Because this game is about pleasing the crowd and making you happy, not for, let's say, 1.5 kk dolars.

no its fine that their playing with their best heroes and with what they think will let them win, i'd do the same.

its just boring to watch

Alliance and Na'Vi haven't been boring at all to watch. I don't know what you have been watching

For those complaining about the format, the way to see it is this way.

The whole playoffs were not to pick the winner. It is to pick the top 2 teams who will play in a grand final. It's a 2 separate stage in the tournament.

So there are actually 3 stages in the tournament which is groupstage, playoff, grand finals. Each stage is separate.

Teams who did better in group stage didn't start with a 1-0 advantage in the playoff as well despite winning more games.

Is this serious?

Yeah, they didn't get a 1-0 advantage, they got a 2-0 advantage. They started in the upper bracket and other teams started in the lower bracket, the equivalent in the format of getting 2-0'd.

There was a huge advantage to doing well in the prelims, it's really weird that you try to make it sound like there wasn't.

Yeah, a team with a 9-5 record (lets not count the tiebreaker) was in the exact same part of the bracket against a team with 14-0.

That team was seeded worse. If you're ever played in a tournament you might be aware that it's a gigantic disadvantage to play vs #1 seed first instead of vs the #8 seed.

How about the 3 teams who finished 8-6 and only 1 had to play against Na`vi, the top seed?

Alliance should have been the top seed. 3 worst teams play vs the 3 best teams. You cannot be serious?

? I don't think you understand how this tournament works.

If Alliance went 14-0 in the qualifiers, they should have been the top seed for the bracket.

Was this not the case, then?

There are two top seeds. Alliance and Na`vi who got to pick their opponents. After they pick their opponents the seeds don't matter at all, so in this scenario, the only thing that matters is placing 1st and finishing top 4 in your group.

For some reason it seems people can't get it through their heads that different tournaments have different formats and give different advantages. Which one is the correct advantage? You play a huge amount of games in group stages - 14 games. But even after going 0-14 MUFC were still in the tournament and not eliminated. And also on the flip side alliance went 14-0 and the only advantage they got was choosing LGD.CN as their opponent with everything else being even. Don't see anyone complaining about that.

Let's take a look at G-1 league format. Group stages gave a HUGE advantage. You played 5 games and where you place determined where you were placed in the playoff bracket with the top seed advancing directly to the finals.

Now let's translate this into playoff advantages. Winner's bracket gives a distinct advantage obviously, but being "eliminated" only gives the disadvantage of having to play an extra opponent.

Which one of these were objectively most "fair"?

alliance winning with someone so subpar at killing creeps as their carrier really makes one think about how dota should be played.

That group stage is to pick 8 teams to be put in Upper Bracket and 8 teams to be put in Lower Bracket.

This playoff is to put 2 teams in the Grand Finals and 14 teams to be eliminated.

Between teams in the lower bracket, there is no score advantage despite some teams winning more than the others ( IG vs DK started 0-0 despite IG being 8-6 and DK 10-4).

Therefore in the grand finals there should be no score advantage also.

of course there are other non score advantages like being able to pick your opponents or being well rested and are able to save strats and analyze more of your opponents.

If the formats were similiar, the second qualifiers should put one half of the teams in the winners' bracket and one half in the losers' bracket for the grand finals.

Which is how it would go in a properly done tournament format. As you see, doing well in the qualifiers gives you an advantage. In a proper format, that is.

The concept of the formats are the same. I think the difference is just the number. 8 + 8 then 2 + 14. I am not exactly sure what you are saying so I'm sorry if i misunderstood.

But the second qualifiers( i assume you mean playoffs?) put 2 in Grand Final and 14 in elimination.. Between teams in the same stage ( in this case Grand Finals) they start with the same score. Just like in previous round , teams in WB and LB all start with the same score despite varying group stage performance.

The first qualifier put half of the teams into the winners' bracket(8) and half in the losers' bracket(8).

The second qualifier should put half of the teams(Alliance) to winners' bracket and half(Na'Vi) to the losers' bracket.

If the concept was similiar, that is.

Unless you're actually suggesting that because winners' bracket teams started from 0-0 against each other and losers' bracket teams started from 0-0 against each other there were no differences between the teams that ended up in the winners' bracket and the losers' bracket, which would just be absolutely hilarious.

Too true.

It's still good, but last year was amazing.

What was TI1 like?
