He needs hp, has pathetic ms, needs int...how is this even a question -.- Having drums allows you to make up the weak parts of your build. Competent builds are EMP/Tornado/ColdSnap/Wall or Meteor/Alacrity/Sunstrike or Summons/Ice wall/Deafening blast...

I mean, Im not even a dota1 player and after doing just a little bit of research on invoker i could tell that his release was gonna make some pretty pathetic pubs. So far most of the invokers iv seen have just picked the scariest looking spell they can find (usually meteor) and just spam it hard. sometimes they pick a second spell to use. I have yet to see someone use EMP though. This is at very low MMR mind you. MMR definitely matters a lot. When I play with low/mid mmr group, invoker is not even picked today now (people realized they can't play it). When I play with very high mmr group, invoker is always instant picked and breaks the game.

Worst way to play it ever. unreliable, lane pushing, no stunning or escape capabilities. unless the situation requires an exort point, dont skill it until like level 9-10. High wex/quas build with drums and phase is a good way to start, using first cold snap early levels and later tornado/emp while having a good cold snap and invis available. The exort point comes in when silence is highly beneficial, a bit before the time team fights start. Exort first focusing on Alacrity and buying damage items is actually pretty hilarious, mostly because people don't expect your autoattacks to hit for like 100 damage that early in lane. That said, it's pretty strictly for fucking around. On January 22 2012 03:48 Ack1027 wrote: Drums is core on invoker lol. Ehh, his base MS sucks, but you pretty much should always have Wex/Wex/Wex on if you're not invoking a new spell. If anything, it's the fact that the combination of MS-boosting effects puts Invoker almost exactly at the MS cap. 3xWex + Phases/Janggo and their actives puts you at 517 MS when the cap is 522. Alternatively you could get Eul's + Phases for 507 MS, but Eul's is more expensive, and gives poorer stats, plus a mediocre active. I'd rather just get Janggo and turn a Staff of Wizardry into Aghanim's or Force Staff.

He's not really a great Mek user, and jumping straight into pure Intel items doesn't feel right because he needs some HP early. Janggo just feels very smooth to buy early game.

Jango makes a lot of sense to me but wouldn't treads work better with it since you delaying any kind of mana regen. DMG since Wex gives you atone of dmg and the Speed is also nice.

I know Jango is core on him, but the second item I see when I watch replays tends to be Force Staff. I always thought it would be better to get Orchid's first because your spells cost a lot of mana. What would be a good item build progression? I'm thinking something like Starting items --> Magic wand --> phase boots --> jango --> orchid's --> aghanim's --> guinsoo Also in late game is it better to have phase boots or BoT which would free up an extra inventory slot that would otherwise have to have a TP? edit: also the point of getting one level of exort before maxing out quas and wex is for deafening blast and ice wall right?

No reason for Orchid, it gives you next to nothing compared to similarly priced items. BoT/Phase is a judgement call regardless of the hero, you just have to understand if you can fit that 2700 gold somewhere in your build based on the game. Exort just gives you more spell options, and there is no reason why you need to be locked in Q/W. EEE is +16 damage iirc which helps you last hit as well.

Orchid's new buildup is nicer and cheaper and can be a pretty good way to try to deal with heroes like Weaver quickly. I'd still almost always prefer Hex though because of the stats. I almost always get one level of E early on (QIWE or something like that) since the +11 damage is nice (3 from each E and +2 from INT gain).
