Have you tried verifying your dota files? Might help.

Went ahead and ran it, didn't find any errors.
Since that night it's been working. Just a sporadic minor annoyance.

I'm confused very much how the medal system works. I went 0-8, then 6-1 and my medal ranking went from Legend 3 to Legend 4.
So I go 6-9 and go up a ranking. How does this work.

The medal system is complete bullshit anyways.
A mate of mine is straight Legend in party ranked - but he hasn't played solo for a good two years, so he was around the 1.5k MMR mark.
So he has got his Legend 0 medal when he was placed party. Then started playing solo q at 1.5k mmr... Now he went to Ancient 1 within a few weeks, because he is improving his PARTY medal, by playing SOLO Q...
how awful is that please?

That did not happen to me. I was placed archon 5 and played til legend 0. (teams) After solo placement 400 mmr below team - I had to grind 500 solo mmr to get a star.
After this I am having the same issue with getting stars is WAY to easy. Can lose a lot and still get stars after a few consecutive wins.
All in all, it does not really matter, i feel like i'm getting placed at my skill level pretty decent.

Interesting.
I feel like it is completely random anywhere between legend 4 and ancient 3 (which is the range of mmr between my Smurf and main) you can get quite skilled players for the bracket, but you can also get complete trash tier players.

Is there a way to make a keybind that will act as a toggle for camera being centered on my hero? i.e. when I tap the button it keeps the camera centred without me holding the button down all the time.

I think there's an option in the game settings that lets you do this called something like "center camera on hero also follows" or something like that

Hey, I’m starting to play again after a long break, but I’m having trouble playing well. I usually play mid heroes like invoker, storm, SF, but I’m having trouble making an impact or even winning mid lane most of the time. Can you guys recommend a streamer or YouTube guide for a mid hero that I can use to study and practice?

I've been playing Sand King a lot recently (pos 4) - enjoyed it a lot. Im struggling with clicking the ground sometimes (when i want to stun the target and not have to turn to hit it) - is there a command to force-target the ground so hero boxes dont get in the way?
Not sure if I worded it in a way thats easy to understand - my bad.

how do you guys manage to stay sane when losing through no (significant) fault of your own?

how is it even possible for people to be this bad? :;S

Frankly I can take a draft loss or even a "[insert random position] is a noob" loss quite well. Happens both ways, ye know.
What I really don't like is when they explain/argue/flame, often with very poor to no logic (you suck because fuck you), now that tends to annoy me. It annoys me in that it makes me realize I'm spending time and efforts among kids / idiots.
It shames me when they do that
edit : that being said, there is a QQ thread for this sort of questions : https://www.liquiddota.com/forum/the-tavern/454149-dota-2-qq-thread

I've played a bunch of games with a 6k smurf down in 4k, and he had like 80% wr+, so unless you reach that level of dominance you aren't making significantly less mistakes than everyone else in your games.
Or to put it differently: Don't give a shit about what others do, give a shit about yourself first. See matches as an environment to improve in instead of a pretense to get angry about.
And yes, people do mindbogglingly stupid things on occasion, but performance isn't a always equal and dota is a game with many dimensions, so just because they brainfarted on that occasion doesn't mean they don't have areas they are far superior in. It also doesn't mean that only they screw up in dota, we all do, I certainly screw up all the time.
Also go to the vent thread for venting. It's not like there's a lot happening here either way I guess, but this threads goal isn't to vent on every page.

I guess we see things very differently - 80% winrate if you're significantly better than the people you're playing with isnt domination - domination would be 99% as is the case in Starcraft if someone with 6k plays someone with 4k.
I mean it's really just a question of arithmetics - if your winrate is only 80% or whichever, do the math and realize how exceuciatingly many games it takes before your mmr matches where you should be at.
Also people dont just mindboggingly stupid things on occasion, thats just about all they do.
Anyway I was just hoping one of you guys had some zen wisdom to share to help me stay sane but since that does not seem to be the case I will cease posting.

The zen wisdom really is to be introspective about the game rather than thinking about others. You can't control others, and you'll never be happy if you let your happiness be controlled by 4 random people on the internet. Note that this also applies to life in general.

Can I have this as a poster, please?

Albeit those are literally parent games, there is one huge difference between SC and Dota : you have 4 (random) teammates.
And as you've seen by now, those 4 guys can be heroes or zeroes, and a big part of Dota which does not exist in SC is to be able to cope/deal with this fact, every game. It also was the root of your question, if I'm not mistaken.
In this environement, to achieve a 80% win rate on your own is, for me, to be crazy good at the game.
