tournaments have never had large prize pools.

TongFu isn't a small team. iG were registered to SMM but later declined. DK have said they won't play Dota 1, what more do you need here? WCG had a 20-40,000 people watching at the venue, SMM has a 1-200 seat theater room, it is incomparable.

It's more the decision of TOs than teams. There's zero reason for second-tier Chinese teams to be playing DotA 1 if none of the major leagues (G-1, G-League, ACE, etc.) are running DotA 1 events anymore. Why play a game that nobody else runs events for?

It's more the decision of TOs than teams. There's zero reason for second-tier Chinese teams to be playing DotA 1 if none of the major leagues (G-1, G-League, ACE, etc.) are running DotA 1 events anymore. Why play a game that nobody else runs events for?
The question is, do you think there were second tier Chinese Dota 1 teams in position to exploit the departure of the Big Three + TF? Personally, I don't, and I think the organizers felt the same way, which is why they all made the switch after the Big Three decided to switch.
It's not that Dota 1 is dead in China. It remains the biggest Dota game there, while Dota 2 is still just a blip on the map. But when it comes to eSports, there's nothing at the level of the Big Three + TF, and I'm not talking about skill level. I'm talking about the level of organization and sponsorship. I'm sure that, were SMM a local tournament, getting amateur Chinese teams to join isn't an issue. But sending teams outside of China, that's a feat few teams outside of the Big Three + TF are capable of, hence the disappearance of Chinese Dota 1 competition overnight in the international scene.
The paucity of second tier teams isn't ultimately a paucity of moldable talent, but a paucity of infrastructure - the second and third tier teams, players, organizations and sponsors that make up the backbone of a talent chain. The vacuum created by the Big Three + TF switching to Dota 2 is easily filled, and there are plenty of market incentives to do so, given the huge player base of Dota 1, but for the fact that there aren't teams, organizers, and sponsors up to the task of doing so.
Of course, China's scene is not entirely at fault here. SMM's organizers also chose... Poorly, given that they had the opportunity to speak with team organizers in advance and to confirm lock ins earlier.
But SMM's organizers are themselves limited by what China is able to offer. Who else was SMM going to invite?
there are no major dota1 tourneys hosted in china. revenue is still made in dota1, but that's through personal streaming. guys like yaphets etc making pubbing videos.
the benchmark for highest caliber of competition isn't suddenly vacated because the big teams moved to dota2. it is sticky onto the players, rather than the game. kind of like everyone should know the best starcraft players are bw pros even though there is no bw being played. (if dota2:dota is anything like...i digress) for the established big name tournaments, it's still the same game with a new skin for tournament viewers. so yea, all the pro teams are transitioning to dota2, even new teams like VG.
overall level of chinese dota commercial viability has taken gigantic strides btw. due in no small part to the "investment" made by rich kids into their toy teams. iG and LGD sponsors are pretty major companies, and there are tv ads featuring iG selling lenovo computers
