I run a similar build ( http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#fRjdUP!WVU!cZYZca ). Basically, I run in with soul harvest and pop soul harvest -> confusion -> fetish ambush -> run away and spam bears which basically kills everything around me. Adjust as you generally have less cds available.
I've got act 3 on farm with around 600 allres, 30k hp, 32k dps (50k w/ soul harvest), focusing on crit & crit dmg for damage. You need at least 2 items with mana reg if you're going to use pierce the veil, and no increased attack speed items at all. Even if you run dry at times vs extra health mobs, remember that it's 700% dmg per cast so it's generally okay if you only cast it half the time =)
Most important is to be mindful of the cast time of the bears (especially when kiting) and also learn how to use the environment in order to gain extra range and more precision on the bears.
Edit - well act 3 on farm might be overstepping it a bit. I've finished it and I can do it without skipping any mobs altho I die 2-3 times on the badass packs.

It is? I am a wizard, but have a 60 WD. I have around 450 AR (no armor buff) with 22k hp, 25k dps. Is this transferable to my WD? Im not sure I would enjoy my WD at all even with some decent gear, wizard is so awesome. I actually felt inferno was way easier then hell with 700k in upgrades only.
Is LoH gear viable for a WD? I have that on my wizard now as Im slowly changing to melee arcane on crit style.
I loved how crazy the WD was though, with bears in mind and all sorts of crazy totems and hexes :D But when I hit inferno with it for the first time, I was raped by white mobs.. I felt forced to use splinters, which was really really lame.

I finished Act 1 Inferno using this build: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#afPZUX!YVb!acZaZb
Switched back to a pure splinters build though since bears wasn't doing it for me anymore in Act 2. This build has more consistent mana regen thanks to Spiritual Attunement and Gruesome Feast which lets you regen mana when picking up health globes. Fetish Army doesn't cost any mana and is one of the best spells the WD has so I try to have them out as much as possible against elites (hence reduced CD rune). Rune for Spirit Walk is preference really, but I went with mana regen. Thanks to that, I sometimes used Spirit Walk offensively simply to extend my bears spam by a few seconds.
Edit: I personally hate VQ builds because of the cooldowns required meaning I can't get out of sticky situations as often, which I rely on a lot as a WD (vortex, jailer or teleport elites, etc).

Well the basic idea behind vision quest builds is to have 1 long-CD skill (fetish army or voodoo), 3 utilities that don't overlap each other if you spam the all at once (i.e. not a good idea to have zombie wall + grasp of the dead or horrify + mass confusion), spirit walk, and most likely zombie bears since it's by far the most powerful.
Vs normal packs you can just fingerroll your 3 utility spells + spirit walk and spam away. Vs elites you activate your big CD spell + your 3 utility spell and then leave spirit walk up for when you need it.

Is having both wall of zombies and grasp of the dead really that bad? I'm using both just fine and I don't ever feel like I'm wasting a grasp when I use it while my wall is active, or that I'm wasting a wall, while my grasp is active. I don't know. Maybe it's my playstyle, I don't see myself gaining more using soul harvest/MC.

Level 56. Currently I have: Poison dart - Splinters Locust swarm - Devouring swarm 1.Spirit walk - Jaunt 2.Soul harvest - Siphon 3.Zombie Charger - Zombie Bears 4.Gargantuan - Big stinker Passives are:Jungle fortitude,Bad medicine, Spirit vessel
Splinters is just the best attack, does poison damage. Devouring swarm gives me mana for the large amount of mana that can be used by zombie bears. jaunt to get away from battles etc... siphon heals me, also increases damage by a ton. zombie bears does tons of damage, great for big groups as well (does poison damage too). big stinker has a poison cloud around him. My passives make all enemies deal less damage(because almost all my attacks are poison based. jungle fortitude is a must, you take way less damage. and spirit vessel reduces coldowns and lets you live and get away from lots of cases where you might die or are in trouble. I'm just finishing act 2 on hell. Currently I do 5070 damage normally and with soul harvest(5) I do 7791 damage. also i have 2091 armour. And I plow through almost all enemies. What do you think of my build and all that jazz? ps.

You're missing grasp of the dead + unbreakable grasp rune; 80% slow is real good.
You don't need the 2 DR passives unless you're in HC. Better off using PTV and something else like SA, or VQ if you wanna go mass bear spam.
Soul harvest is useful up to Inferno A1. Prepare to ditch it because you'll probably die whilst trying to collect souls.
Just quickly level to 60 to gain access to much better items. You should easily get at least 25k dps without breaking the bank.

