+ Show Spoiler + From the streams I've seen, I don't see the justification for this being the "10/10 artistic apex of gaming" you see spouted from critics. The plot and characters strike me as a teen drama at moments, and becomes a mess especially towards the ending. I don't mind killing off Joel, but having him suddenly trust a stranger he just met to walk into a convenient ambush is unlike him. The finale is Ellie suddenly deciding that revenge is meaningless because of one conversation with Joel in the past, and killing hundreds of people and infected along the way to spare the one person who deserved it was A-OK. You can't tell us that "violence is bad" and then force us into committing horrendous acts of violence and murder, that's thematic entrapment. Hell, being told violence is bad is such an overdone and middle school theme that's not interesting. It would have been so much more impactful if the player was given a choice to enact vengeance or forgive Abby, instead of this hamfisted, "Revenge is hollow, m'kay?" that Ellie is forced to live by. If it's going to be about the cycle of revenge, have Ellie kill Abby and spare Lev, who swears revenge on Ellie. If you really want to push the theme of revenge being meaningless, have Ellie kill Abby, only to still suffer from PTSD and have Dina and baby flee. Many people just can't sympathize with Abby and that really hurts the ability to want to spare her. Other problems are that the pacing is atrocious. There's flashbacks everywhere that constantly break up the flow. There's even a flashback within a flashback, that's how bad it gets. The gameplay isn't a giant step forward from TLoU1. It's a faster-paced TLoU1 with more puzzle variety. At times it just feels like misery porn because the devs enjoy seeing people suffer. Only aspects I can really see worthy of praise are the performances, graphics and animations, but it's all a shiny veneer for a package that isn't so impressive. It's worrying to consider this will be the mainstream gold standard for video game storytelling. There's very little that's ambitious or groundbreaking about this story or its use of the video game medium. Feels like the majority of games reviewers turned into cheerleaders and publicity managers for the game. At this point, i'm not surprised about the reviews, i mean, there are many angles but... for once, id say good reviews are marketing and companies have budget for marketing, so kinda 1+1. And also bad reviews might even affect your site, imagine having a super big audience shitting on your web lol The first one was kinda a chore to play, had decent to good story but the characters were pretty dull and one dimensional, so if the second one is anything like that but also having worse story then... ok. In my opinion, Uncharted was such a fun series because it never took itself too serious and the writing was cringe but fun, the last of us is uncharted but without any of the fun and "deep" story that's not deep I saw a post from someone who said practically every Uncharted plot is: Nathan gets embroiled in treasure hunt with links to his past, breaks up with and reunites with Elaine by the end, loses the treasure and everything is okay at the end. Nothing particularly deep or revolutionary as a big Indiana Jones homage, but it works. Naughty Dog are not very good with the plot or even the characters. It's really the in-between moments where the characters are interacting and having fun where the writing really shines.

I bet your dad is so disappointed. Who wants to raise a man who plays with Madrid? Do you always take the lazy way? Do you work at Target and go to the local community college? I bet he asks you how that degree is coming like 3 times a month. It's always the same though, isn' it. That tinge of shame, then a small outburst. "I'm working on it dad, and my app is gonna take off". But there is no app, is there. There's no hope. Just loneliness.
