Every single game I keep hearing this australian accent going "saving up for that BKEYB" "you think hes gonna get that BKEYBE?" "Hes gotta get that BKEYBE now"

Is this the end-all, be-all item in dota?

Item variety lacking in this game?

depends on the hero, but most would benefit from it, most carries absolutely need it to shake off and survive all the disables thrown at them, basically if it didnt exist you would see much less variety of carries

it is not the end-all, be-all item unless a team exploits a surprise BKB which can result in a team wipe

viable items that "lack" in this game are mainly just some orb effects which dota 2 will hope to fix better than dota 1 and veil of discord which is a new item, but its all viable. the thing is when you have 1+ million dollars being fought over... most people resort to safer strategies

as for pudge, he doesnt really fit in any lineup and his ultimate is channeling at melee range, which limits his usefulness in teamfights

What about his pull? It seems like it could help a team pick off a player quickly and gain the much needed 4v5 before a team fight. Is it easy to dodge?

'

Think about it this way, pudge's hook is way shorter than clockwerks one, (think half or more), has way longer travel time, but with a very short cooldown (clocks hook is an ultimate so). If even clock can miss albeit rarely, pudge will need a lot of skill as well as a bit of luck to be able to hook consistently.

Does anyone else feel like everything has super long range? Seeing beast master's ulti being used on a hero almost a full screen away, clockwerk's ulti and magina's blink seemed to have much longer range than they did in dota1. I don't remember these skills having the range of almost a full widescreen especially since wc3 was in 4:3.

How accurate is this Tier list as of August 1st? (before this tournament started)

http://www.dotacommentaries.com/index.php/luminous/9850/

Do people really never use Bane Elemental, Shadow Fiend, Rogue Knight, and Admiral anymore?

Bane Elemental not used at all
Shadow Fiend on occassion but mostly no teams favour heroes like weaver who has that built in escape or heroes like brood/lycan who can also push really well.
Rogue Knight seen him like once lately without success though don't think he's very good personally...
Admiral not used at all

Sven fits in with a ganking line-up. He can take the role of a carry due to his ulti or the role of a ganker since he isn't item dependant to cast his spells, most of which are support class worthy. We have seen him in both roles at this competition since several of this competitors aren't in the pool of heroes. He has done much better than clockwerk which has basically been a negative contribution to any team.

If we do see SF it would most fit into a 4 protects one strategy, where SF is one of the ones protecting the carry. Would probably be heavily dependant on opponent picks and bans. He has been played this tournament, once again due to lack of his competitors in the pool of heroes and the wonderful nukes he has.

The problem with sven is that, as voiced by many other players, his early manapool allows for only 1 stun, which makes him not the best trilane hero, and as a carry he gets countered hard by a diffusal.

still love to play him though

When did battlefury become a viable item in competitive play? I recall it being considered a "noob" item. Has it received a buff in dota 2?

No Buff, the reason i believe is because of the good buildup, eg. antimage can get a ring, then decide if he needs a vanguard or skip the vanguard into pers.

Also gives aoe damage for farmers that need it.

And that's why you always skill stun + stats until you have a good enough mana pool to be able to do things .. my brain explodes every time I see people not getting stats on Sven

I get 1 level of warcry for that ms and some armor boost and just buy mantles if you have mana problems but never had problems with his manapool rly you can basically only use the stun once in a gank after the aoe and cooldown change. miss the old 8 sec single target stun sven :I

Why get a hero who need the stats to stun twice when you can get a slew of others that can use that skillpoint on something that will benefit the trilane even more.

WD and Dazzle are some that come into mind.

the current heroes count is 104... there might be around 20 jokes heroes but the rest are totally viable in comp. dota. Balancing take a while.

Also lots of time new items got introduce instead of heroes and it is a huge change. I.E. smoke was recently insert into the game make ganking much more powerful which create a huge meta game swift.

and the new heroes dont get put into the cm (captains mode) until the team is happy with their balance.
same goes for heroes that are changed in a patch, if the changes are too big they get removed from cm.

most of the time tournament just use the previous version of the map unless there are some major bug fix was made in the new version. I honestly thought blizzard was going to hire icefrog when sc2 came out.....
