HP: 29571 Dodge (with Mantra of Evasion): 40.3% Resist (with One with All): 59% Armor (with Mantra of Evasion and Keen Eye): 70% DPS (Using 2h staff with 105 LoH gem and Breath of Heaven DPS buff): 21414
From what I can tell, these stats don't seem to suck that bad for the level I am playing at, and indeed I have no problem moving through the Act 2 stages basic mobs, but it seems every blue pack is a 5-7 graveyard rush that leaves me rage quitting. I have tried sacrificing DPS for more HP/Dodge/Resist, but then I survive another second or two and still die anyway. I am getting two or three shotted by some of these blues and I don't know what the answer is. I have tried stacking pure defensive skills like crippling wave but it still doesn't seem to help. Any ideas on what I can do to progress? Or are my stats actually bad?
switch to a 1.4 or 1.5 1h (fist/sword/dagger) with loh/dex/vit and a shield with some combination of dex/vit/ares/+%block. and as someone mentioned above, use the raw numerical values when listing stats, because the %s only apply to same-level mobs and everything in inferno is 61+ (61 for a1, 62 for a2, 63 for a3/4), which changes the calculations. 59% reduction via resists against level 60 mobs sounds pretty low.
as far as playstyle goes, you can't straight-tank indefinitely until you outgear the act you're in. bounce in and out of melee range, taking advantage of your CDs.

Thanks for the advice guys. I bought a 1h and shield today and cleared Act 2! Took Beliel down first shot solo!

Alright, before I end up trying to test this myself, does anyone know -That sweeping wind ticks the same number of times as your attacks per second -Mystic ally affected by attack speed? What I have noticed -Crit/crit dmg DOES not affect sweeping wind damage after it's stacked to 3. -Mystic ally DOES seem to benefit from crit and crit dmg. (Not his sweeping wind aura)

The drops aren't any better than act 3 (or so it seems), and there are no good runs because act bosses don't drop loot besides diablo. Getting 5 stack neph before diablo is a chore, as those elite meteor dudes are very, very hard for monks(but you might be able to skip most of it, not sure). As for MF gear, you should definitely have a complete suit. Equip it for chests at least, and some of it for goblins/elites. Ally is really good for this, mostly for siegebreaker, as he'll keep the aggro while you equip your 200+mf, resulting in 1+ rare per boss on average. It's worth dying every now and then. Resolve is pretty useless without Sweeping Wind or at least Air Ally. Might as well get transcendence. FoT is just better than everything else at the moment, and will be a necessity postpatch unless they increase the attack speed of everything else massively (20%+). On a final note, I finally sold my 25% ias sword,880dps 900lohit for 250$ (bought 4M three weeks ago ), seeing as they're reducing attack speed by 50%+ next patch, on all items apparently (rumors from test servers). My shield is going for 100+, I sold most of my poison gear for 20-30$ a pop, and I'm dropping my monk. There is no way they're gonna buff the monk enough to make up for AS nerf, which hits monk the hardest because we lose LoHit, damage, stunlock, teleport and spirit. And we're already pretty weak, farming-wise. Good luck guys, it's been fun ! Excellent post. And it's good to see I'm not the only one selling everything also. My current Monk was fucking awesome and it's really a shame they are fucking us over so badly with the nerf just when I get everything right and can farm Act 3 comfortably and fairly fast. I have no intention of starting a new character so I'm done. GL all. smh. I wouldn't mind you going out by selling your stuff, making money on the game and leaving with a profit, but this.... This is quitting. The monk is a weapon of the gods. Act like it. This dramaqueen/complaintrain solves nothing about the problem. First we know nothing of the actual data from the next patch, only speculation and data-mining. We have figured out one way of playing the monk (LoH, high resists/armor, high AS), are there not others? You forget along with the alleged AS nerf there difficulty curve is lessening. Monsters are not going to receive the bonus damage per person in the game they did previously, roll a group and figure it out together. We will find a way to improve our gameplay, or we will find another way to play the monk. That is what will happen. To Pwere and Hollow, im glad you made most likely around $400 dollars on a $60 dollar game. You are a man after my own heart. I will continue to farm and sell gear to make money on this game to try and make the same profit as you both have. This patch is not the end. This doomsday sentiment needs to be stopped. This is a monk discussion thread not a monk QQ thread. We have no idea what this next patch will bring but we will find a way to solve it. This is what we have done in the past when we hit the brick wall known as inferno act 2. This is what we will continue to do.
I am aware that I'm just quitting. I'm just not very motivated to play as it is, it is very repetitive and I haven't found anything worth something in a long while now. The problem with this patch for me is that not only did I build around attack speed for the life on it stat, but I also built around it for the life per spirit spent. This means that I had to sacrifice ATS on my weapon because I wanted one with 800+ LoH and 50+ LpSS. I got a good Fist Weapon with those two stats but of course it has no ATS %. When you start off with ATS % on your weapon, everything else gets multiplied, so it's a lot better than not having it. This means that once the nerf hits (and I am confident that it will indeed be significant) my build will be ruined. The only thing that could save me would be to find this same Fist (or better) which also rolled a high ATS %. Such a Fist would be the best weapon in the game for a Monk, and I am currently broke in the game, and not willing to spend money on it. I have made no money on D3 as of yet, I have put my gear for sale but nothing is currently selling. The point is not that there will be another way to play a monk, but that it will no longer be efficient to do so for farming. And I am not willing to wait around for them to buff us somehow to compensate for this nerf.
|
My main issue is that I spent millions and hours to build my stuff. I just can't wake up a morning and see that I'm no more able to farm act 3/4 because of a patch. I was aware about AS nerf, but nerf doesn't mean kill all items with IAS. I was thinking about a cap, diminishing return, or 20/25% nerf, not 50/60%. This is a huge nerf on many aspects of the monk : dps, spirit generation, loh, mobility and so survivability. Moreover, I like AS because it makes you feel dynamic and powerfull, not lethargic guy who hits slowly. AS is fun in play and animation.
And frankly now, if I keep playing I will try crit chance / damage. So what if in the end blizzard doesn't like the way you hit for 500k damages ? Are they going to put a huge nerf aswell ? No I just don't like this way to balance the game. This is brutal and done without any kind of consideration for players.

