Well, welcome to eSports where Skype reveals your IP. I read this article by Destiny a while ago, and I figured many people would stop using Skype or take the precautions listed. I guess DotA is still fairly new to eSports.

Isn't the IP just as easy to get after the reset like in the first place? It depend on your net. If you have a static ip, resetting does nothing. You have to contact your ISP to do it. If you are dynamic IP, resetting should do it. Don't quote me though.

As others have said, they may have mishandled how they did it, but they did try. these kind of statements don't really contribute anything at all. Skype has issues but it's still incredibly useful (indispensable?) as an administrative tool.

They all have chatrooms and groups. You have more administrative control using any other service. The only issue is getting people to install them. Even when casting, it seems silly to use Skype because when someone drops, the active caster has to re-invite them whereas on a chat program with a server, whoever was disconnected is the one who re-joins. The only downside I've heard is latency, but I'm not sure that's really true with a decent server.

Skype has issues but it's still incredibly useful (indispensable?) as an administrative tool. This is how I see Skype. Most everyone knows that program has its usefulness. Need to contact a friend out of country or away. Want to talk to them and what not. Skype is good for people who uses it as a leisure tool. For just average joes who isn't at risk of things like this. Skype becomes a huge issue for Streamers or eSports who needs the program but at the same time needs to be safe. Skype has security issues, huge ones that is a big problem for Pro Gamers and Streamers. That is the problem.

The combination of group hosting and being able to message those offline is pretty damn useful for dealing with those on different timezones, no? Correct me if you can do the same things via RC or TS, but if you can't, PMing everyone on a site like tl, or getting all the managers on an irc channel, or whatever else you have to do, seems like a lot more work.

Don't quote me though. It's fair to assume no players has static ips as they often cost money and for a normal consumer useless. But even if you have a dynamic IP resetting will not do it as the DHCP server will remember your router assign it the same ip address in a timespan of 12-24 hours depending on your lease time,

In the past people used Vent more actually, but Skype is mainstream, acts as an instant messenger, and lets you talk without connecting to a server all in one program. Can't believe there's still that IP leak though. It's been around for so long now.

You can do that in TS, but I'm not sure about RC. You can also send emails. ![]()
