Welcome to TL forums, Unseen1.
Neither EG nor OG played a game on this patch yet. So we don't know if they will be as awesome as they were. Plus EG were looking shaky even in the prevous patch As you can see VP went from Major finalist to couldn't qualify to Dreamleague. IG are a top team and there is no doubt about that. Historically chinese teams need some practice after a major change to the game to master the changes as their play style requires it.
And TNC seem to be adapting pretty well pretty fast not to mention they play pretty good. I expect them to perform pretty well this summer.. The thing they lack is experience and when their draft fails they look like noobs.
So its obvious this is not Major or TI, but the games out of group stages were pretty high level. Even if EG / OG were in this tornament they could've been in the other part of the semis or one of them maybe wouldn't make it out of the groups. My guess that this patch the teams to look for will be IG, OG, Liquid and possibly EG.
After TI1 the favourite team to win it never did. As when you are the favourite everyone prepares against you. And sooner or later the day when it is not your day comes and someone punishes you.
Lets wait and see what happens. This patch is awesome and there will be a lot of awesome dota this summer!

110% disagree. I literally made an account to comment on this. SL is literally as good of competition minus OG. Secret is not nearly as dominate, EG is so-so and gets knocked off by the two big chinese teams (aka Newbee and IG) and VP could not even qualify for Dream league. The last starladder liquid won I would 100% agree with you, there was 1 or 2 TI teams and the rest were tier 2 teams. This Starladder was the cream of the crop, all top chinese teams and sea teams, solid EU teams, and decent NA competition, again minus OG and maybe EG.
"Decent NA competition" in an event with no NA qualifier and no invited NA teams..
In all seriousness the event was definitely competitive but your comments to dismiss the difference to Epicenter are a bit silly. VP was 1 game away from having the same score as Liquid in Dreamleague, they dropped some games but it's quite a stretch to dismiss them based on that after their major performance. EG hasn't been super convincing indeed but they still have top4 from both majors and a few LAN titles in the season, and we've yet to see them on the new patch. Also Secret's recent performance puts them up there behind the top western teams. Basically the event was missing the 4 strongest western teams aside from Liquid, and instead had 1 extra Chinese team (it being a Chinese event and all) and 1 extra SEA team (and Faceless still struggles hard in winning any bo3s against international competition on LAN). VGJ and NB were also invited so they didn't have to qualify and they haven't been the strongest Chinese teams lately in the Epicenter and Summit quals

lol for some reaosn i thought Vega was NP, gg. But seriously, even without "decent NA competition" TL looked extremely strong and won pretty convincingly. IG is probably the 2nd best team in the world right now, behind OG.

Thank you, I love this breakdown. I thought TNC looked like a shell of a tier 1 team, they finally seem to be clicking. Unfortunately we may not see them for a bit because they failed to qualify for a couple of tournaments. I actually think TNC and VP are around the 5th or 6th best teams in the world right now. They are very similar in skill and can knock off a lot of good teams. They seemed to separate themselves from the dreaded "tier 2" status.
As for Liquid's performance (just a little background I have been a fanboy of Liquid since SC 2 was first released.) They should be very proud of themselves today. Beating IG is a HUGE test, if they can beat them OG is realistically the only team Liquid should be worried about come TI.

The competition in Dota is way too tight to say, "If x team beats y they don't need to be worried about any other team". If all the top teams play a bo11 round robin against each other their results will be a lot closer to 50% than I'm sure many fans will be comfortable with. Sure, maybe OG is a little ahead of the rest of the pack, maybe they manage 65 or 70% win rate, but even they aren't invincible. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day.
It's not a shounen anime with set growth in power levels. Liquid lost a close bo3 to IG at Kiev, won a close bo3 against them at Starladder, but the next time they meet the results are anyone's guess. There are way too many factors at play to take any results for granted.

Yeay.... GG TL Good Luck for Epicenter and Dream league
won TI7

Congrats, guys! Well deserved.
Also, hunter still not back which means he doesn't think SL is big enough to win.
A man of his word and setting high standards for himself to achieve. Props to him. Those are good qualities of a man.

There are way too many factors at play to take any results for granted. The Bo11 example is actually very very good. Out of the top lets say 5 teams anyone can beat anyone. And in Bo11 Most of the matches will be 6:5 or 7:4 at best.
Sometimes just a single rune wins the game. Or a random sentry that is about to expire. A bash a crit etc. Too much RNG to be sure what will happen. And thats awesome for the fans.

I'd settle for StarLadder!? I mean Majors are not listed also but i think that a Major is better than Epicenter. Fingers Crossed

I think we should change the topic of this thread to When will hunter_x come back????
|
Yeah let's, I wouldn't overvalue our form though, are we clearly the best team now by far? Well obviously yes. But are we the best team in the history of Dota and dota2? Well also yes, but there's still room for disagreement

hunter_x can you explain all the nahaz-talk about Liquid now being invited for TI7?` come back!
|
guys I got words from Hunter! He told me to relay that Lemon is the most respected, awesomest person in the whole community with the biggest e-penis
And that indeed he will come back only after Liquid win Epicenter as this one's not large enough

I remember hunter_x asking me multiple times why I switched out my flair. And I have my reasons. Because Jerax leaving Liquid made them 50% less hype. Because one of my other favorite support players Lil came back to a relevant team.
But most of all, it's because hunter_x is a drama queen (case in point, this "bet") and I'd rather distance myself from him.