More like it's just unnecessary. Some people like it because they do a lot of AoE damage by their own virtue in addition to being strong cc, but since you're spamming vision quest AoE spell it's a little redundant and WD has so many strong spells she could be using instead.

I am looking for opinions for a inferno belial specfic build.
i used splinters/fetish army/ big bad voodoo/ unbreakable grasp/ spirit walk and 1 more cc depending on the situation when i was playing on softcore when i speed cleared inferno with my 4man team. I was used mostly for cc and utility, i took bad medi/ pierce the veil and spirit vessel for passives. i believe that in my time away from the game however, there must be many more viable and effective builds out there available.
now i am in act 2 inferno on hardcore. took a break for nearly 1.5 months due to exams and assignments before returning to play. i am chickening out at belial in fear of losing my character (my team has lost 7 60s so far). anyone have any good recommendations for solo or group builds for belial? i was thinking of running voodoo/fetish/spiritwalk/gargantuan/grasp/bears with vq/mana attune and spirit vessel if i can build up enough resist in my gear to afford dropping bad medi/ jungle fort for solo. probably keep bad medi instead of mana attune and switch grasp for splint for a group since i wont be needing to crowd control as much with 'tanks' around. with the current gear available in hardcore i highly doubt i will be able to get much more then 25k dps and 500 resist while keeping 40+k hp.
open to any opinions and why you think it would work well for the belial fight in specific.

If you want to use fetish, use the legion of daggers rune. In latter stages of the game, fetishes basically act like a meatshield to absorb hits; the more the merrier. Some people don't use this rune because of the long cooldown, same reason some don't use mass confusion.
This is my build: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#aZURXP!WVb!aaaZbb
Edit: Oh yeah. If you use hex, be prepared for the fucking retarded AI of the fetish shaman. If he gets summoned on the "wrong side", he won't walk over to hex the mob charging at you; you have to run behind it. And sometimes he glitches at edges of maps. So cast him and RUN.

Aside from the obvious spirit walk and splinter darts:
- Horrify with terror aspect rune (+100% bonus armor for 8 seconds): this is basically WD's energy armor that also provides strong CC to boot. 8 second double-armor out of 18 is pretty damn good and it's especially strong vs Belial who telegraphs all his attacks. Will save you from getting 1-shot from a stray meteor attack if you happen not to dodge it (don't know about the fist attack since I usually spirit walk to avoid getting hit by the 2-handed fist attack).
- Hex with jinx: this completely facerapes phase 2 belial (and incidentally also Zultan Kulle) if you make sure hex is "targetting" him. It'll basically lock him in chicken/pig mode for 90% of the time when he's alone.

So my dad is stuck on inferno butcher with his WD. I want him to beat it on his own, but unfortunately he's rather lacking in the mechanics department. Do I need to gear him further or is it just not possible with his level of mechanics.
For reference, his stats. Tankiness is not an option because he WILL get hit, and even when nothing unavoidable butcher does takes off more than 20% of his health, he still manages to fail the fight =/.
|
this does not look like a gear or stats problem... as you mentioned, he has to work on his mechanics or he should try a bunch of other skills. imho zombie wall and grasp are ineffective vs. the butcher. i am doing fine with a mana-refilling build based on vision quest (passive) and fire bats (dire bats) as the damage dealing skill.
|
Your dads armor is super low. Other than that, you don't need super mechanics to properly fight him. The butcher gives telltale signs of when he is doing something.
Points his axe - will throw his hook Dances from side to side - about to power slam you Shoots flames in a straight line - will charge in that line and then throw his chains out right after.
Of course, he could always abuse the bottom gate where the flames won't hit you, if the enrage timer is his problem.
|
Yeah, I beat the butcher with similar stats and I'm not the most skilled player. As long as you learn to avoid his attacks he should be able to do it.

I did go from WD too Wizard pretty fast, as I realized how boring it was to play with splinters. I love my wizard really much, its a very nice class, but would be cool to test the WD again.

Skills: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#hbUXZQ!ZXV!bZcYcY The non VQ Tank version allows him to have mechanical flaws (like miss CDs). Killing might take a while but you just can't die. Ench is best companion in my opinion (more armor - makes you more tanky).
Btw. i'm now at 44% block (3.7k-4.7k), ~48k HP, ~1500Lps, ~1000LoH, 15k DPS, ~700Resi 4.2k Armor (without Ench Buff). Just like this style - still would like to replace Spiderqueen with Garg (looking forward to pet buff).
