The reason valve stays in Seattle is there's a huge amount of valve staff and professional production staff that need to take part. It's really not viable to be shipping that amount of bodies and, more importantly, equipment overseas. If they were to choose a new place for TI, they would definitely be outsourcing manpower and TV studio-level equipment to wherever they go on top of select staff they do fly out from Valve. If I had that choice I would choose to outsource a lot of that to the very good and proven production level of korean studios that are very familiar with esports work and, to this date, does the best production for esports. I don't think where you host it matters for fanbase. Like I said, you could hold TI in any country and get a full house of fans. Getting fans to TI is like the last in a long list of things Valve worries about for producing this.

Paperwork? To get Dota as a recognized sport I think they need a league. I also heard that to make this work Riot has to pay the teams salaries. Also even after becoming a "legal sport" a lot of LoL players still had Visa issues. It's not such an easy solution like: go through paperwork --> Dota becomes a sport --> no visa issues

The USA has to lose money to realize their mistake.

TI is this good, because it's close to Valve's office. And there are Visa's issues with europe aswell. I'm not sure why people think otherwise. We already had the same problems in the past with Starladder and Dreamhack. Not to mention that with the majors coming, this is non-sense unless all 4 of them are played in the magic european country which has yet to be discovered.

In terms of Visa issues there is no ideal country with such global lineups from so many countries. Even though this seems to be the minority opinion nowadays I actually believe that the benefits of having the tournament in the US outweighs the negative aspects. People seem to forget that there were visa issues for example yoky as well for dreamhack and I don't even want to start for Canada ( which seems to be especially the favourite on reddit right now). There were more CIS visa issues for ESWC last weekend than there are right now in the US for double the number of CIS players. In every possible country there will be visa issues. The difference between the US and any other country? In the US Valve actually has a bit of pull like they are in contact with the senator of the state of Washington right now. In every other country Valve can't do shit once the visa was denied. It feels like people are throwing random countries into the discussion, not because they are a better location but because people want to have TI near them. Apart from that it's obvious that it's way easier for Valve to organise a great tournament near them than in a foreign country.

But saying that every country in Europe where TI could be held is up to the same Visa standards as the US is hard to believe for me.
