The issue with forge spirit based builds (which, btw, I agree is a fantastic spell) is that it makes him so single target focused, when he has such fantastic aoe potential. You really need to capitalise on the power of the spirits and snap very fast and gank hard with them, stealing exp and kills with sunstrike, such that you have the aoe when it is needed. It puts an onus on the invoker to outlevel, otherwise he ends up being a slightly squishy single target dps, which is both a bit of a waste, and other people do better.

If you can establish vision and map control, get fast levels for double spirits, and gank solidly - it works, and can give a strong early advantage because of the power of spirits. QW is just much more effective in early team fights often, it's another option, but has a lot of ways of going wrong.

Oh another thing, everyone who's competent and has low mana pool vs invoker is going to get Arcane boots, especially someone like Earthshaker will get them anyway, and getting 2 of them vs Invoker is a pretty common counter strategy. Double arcane boots just suddenly makes tornado-EMP completely meh. So I just don't like the build at all. feel free to be countered by double arcane boots all the time though.

Forge Spirits is just a beginning, the orb I max first is W... you don't normally teamfight at lvl 9 from my experience, and even if you do a 0.8 second disable with tornado into a 3 second delay EMP isn't too impressive to me.

You make the assumption that everyone will get 2 arcanes boots o.O

That is a crazy way to think of countering invoker. If an entire team picked up an extra set of boots just for 1 hero, they would spead 7500 gold to stop him, and by the time they get it he has other items and might kill them anyway. Thinking like that is a flawed way to think about one build invoker may do.

Invoker is a flexible hero and can be played multiple ways. If you go forged spirit, it works better with a push team. If you go q/w you are more flexible in team fights with disables. If you go exort, you have good aoe damage early on.

Yes, because forcing 2-3k worth of items, clustering, and opportunity cost of losing another form of boots completely mitigates a 4-600 damage nuke with a range somewhere in the region of an ICBM.

No need to be quite so defensive old bean. Just pointing out the potential problems with the spirits build.

If you're going to be going for double spirits, and then max wex, you're looking at roughly 14 before you have reliable aoe. As I said - that works well if you can overlevel, if not you can have troubles. QW builds are favoured because they are more stable and less prone to interference.

Also I know WQ has some more disables but even so it's a trade-off I'm doing intentionally and not a "that's worse that's better" kind of a deal. It's really naive to think that there's only one build you should do on a hero as complex as invoker.


Even the dreaded, "noob" EW build has many many good points that you can use to your advantage.

Even with that in any team fight they may not have boots up right after emp goes off.

qw is a stable build because it is a build that focuses on disables. qe is more of a push build because of the summons, but you lose a lot of disables in that build.

Lol ? invoker isn`t picked so much in competitive?
He is auto-ban in every chinease game and if not ban auto-picked.And he will be picked or banned 100% in dota2 when he is enabled in cm.

it's funny i've never seen kunka picked in any IH game i ever watched or played, yet i saw him often in competitive games, i am wondering what's up with that.

Kunkka is, when boiled down to it, pretty 1-trick pony. You rely on Tidebringer critting late game to be that devastating carry, but when it does it's absolutely wrecking.

Does anyone else find the recall on his X to be laggy as balls?

it's actually viable. chinese have been doing this forever, saving arcane cd in teamfights until emp is used.

Something about him having has armor nerfed which makes him squishy in lanes so that you can just tri-lane or solo vs him and he can't win the lane. Have you seen him in any competitive games in dota 2?

If we get OD we can finally stop seeing instant ban for AM, Bane isn't that bad against him either with those long disables.

Anybody heard when they will add another ban prior to picks? (As the hero pool is expanding.)

OD's textures have been in the game for quite a while now. Lycan and SD haven't had any assets in the game so I think they're less likely.

Just a random question about stand-ins (which i think shouldnt be allowed)

I watch just watchign a live cast of EG vs mouz and EG had 2 standins (maelk, lacoste), but demon was streaming on TL at the same time.

why dont they use their players that they have, or why doesnt eg just sign maelk damnit, he plays with them every other match
