And i really don't believe we'll ever have that technology, i'd love to be wrong and live forever somehow, but i doubt it.

I think we will be dead before the next war breaks out..or at least old enough to not have to serve in the army if a draft is required. that's sorta pessimistic though, huh?

As someone who actually works in a biological science field I'm skeptical. But it's still interesting.

I kind of thought that two, but then my brother when on two tours, so not so much. I don't think we will see a draft again, but war could easily happen again in the next ten years.

Anything works in space. Wasting resources on explosive ordnance is quite frankly retarded in space-space combat. No amount of armor can withhold a ton of shit going at you at speed close to light. The problem with sand is it's weight is very small, as is density. Lead shavings, diamond dust, now that would fuck you up.

They use it in ship combat, because both ships are moving amazingly fast relative to each other, so the sand is moving at that same speed. They don't shoot it, they just put in the path of the enemy ship like a cloud. Anything does damage if you are moving a thousands of relative miles an hour. There is also a pretty amazing part where a pilot of a nanobot is trying to land a listening device on a glass of water, while avoiding a defensive nanocloud. The whole two book series is a lot of really fun ideas about how tech would work in a crazy future. Edit: The sand was used to destroy the senors of the enemy ship, which are more fragile. They had lasers and other more traditional weapons as well.

Why the fuck are the sensors exposed during combat thou? It's not like the amount of radiation and what not a ship would leave in vacuum can't be detected through some armor.

Its space, there is a lot of nothing out there. You need sensors to see and target. Plus both sides are throwing up shit to get fuck with the other sides ability to see them. If your senors are perfectly protected, your blind.

You use sensors to detect when the danger is close and hide them reactively. Not like a ship in space can do a u-turn, you don't need to see them 24/7
