Mars has finally been released!
THE AGE OF THE OLD GODS WILL SOON MEET ITS END
Mars, first son of heaven, spent a long existence waging endless war, and saw countless more crusades waged in his old name. Wars of conquest and of vengeance. Just and unjust... Always cruel. Like his father, Mars indulged his basest impulses—inclinations much more monstrous than those of Zeus. But the day arrived when war for its own sake was no longer enough to satisfy his desires. As the Fates would have it, his solution came easily: he must wage war for a larger purpose, and inspire more than mere savagery and sorrow at the sight of his crest. Now, the god of war aims to lay claim to his birthright—to burn down the pantheon of the old age and build a new empire atop the ashes of his kin.
SPEAR OF MARS
Mars throws his legendary Spear, damaging each enemy unit it strikes. The first enemy hero it hits is skewered and pushed back. If a skewered hero hits a tree, building, or cliff, they will be impaled to it and stunned.
GOD'S REBUKE
Mars smashes enemies in front of him with his shield, knocking them back and damaging them with a critical hit based on his attack. Imbued with True Strike, the assault adds bonus base damage when hitting heroes.
BULWARK
Mars wields his massive shield to block a portion of each physical attack when struck from the front or sides. ed note: (bristlefront?)
ARENA OF BLOOD
Mars summons an arena lined with the undead warriors of the Ash Legion, who block enemy attacks and movement. Enemy heroes near the inside edge of the arena will be attacked by spears, dealing damage and knocking them back.
The arrival of Mars also comes with a Drow remodel as well.

As always pretty ugly model.
More importantly - the Drow remodel is really pretty ugly.
I don't mind the sets, everyone wears community made stuff anyway - but dat face.

Yeah the face is pretty ugly.
Its like she went through a botox procedure and got cataract. Its not very nice to look at.
Mars is pretty fun though. Think you just build him like you would an LC, pick off people with BM and blink and get some damage items too.

and wow another hero that is gonna get nerfed for a few patches straight and has a really attack animation.

His ult seems horribly op at lvl 25 with the talent. Save for some spells that reach inside, you can basicly make any fight a 5v[1-4] without killing anything first.

new heroes have been overtuned since 10 years ago, are you new to dota or something?

Instead of working on remodels they should focused on fixing the shitty animation on some old heroes

if my memory serves me right there is a version in which he is not. regardless tho why not stick to jupiter+mars or zeus+ares?

I actually really like Mars' design. Has that same sort of campy deity feel that Zeus does.
Gameplay wise I've only played one that didn't know what they were doing and crushed them. Seems hella annoying though. Not looking forward to playing against someone good at the hero.

Cool. A tanky carry? Ult is some form of CC I suppose. Not really sure how to build him. Maybe radiance? Hero feels weak without carry items. I don't see him useful with utility.

I know this is more of a Smite thing, but I would enjoy some more mythological heroes from all corners of the world. Egyptian gods, Norse gods, Hellenistic we got covered I guess? More from China/Japan/India etc.

A solid five, one of the most well balanced on-release heroes in recent history.

I agree. His W is not bad but it has pretty high cd and low-ish range to really be a force to be reckoned with I think.
Seems well rounded. The face kinda reminds me of Ganondorf from Twilight Princess.
I can see him as different roles but propably mainly carry or Offlane. I think people dont realize the potential in blocking tower hits with his ult, which should be a great tool for early skirmishes.
Soul ring seems to be a must tho since he has really low mana.

Phoenix was the most imba release i think.
Endless Sunray with slow and huge dmg, safe kill lvl1 on any hero. x

Pretty much only Pango was not outright broken on release.

So basically the combo is to ult and spear to the arena and let the arena damage while stunned? Still not sure what this hero is useful for without items.

Teammates can walk through the arena walls right? So no?

Since Pango is magic immune in his ult it shouldnt affect him at all.
Funny interaction: If an enemy pudge hooks his mate out of your ult he will bounce of the wall, take dmg, then disappear and spawn next to pudge

not sure what s up with this hero, seems strong, especially that ult, so far met him 5 times, 3 times enemy team 2 times my team, every single time the team with Mars lost.

He's absolutely not a farming carry. He's got a decent stun and two nukes and a teamfight ultimate with a reasonable cooldown timer. He's a kinda playmaking offlaner or even a midlaner, but it's preferred if he's got teammates who have aoe abilities to throw on top of the arena. My party's stack has our Mars picker running him offlane and insisting one of us has a Crystal Maiden (not me) on our team. He goes for a greedier build with echo sabre and shadow blade, but we end up winning all our games we get him.

After playing with / against him a bunch at divine bracket...
He loses his impact when your cores get bkb. Might even be worth going second item bkb on most carries so you can easily dodge their inevitable 4 or 5 man gank/pushes. It’s actually insane how bad he feels when you just BKB
I don’t think people are using his ult correctly for the most part. you wanna hit people on the edge for the bounce damage / effect repeatedly, almost like darkseer wall. In general you wanna catch the supports. I think it would be a nice buff if the arena granted truesight or something
He’s pretty good in lane because spear lets him secure ranger creeps and that but he is pretty bad against any magic laner like veno or viper or qop or storm or whatever
He scales pretty nicely with W, vlads / satanic is difficult to deal with
Overall he seems pretty okay but not crazy strong

think about interactions with the shield wall damage, and other spells that are normally difficult to hit in the open.
when the arena traps people without bkb, their first instinct is to run, and so they take continual damage doing so, or eventually get stunned into the wall anyway. if they are smarter, they stay away from the edge and wait the seconds out.
however if you catch a bunch of people and throw dark willow fear on top, lone druid, or anything like that, they are forced to the edge no matter what.
then you land whatever else spells. a lot of heroes with either euls + blink or OD with blink can ignore this interaction themselves, but the rest of his team is in a very bad spot and you still either have to deal with the hero, or everyone ignores him.
I think his strongest overall pairing is with disruptor on the same team.
the midgame catch between the two + any kill hero is very high.
ursa, CK, maybe even wraith king to capitalize on the chaos.
his damage dealing is pretty bad outside of hitting supports, but is still a waste of time dealing with, and so he can do pretty well as secondary lane shove with the plus of blink as a core item.
unlike bristle who is completely unimpactful if they get nothing in lane, this hero at least has an ulti that still offers something.
