such as making tinker rocket and es ulti hit ethereal units or making doom disable all abilities including passives, or all abilities minus passives, instead of a random smattering dependent on old wc3 mechanics or strange mechanics with bat firefly (can't be cm frostbitten, can't be cycloned, can't set off techies mines, etc) edit: oh and linkens inconsistencies

you dont think they could make tinker's rocket and es ult hit ghosted units if they wanted, I dont see in the slightest how that would make the same more casual player friendly and batrider can be frostbitten in dota2, that was the limitations of war3

you don't see how standardizing unintuitive mechanics would make the game more casual friendly? there's plenty of changes that have been implemented already (weaver geminate interactions, quelling blade interactions, fake bashes etc), but there are still a lot of obscure or unintuitive mechanics that were caused by the limitations of the wc3 engine and could be fixed in dota 2

I would guess that Icefrog deemed that an acceptable balance change, given that Batrider is probably the most common ban in competitive DotA 1 right now. If it's choosing between consistency and making Bat a bit weaker, I don't think Icefrog would have any qualms making him weaker. Did anyone ever actually think he was an EHOME player? On March 13 2012 05:56 epoc wrote: "strange mechanics with firefly"? Isn't he supposed to be flying? The problem is that the list of spells that do and don't affect flying units is very arbitrary because of how it's entirely governed by what the base spells were in WC3, and not any actual pattern involving the spells' mechanics themselves. Honestly speaking, I think all the examples that Dead9 gives are pretty acceptable. In a practical sense, those changes aren't going to affect the game in an intractable way.

I'm actually surprised you can leap out of it. can you in dota 1? i was pretty sure you couldn't O_o e: then again I was never that strong with mechanics.. but it doesn't make sense to disable blinks but enable pseudo blinks heh

Not true, it is pretty damn unintuitive to be able to MOVE while under the effect of a spell that is supposed to make you UNABLE to move, it is not unintuitive to be able to do something else while standing there.

This applied in dota 1 as well. In regards to being unintuitive, it's a computer game... A lot of things are "unintuitive." What matters is that you could always cast spells in frostbite, and leap although a "movement" spell like blink can be cast in frostbite. That's just the way it is.

Orb of Venom not working if you take it after skilling an orb passive is retarded, or Skadi Ranged being not an orb while melee is etc... those are all inconsistencies that have like 0 effect on actual gameplay and are also pretty bad on a mnemonic level. Those personally are some of the things i'd change/remove/fix QB work correctly with all orbs MKB work correctly with all orbs Maelstrom and Germinate work correctly with normal attack instead of only attack command (those three things have been corrected in Dota2 iirc) OoV not a buff placer anymore, remove buff placers, make Deso and Feedback just orbs and Skadi a non-orb. Veno passive get slightly better because u can stack with Deso and Feedback now, but who the fuck got those items on him anyway lol. You can now stack Deso and Feedback with Skadi, meaning those three items are slightly better. Mostly irrelevant. Make basher not reset Orb counter of Ursa Blink working on Pudge and Venge, make so that you can unstuck easily. Blink is more backbreaking on ES or Tide/Eni than on Pudge anyway. Dagger on Venge may be an effectively good item, but it's still not essential and you'd better get other things on a support anyway. Not gamebreaking or anything, it was disabled only for annoyingness. QB working on Kunkka, but bonus damage not against hero on splash (already corrected in Dota2) PRD removed Ulti should have a note to say if they pierce magic immunity (damage never does, but effect can), or just say when they don't since there are only a few ulti that don't penetrate BkB (Tide) Spells should say if they are ensnares (meaning they don't block spellcasting, only moving and attacking) Ensnares should work against Bat (only hero immune to it, bit random) Spectre path finder while on dagger trail should be one of a flying unit, shift-clicking 3000 move points isn't fun and even if you are experienced with the hero the pathfind can sometime derp on you. Damage spells should always say if they are magic damage, pure, physical damage or mixed Dusa splitshot work correctly with Orbs (only on main arrow obviously) Blink strikes should do the damage of a normal attack + eventual bonus (not codeable in Dota1, they currently do a fixed amount of damage) Things like feedback working on melee illusions i'd keep, as it is pretty relevant. Making it non-working would nerf a lot Magina and Lancer and to a lesser extent spectre. Radiance working on illusions should be noted on the item as a special ability of it (it's a 5k item after all).