Hey guys, I really hit a wall, I know where my problem is, but I can't find a correct approach to it. I just finished Act 2, was more or less a breeze, some champpacks were hard, but most of them were quite easy.
Here is my equip, and my stats: http://imgur.com/ncVHQ I'm currently using: Serenity (4sec) Mystic Ally (earth) BoH (dmg buff) MoE (backlash) FoT (Lightning Flash) Deadly Reach (Foresight) I normally would use Sweeping Wind with Bladestorm, but I switched it for Foresight, as I don't have enough dps without it. (15k with BoH and Foresight) Passives: Transendence SIT OWE I can quite confidently survive even though I just have 24k life, but I can't get any mobs down, unsurprisingly - here is my problem. (I'm on a budget - no RMAH and hardly any Gold right now, as I wanted to boost my resistances) Should I switch my weapon to a more DPS heavy one with less LoH, if I want a weapon with more DPS, I need a budget one, I can't afford any AS/LoH/Socket combinations, or should I try to aim for more Dex/Vit? I also think my armor/resistances are quite low, but with lpss from transendence and tzo krins and LoH I can manage to stay alive most of the time, which doesn't bring me any profit because I can't kill, yet I fear that I won't survive, if I give away my LoH weapon. I'm open for any suggestions, I really don't know what I should do next, as really anything I buy really cuts my gold. Is my skillbuild any good? Am I having the right approach? What should I switch? Please help me!

If you can confidently survive with that build, you could probably use MoE-Hard target and FoT-Thunderclap instead. Thunderclap gives massive LoH procs due to AoE and single target interactions(I honestly don't know what goes on, but it double or triple procs quite often), in addition to being very high dps. Sweeping wind is probably still higher dps than deadly reach, regardless of the rune.
|
Sweeping wind gives you more DPS than foresight..... 18% damage gets you a nice shiny number that's bigger on the DPS sheet but bladestorm is like a 50% DPS increase more on AoE.
Use hard target on mantra, keen eye on deadly reach. I prefer air ally than earth ally but that doesn't matter. I currently like to drop breath of heaven to get air ally/sweeping wind+firestorm//deadly reach keen eye/FoT thunderclap. Also the heal on serenity is what I'd go for over the 1 second. I'd say get high life on hit without droppping below 800 DPS weapon. Try to up resists and armour, everything else stat wise is fine I guess.

what are your thoughts on a justice lantern? I just bought a dex one for 6 mill. Beats my 78 LoH 28 resist ring heh. I'm thinking about getting a good helm of command when the aspd nerf hits, but im afraid of losing life on spirit is gonna reduce my sustain.
I'm using a 1.39 aspd 700 LoH, 1k dps mace right now (16% aspd) not sure if i should switch that out.
Also I think I should switch my tal-rashas out. Sad it was a 667 def one, with 78 dex

Am I ready for inferno act 4? I switched up my build a lot, lost a ton of dex, dps, and HP - but doubled my resist, attackspeed, and LoH.
|
Im stuck in act 2 Inferno. anyone got idea on what gear I should get. I have high resist already.
|
act 4 should be a walk in the park with those stats. before the attack speed nerf LOL

Did the attack speed nerf happen yet?
|
atk speed reduction (almost) across the board on all items, existing and new, won't happen until 1.03. but really, if you can do act 3, you can do act 4.
|
So I'm completely fucked once that happens? I've been stacking LoH/ias
|
i guess you'd benefit more from armor even if it loses u some res. or do u have anything in that pic ? enchantress, hard target etc? if not then 6.1k is not bad so nvm me ^^
|
you won't be fucked -- if anything each % point of ias will become proportionately more valuable. your survivability will definitely drop, but monks are going to be the ones hit hardest by the ias nerf and i honestly don't think it'll be that big of a deal combined with the inferno nerf.
|
Your %ias will be the same value you'll just have way less of it. If you get tons of dex and crit andcrit chance its MORE valuable but you have to sacrifice AS for those stats.

Can monks clear Inferno with less than 35mil of gear?
I've been leveling my alt, up to hell it's been really easy(granted I'm ridiculously geared for a level 50) but I was wondering just HOW significant the playstyle will change(obviously gear will be costly).
However, I have a friend who is in Act 3 Inferno(just suicide-ran through Act 2, so I wouldn't really consider him in Act 3 legitimately). He claims that it's impossible for monks to progress unless you have 40 mil worth of gear, 1k dps weaps with 800 LoH, etc etc, spends more time whining than playing the class and improving. Is it justified whine, or is he just incorrectly geared/not putting in the time to get better?
Thanks in advance
|
lol, suiciding running through act 2 is retarded because act 2 is much easier than act 3 for melees. Maybe ranged classes are different though.
Clear inferno with <35 mil worth it gear? Unless you get REALLY REALLY cheap gear I doubt it, but you don't need 1k dps weapon, I'm using 860 DPS weapon with 747 LoH to clear inferno.
