I'm not convinced by his statement, that this will remain the same in the future, TI4 is a year away. They changed their policies before TI3. They didn't 'let teams compete in those specifically to prepare for TI3 and will after that point go back to the same things." This is correct interpretation of events. ACE doesn't need to force brand development strategy on the big teams. They will be doing it themselves as it is in their own interest - either because prize money is too small or because the tournaments demand an exclusivity contract out of the teams. For premier tournaments, ACE may be able to influence what terms go in the exclusivity contract, but ACE will not be able to prevent an exclusivity contract from happening. The specific instance of ACE intervention was GEST and AMD and this was to give 2nd tier teams a chance at survival, and it is precisely because of a lack of an amateur scene that supported those teams before. Dota2 was just not out and available for players. The later reversal was to get everyone some more practice. As long as there is an amateur scene, there is no need for ACE intervention. My interpretation is that the Chinese failure is more due to a lack of a vibrant amateur + pub scene rather than top down decrees from ACE. As I understand it China was >> West in dota1 because of more players and a much more competitive pub scene which in turn fueled a more professional and higher skilled pro scene. But valve has been much much slower to release dota2 in china than in the west which effectively killed the Chinese amateur and pub scene, with a majority of players staying with dota1 or moving to lol. The big chinese teams could ride their raw accumulated skill from dota1 for a while but eventually the lack of constant pressure from lower tier teams and pub stars meant that they started falling behind. If Perfect World or Valve can get the chinese to start play dota2 to the same extent as they played dota1, which probably means bringing people _back_ from lol at this point... the big Chinese teams will be fine. If not I dont think it matters what ACE does, they will fall into mediocrity no matter what.

Now we can only hope that the game catches on and reaches a similar level of popularity as Dota 1 has, but it will be tough because of the foothold LoL has already established, as well as the fact that the game simply might not run / play well on old LAN shop PCs, which as far as I understand is a huge part of the gaming culture in China. lan shop pcs in china are not bad and will handle dota2, cuz shitty computer lanshops close down since pcs are very affordable atm. the trouble lies in getting ppl to switch over. i doubt dota2 will ever be as popular as dota1 in china or the rest of the world.

Demon, Jeyo, Universe, and Brax are all generally 2-3 position players, to the best of my knowledge. MSS (despite having already announced that his family has forbidden him from entering competitive DOTA2) is the only person that regularly plays support, perhaps along with Fear, who is an amazing 1 position player. It could very well be that a few of their roles will end up feeling forced and ineffective. We'll have to wait and see.

I haven't watched his stream in a long time, and last time I saw him in competitive, he was 2 position mid. It would certainly help with EG's new lineup if he could be relied upon for support. Now, if only they could get Brax, they'd have a fantastic 3 position who could mop up if Demon started to throw and help clear the space Fear needs in order to become unstoppable. Not meaning to trash Universe's offlane play, but I've regarded Brax with a sort of reverence since that TI3 game where he blocked a pull camp for like ten minutes as Clockwerk.
