Actually the tax code specifically lists professional football leagues under 501(c)(6). Its basically the equivalent to the Chamber of Commerce or the SBA. Its also unclear whether or not the NFL would pay taxes even if it was not a 501(c) organization. Major League Baseball re-incorporated as a for-profit recently and maintained no tax burden (the NBA has never utilized 501(c)(6)) and now has far fewer reporting requirements.
Its a red herring.

I'm curious how the ineligible lineman rule change affects punt formations next year, kinda kills the spread

I never understood the ability to "report as eligible". Its kind of a bad rule because it requires the defense to pay attention to the PA and Refs while the offense can basically be snapping at any time while making their own substitutions and in a loud stadium.
There should be like a headband they have to wear, or something.

doesnt the player have to report to the ref? so you basically already see that player who's not eligible talk to the ref. and im sure you can't snap the ball before the ref has had a chance to tell the D who is and isnt eligible.

That is the idea, however, the practice is that the referee announces it using his microphone over the PA just like they do for penalties, but without the entire game being stopped and without the crowd hushing. This is basically at the same time the Defensive captain is getting the play from his Defensive Coordinator (and trying to block out crowd noise) and subbing. There is a reason Bellicheck did it, and its not because Runningbacks are great blockers and Linemen great receivers, its because they hope that it gets lost in the shuffle, it happened to the Bears (haha) a few times and even Trestman was smart enough to do it to teams.

heard there was a receiver from Florida somewhere...central florida u or something like that...anyways he ran a 4.22 40

I gotta tell you, I hate cheaters. I loathe cheating in any form, and I hated the CHEATRIOTS when they got caught a few years ago...but the anti-Patriots haterade has gotten so loud that I feel like I'm turning into a Patriots apologist.

It's cool shit to hate the guys on top, and the Patriots have been at or near the top for a decade now, so entire generations have grown up hating them. It comes with the territory. It doesn't help that they were dumb enough to cheat so they gave an excuse to the haters, but so it goes I suppose.

I'm of the same mind. It doesn't hurt that my HS mascot was also the Patriots...

Our discussion was more regarding eligible/ineligible jersey numbers and IFAF rules differ from NFL but I imagine that it's a similar non-issue.

yeah I love seeing some fat fuck lineman all the sudden line up at te for a surprise, but the whole process of telling the ref and having to hear it over the PA in a loud stadium at the last second after a play is called or you're fucked is pretty shitty

illegal for an offensive player with an eligible number to declare himself ineligible and line up outside the “core” of the formation.

You must hate a lot of teams then? I think the Patriots are easily the best run team in football over the last decade or so. I think the Seahawks are going to be the one for the next decade though.

Nah, just the Pats and Steelers kek. Chargers can beat any other team.
They did beat the Seahawks!
|
Nah, Steelers have basically been "just barely good enough to win in down years" for pretty much every championship. Lynn Swann catching a ball flat on his back, etc.
