So after the talk of the falcons losing a "high draft pick" it's only a 5th rounder.

Eagles are looking like one of my friend's fantasy teams. Snag a bunch of injury prone guys and hope they make it through. If they survive, it's a ridiculously strong team. If they don't, well, hopefully the waiver wire is friendly. =d

I'm in the camp that the Colts were gifted two generational talents and haven't done a ton to put players around them, but I won't fault Grigson for trying. Prior to this offseason, trading picks for players was almost never seen, and Grigson made two relatively large splashes: Richardson and Davis. While the Richardson trade has been a catastrophe in hindsight, I remember thinking at the time that the Browns, not the Colts, were the ones who had been fleeced. Less than 18 months after Richardson was drafted 3rd overall (as "the surest thing since Peterson") the Colts managed to acquire him for the 22nd pick (or something in that range). You can't judge the outcome, only the process.

Addressing Johnson and Gore: I agree with Hawk on Johnson but disagree on Gore. Johnson is teetering between two outcomes: declining skills due to his age or a rebirth after escaping a terrible situation. Because of the points Hawk mentioned, I think it's the former. There was underlying ability that was crushed by incompetent quarterback play. As for Gore, I think that there are very, very few RBs who have performed well at 32 and even fewer at 33 and 34, so that one is going to look bad in a few years unless he retires, though cutting him after the second year isn't exactly the nuclear option. It's the way the Colts have tried that I've been faulting. I think it was the wrong move to give a first round pick for a running back just because he was drafted third. He's still a running back. What another team drafted a player for is irrelevant. Part of the reason I compared Colts management to Bills management is that the Bills just traded a lot of draft picks to move up for Sammy Watkins last year. Those sort of moves are the most anti-Belichick moves a franchise can make.

Can someone tell me what this rule was about? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000482496/article/browns-gm-ray-farmer-suspended-4-games-for-texting

Hadn't heard of it before now. What's it for?

My point was more that he was drafted 3rd overall because he was seen as a freak and thereby was still being evaluated as something close to that.

As a Bills fan, the Watkins trade was inexcusable. Just awful.
Who's the bigger scrub, the scrub, or the scrub who loses to him?

I know the chances are slim, but what if AP did go to the Cowboys? Would that make them SB contenders?

I doubt it. Only under very rare (Seattle) circumstances does a Running Back make that kind of difference. Dallas' offensive line is at the level such that any dollar above an average 3rd rounder is better spent elsewhere.

I kind of agree but I kind of don't. That line could have any mook running for 1000-1200 yds behind it, sure. But as much as he's an aging, child beating piece of shit, AP is still probably a top 5 rusher who could probably flirt with like 1600 behind that line. Even if he did not, the mere threat of him back there requires a safety to cheat on the run a bit more.

But as stated, they've got holes elsewhere that need addressing and in a cap world why spend on rb when you can get passable production at a cheaper rate?

Breshad Perriman - ran 4.22 to 4.30 at his pro day at 6'2", 215lb which is insane.

Yeah it's ridiculous but I read drop rate was really high in college. I see people making comparisons between him and Troy Williamson or Stephen Hill. It seems like everyone has him going in the first though

It'll be weird not having him in the league but I'm glad he's not trying to string out his career a little longer on other random teams.

I thought he still had a few years on his contract...
