Blizzard should either implement these (and other good maps such as ICCUP maps) to their ladder pool OR make 2 different ladder map pools and have players choose which map pool they want to play on.

1. The normal one that will barely change like with any other Blizzard RTS.
2. The competitive one, which will change frequently and implement these type of custom maps.

This would allow pro players to practice on ladder and other random people to play good maps as well while still keeping the normal ladder pool for people who prefer it (IE nub friendly).

I'm aware it would split the community a little bit but I think it's safe to say 99% (or just 100%) of the competitive community would be playing the second map pool.

They would need to work out a system to choose which maps get rotated for new ones and how often but I don't think that would be too complicated.

I think Blizzard should just give the people what they want and get rid of maps like DQ, Steppes, Blistering.

Sadly, there are a lot of people who actually enjoy all 3 maps. People in diamond - specifically a few in the 1000 - 1900 range - that I talk to actually love the heck out of at least 1 of those 3 ( usually Steppes oddly ). It takes several games in which I play as abusively as imaginably possible to make them understand why these maps are so bad. I think there would be more outcry ( and subsequent action ) if people on the NA ladder were bigger jerks about map imbalance.

But showing someone the 2 gate rush on Steppes that you can do when they spawn in the northern position and you put the gates up above the ramp in PvZ usually ends that opinion pretty fast. Or a 7 pool ling rush that is not even close to all-in because Steppes is an awful map.

I like some of these maps. They seem to be a huge improvement over the ones they are replacing. Some of these seem to be as large as Shakuras. Hopefully GOM takes this as a first step and comes up with 15-20 good maps which promote macro based play and blizzard follows suit by making these standard on the ladder.
Not sure why they are not evaluating some of the ICCUP maps which seem to be great in that regard also.

Just played 2 TvTs on Aiur Garden. It was pretty fun, just like BW. Expand anywhere you want, not to mention you have your nat and third close to your main. And contains weren't a problem, there was so much space. I'm pretty sure new strats will appear since it's so safe to even double expand on these maps. Can't wait to see the Code S play on them.

Aiur Garden looks fucking sick and I've always enjoyed playing on Crossfire (1v1 my friends there quite a bit).

Is it just me or is Biohazzard OP as hell for terran will ALL THOSE HIGH GROUND ABUSE? Containing a zerg could not be easier. Then again this is all speculation from my shitty overview of the map.

what the fuck is with map makers fetish of putting rocks in every possible expansion place.

the only reason they were used in bw was to block paths and ramps. there is completely no reason at all to start throwing them at every expansion.

Whats up with the rocks at half the expos on Tal'Darim? (It doesnt show on the pic, but when you play it they're there). I find that kinda dumb, though I do like the rocks on the ramp to your main, kinda letting you decide how wide you want your choke to be. Even with the rocks, i think the map is awesome.

I agree that maps need to be bigger, but some of these maps are just so big that the entire way the game is played will change dramatically

I advise everybody to at least give the maps a try before commenting too much! Also.. keep in mind that these are in no way final versions.. they have gone through many revisions as Gisado keeps them in the rotation during the star challenge.^^

Do you know if players are liking them? It'd be interesting to know how they're going down with top level players and pros.

I think it's an attempt to prevent zerg to mass expand in huge maps

I can't wait to see how these will play out. You can afford almost everything off of 3 bases. Combined with a huge long rush distance, we're either going to see epic macro games or a lot more proxies.

I haven't read this entire thread but has a member of the iCCup map team contacted GOM stating they have some professionally built custom maps they'd like to be considered?

Yes and thats how it should be. From my viewing of the GSL it seems that people seem to like 2 types of games
1. The long macro game with 3+ bases and lots of army trading.
2. The very short games where one player straight up cheeses. This is because this cheese has a lot more risk to it and usually creates for some fairly wacky games with a lot of ooh and aaah moments.
The games which are generally disliked are those 1 based timing pushes that occur around the 6:30-9 minute mark which usually result in a game with 5 minutes of buildup followed by a quick battle which is over before it started. These games are dull and a lot of the times the losing person loses because of a tiny mistake which is not very apparent to the casual viewer.
Hopefully the larger maps should get rid of these types of games and make it more appealing as a view sport.
BTW a side affect of these larger maps that we haven't seen here is the emergence of a lot more harass play using drop ships or other means since there is a 10 minute or so window where people just macro up. Someone will figure out soon enough like in BW that they can get a bigger advantage long term by harassing and killing a few workers or key buildings.

As the OP said if you want to publish the maps just PM me. Its only 4 Mouse-Clicks so whoever wants to do that in SEA go ahead. :&
Fruitseller: I feel like it's a good strategy[6Pool]. I had a lot of strategies, but I thought about it a lot and decided to 6 pool. Other people told me to 6 pool too
