I'm using foresight to farm act 3 since I'm pretty comfortable there, but I'm planning to try FoT. My main problem is with act4. I mean to farm it, I need some dps (to kill diablo without risking to lose my nephalem stacks, and it makes fight so much easier) so I would use FoT, but then I'm lacking survivability. I guess in the end I'm still not ready to farm easily act 4.
I Tried this build : http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aYXgkh!ZUX!Zcbaaa
it was pretty cool to switch mantra according to the situation. Now I'm trying with deadly reach keen eye, FoT thunderclap and hard target.

No mystic ally or sweeping wind, you don't think both of them would be better than having overawe?
|
Why would you want to farm act4? The drops aren't any better than act 3 (or so it seems), and there are no good runs because act bosses don't drop loot besides diablo. Getting 5 stack neph before diablo is a chore, as those elite meteor dudes are very, very hard for monks(but you might be able to skip most of it, not sure).
As for MF gear, you should definitely have a complete suit. Equip it for chests at least, and some of it for goblins/elites. Ally is really good for this, mostly for siegebreaker, as he'll keep the aggro while you equip your 200+mf, resulting in 1+ rare per boss on average. It's worth dying every now and then.
Resolve is pretty useless without Sweeping Wind or at least Air Ally. Might as well get transcendence. FoT is just better than everything else at the moment, and will be a necessity postpatch unless they increase the attack speed of everything else massively (20%+).
On a final note, I finally sold my 25% ias sword,880dps 900lohit for 250$ (bought 4M three weeks ago ), seeing as they're reducing attack speed by 50%+ next patch, on all items apparently (rumors from test servers). My shield is going for 100+, I sold most of my poison gear for 20-30$ a pop, and I'm dropping my monk. There is no way they're gonna buff the monk enough to make up for AS nerf, which hits monk the hardest because we lose LoHit, damage, stunlock, teleport and spirit. And we're already pretty weak, farming-wise.
Good luck guys, it's been fun !

Didnt find meteor elites to be that hard compared to subjugators with nasty affixes. At least you can dodge meteors. Or some of the nasty double clubbed melees with hard affixes.
|
Just sold my some of my aspd gear, and replaced it with crit/crit dmg gear. Does slightly less dps, but it feels so much more sluggish and weak because I get way more spirit starved, less healing(big), and fewer teleports/interrupts. I really feel like blizzard could've targeted nerfs better. DH's will survive doing 20% less damage because their ability to survive isn't related to hitting the LoH/damage intake equilibrium point. Inferno, assuming you're past the point where you get bursted, essentially got half your IAS% harder with the next patch.

Anyone considered blazing fists rune on WoTHF over thunderclap when nerf comes in? I used it a bit before, might be more viable now. Also guys, air ally, 2% chance to get 100 spirit, amounts to 2 spirit per hit average, very nice spirit increase and with the patch coming in I hope you learn to love him. He does more DPS than all the others (should do anyway, sweeping wind aura OP) and earth ally is crappy 10% useless stat and a decent taunt.

Wouldn't thunderclap be even MORE attractive as a move once the nerf comes in because of the innate 140% attackspeed?

Currently i am running on 31k HP, 6400 Armor. 18k DPS, 659 Resist. Act 3 normal mobs pretty much one shot me any recommendation on what i should increase? I can kill beliai/Kulle with 5 stacks with some effort, Should i continue to farm them? AH is pretty much overprice nowadays ......

Excellent post. And it's good to see I'm not the only one selling everything also. My current Monk was fucking awesome and it's really a shame they are fucking us over so badly with the nerf just when I get everything right and can farm Act 3 comfortably and fairly fast. I have no intention of starting a new character so I'm done. GL all.

smh. I wouldn't mind you going out by selling your stuff, making money on the game and leaving with a profit, but this.... This is quitting. The monk is a weapon of the gods. Act like it. This dramaqueen/complaintrain solves nothing about the problem.
First we know nothing of the actual data from the next patch, only speculation and data-mining. We have figured out one way of playing the monk (LoH, high resists/armor, high AS), are there not others? You forget along with the alleged AS nerf there difficulty curve is lessening. Monsters are not going to receive the bonus damage per person in the game they did previously, roll a group and figure it out together. We will find a way to improve our gameplay, or we will find another way to play the monk. That is what will happen.
To Pwere and Hollow, im glad you made most likely around $400 dollars on a $60 dollar game. You are a man after my own heart. I will continue to farm and sell gear to make money on this game to try and make the same profit as you both have.
This patch is not the end. This doomsday sentiment needs to be stopped. This is a monk discussion thread not a monk QQ thread. We have no idea what this next patch will bring but we will find a way to solve it. This is what we have done in the past when we hit the brick wall known as inferno act 2. This is what we will continue to do.

I'm farming act 3 for sure and have a full mf gear. But still I'm planning to be able to do quick diablo runs, unless there is really no difference between act 3 and act 4. Am I fooling myself or the game stops at siegebreaker for the moment ?

Ok thank you, that doesn't make any sense to me, but I guess it's not the first time I don't get a design's choice from Blizzard.

Maybe, yeah. The way I'm thinking about it though is everyones going to be using almost no attack speed and all dex/crit/citdmg for d mg on gear and that 15% will be a massive DPS increase but then so will thunderclap lol. WoTHF still does insane damage though the issue is getting away with using it.

Hey guys, been reading this thread for awhile, but this is my first post here. I need some help understanding why I am having such a hard time in Act 2 Inferno. I don't get to play more than an hour a day, but I have managed to get my stats to the following:
HP: 29571 Dodge (with Mantra of Evasion): 40.3% Resist (with One with All): 59% Armor (with Mantra of Evasion and Keen Eye): 70% DPS (Using 2h staff with 105 LoH gem and Breath of Heaven DPS buff): 21414
From what I can tell, these stats don't seem to suck that bad for the level I am playing at, and indeed I have no problem moving through the Act 2 stages basic mobs, but it seems every blue pack is a 5-7 graveyard rush that leaves me rage quitting. I have tried sacrificing DPS for more HP/Dodge/Resist, but then I survive another second or two and still die anyway. I am getting two or three shotted by some of these blues and I don't know what the answer is. I have tried stacking pure defensive skills like crippling wave but it still doesn't seem to help. Any ideas on what I can do to progress? Or are my stats actually bad?

what's your life on hit total? Also using a 2 hander is generally really bad and diffcuilt. Try 1 hander and shield its way better. Also list exact number values for resist, armour, life on hit, nobody memorizes the %'s. I'd say watch your attack speed but it's getting nerfed hard.

Wow, thats a great shield, 20% block too
