I'd probably buy a small car in the 18-27,000 dollar range. Pay off any student loans or whatever you have. Take a nice vacation off for a few days with those close to me. Put the max amount allowed into an IRA each year and invest it lol.
God damn I'm boring. Then I'd go to vegas and put 10,000 on black. Na'Vi (as in the organization) didn't take any cut at all, they left all the 200k for each of the players. And I don't think taxes are THAT horrible in Ukraine. EHOME leaked an email they received from Valve, which said that each of the five players got $49 950, only $50 were deducted for transaction fees etc.
Valve dont do the tax. Being an e-sport pro means you are self-employed. Therefore you have to declare your earnings at end of each year, so they tax you. But its different in every country the actual details.

Yes, they are giving out beta keys based on beta signup list. Also press and stuff received a lot of keys to hand for events and stuff

Ever considered that the actual prize was actually bigger, but they only mentioned what the players would actually get, after the taxes?

Why would they do that. That means smaller prize pool that they advertise. Makes no sense.

Ah usually orgs have a thing where they take a small percentage (5, 10, 15%) of the prize money they make only up to the amount of the flight/hotel booked. But since Valve sponsored the flights and hotels I'm guessing that was'nt an issue, you're right
As for taxes, yeah you have to declare your taxes so making it all in one bigass sum like that will fuck you (in America at least lol, I don't know how it works in Ukraine either).
And I was joking about Roulette, Blackjack and Poker are definitely my games of choice.

No, they didn't do that lol. In Korea I heard that like, the OSL/MSL pay it so after taxes you receive the 40,000,000 Won or so. But in this situation, the prize pool is the prize pool.

They haven't given out beta keys on signup yet from what Im aware. It's purely been keys given from Valve out to people who have distributed them so far.

Just to remind everyone, there's a poll on WCG website about which games will be selected for next year's WCG. So you might wanna go there and vote for your favorite game if you want to see it at WCG 2012.
I'm not getting nuked for this, am I? :S

There are competitions and giveaways, yes, but they haven't given out betas via the opt in list yet. I'm sure if you pay attention to Valve they will let you know when it happens.

I just came across information that a VERY prominent sponsor is making it's return to DotA/DotA2.
Super excited to see big names already putting money into my favorite game.

Ok so a few legitimate comments/concerns about beta
If they ARE going to open up beta, and add several hundred more players to the beta, then there is one GIGANTIC thing they need first, which is a fucking MMR/ranking system
Me and TrueRedemption just played a game where a Lina was worse than a bot, 1 kill 26 deaths 0 assists. She would auto attack down lanes from the beginning.
Then, a second teammate in my trilane (I was SK, with a Lion) was a Drow (who was also auto attacking down lanes, zero denies obviously) got 2 kills from the beginning with awesome ganks by me and Lion on a leshrac. This drow finished the game 3-19-11
I now totally understand why icefrog and valve have been limiting their keys, and especially early on, just giving them to pros. When you have one or two absolute noobs the game is already just done.
First and foremost, they need a concede system for a team, then they need an MMR/ranking system so that games are more balanced (which can be easily opened up when there aren't enough people of identical skill, to where it is now), THEN they can start giving out keys to where there are say, 2500 people online at a time, instead of 250-400.

There is a hidden ranking system I believe. The only current problem is that there are so few players in beta that often the rankings in a game vary widely. Also due to the high number of competitive players in beta, chances are unless you are a top player, people will complain about your skill level as well. For this reason, there is already an inhouse league in beta.
I personally have never had players feed as badly as you mentioned, although I certainly have played with players that are far from being the best in skill.
Unless this has been changed, as I haven't touched beta in about a week, there is a "concede" system, in which the entire losing team just leaves. Unfortunately, due to no leaver protection many players just rage quit games.
|
It's been REALLY idfferent since even a week ago, let alone two weeks when I first started. When I was first around there was never more than 250 online at a time, usually 190ish was the average at night time, now there'll be as many as 400 online at a time.
And what you mentioned is NOT a concede system, one person gets an abandon on their account, which apparently they are going to be mindful of later on, and start revoking access to people wtih too many abandons.
|
Think of the ability to leave as a boon for now. I just FF and leave after 30 minutes if the game is too shitty.
|
I'm sure there is a hidden ranking system in place, but it's not going to do any good when there's one game worth of people queing up at any time. There aren't enough players of any given skill group to even come close to making even games. The other problem is lots of players haven't played nearly enough games for the system to be able to make any kind of estimate on a players skill level anyways. Another issue is many people are sharing accounts which further muddles the system.
For now we all just have to live with playing with complete noobs, the up side is we get to play with pros too.
|
I like hon much more. The speed of the game is faster and there's a lot less ricing. Problem just is that when dota2 comes hon will die. So there's no point in learning hon for me
|
I hate god damn ranking systems. It will force me to play carry for the first 200 matches so I can just carry all the games by myself in order to get a master leage type of ranking. I trust no one in online dota games.

DotA2 isn't even released yet and I already see the makings of another angry, nub-unfriendly community from TL itself. Real.
Beta is super small and thus there will be noobs. Just take it in stride and keep playing and be glad that you're even in the goddam beta. There are tons of people who would be willing to play with noobs in DotA2 beta.

I will, definitely. I never understood the noob bashing. People have to learn somewhere - as long as they're willing to learn and be part of the team, just deal with it. One day they'll be good enough to keep up, for now share your skill to help them get there faster.

The first time I played dota was at a lan center, and I got my ass ravaged and made fun off. NOOBS MUST BE BASHED IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LEARN. If you don't bash them, 5vlads teams will exist forever.
