Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts. |

The rest of the matches have been pretty good, the biggest difference I have noticed is the amount of communication which happens, and that generally people really want to try to win, which for me is a big improvement.
The rating to me feels about where I felt I was too, which is nice. How can you know it placed you where you felt? Atm I know that some pros almost reach 6k and the average TLer has around 4k+. The numbers steam gave early are wrong or am I missing something? If you were only reading forum you would have the impression that back in sc2 the average TLer was in master or at least diamond league... Eventhough it's expected that people on TL would be better than the average i still think that there is a heavy declaration bias. Also everybody was playing in very high or top 10 page games.. I'm 3.5k, which apparently would put me around the top 25% of the whole player base if i'm not mistaken. In reality i'm probably in the average for someone playing ranked though as a lot of people don't play it
personnaly i feel like i'm at where i should be as far as MMR is concerned, i'm better than the average dota player that just plays casually, but i'm worse than people that are actually good at this game if that makes sense :D

Yeah I'm just waiting for an official updated percentiles to (hopefully) come out from Valve, so I can satisfy my e-peen stroking needs ever since I've been playing more Dota than Hon.

oh shit we cant use console command anymore? I played a game the other day and got like 4k with uncertainy of 900 or something. So far it is the most convincing ranking system for me, since i stacked too much with casual friends so the main account is bascially screwed by it still has 4k with that high uncertainty i guess lol. Too bad i wont be able to check my smurf ranking with console now it should be at higher rank and lower uncertainty and then i will be sure about how legit is this ranking from valve.

I got 3350 rating after not tryharding in placement. 5w5l basically. I am godawful at trying to win, I just play Dazzle and never touch OP heroes ( Lifestealer, Storm spirit etc..).
I am hoping Valve releases some percentages on ratings and stuff, because I have no idea what 3350 actually means. Seeing people here with 4000+ is making me regret my decision not to tryhard.

The 10 games actually doesnt have that much effect on your rating? or did you guys see any major changes in your ratings during the trial?

How did people check their hidden mmrs before?

The biggest problem in mm is your mmr is not representative of your skill level when you get carried a lot by better players in party. I have reasons to believe it was only the past few months valve tried to separate party and solo-queue more (separate mmr and try to pair both sides with similar party size. But right now way too many people have inaccurate mmr for the system to self-correct itself in a short time. I was hoping they do a reset on ranked mmr but sadly it did not occur.
Then again, i tried 2 games on uswest and had much better experience than most of my ranked games. It's a shame i just couldn't continue playing on that server with 300 ping. maybe its just us SEA server... god damnit

And: pink/blue is not the highest mmr but the one that accepted first, when u play in a stack and u r party leader but the third accepts first, you are in the pink slot obviously

I've gotta to say that ranked play has really motivated me again, it does help that i'm having a nice streak currently but having a concrete measure of improvement is really nice (i gained around 100 points since the end of placement games)

Don't let MMR get the best of you, prove to the world that you are in fact a good player. For the small fee of a few rares, Alurs Boosting Service™ will get you past ELO hell and let you play where you truly belong.

I also got friends that consider themselves as pretty good/decent... Most of them consider having 30-40 lasthits after 10 minutes on an absolutely uncontested freefarm lane to be "awesome" and don't buy more than 1 active item because "too much stress".
... The only fun thing about this is, that they consider me "WTFAWESOME"... Which i am clearly not (i haven't made my games yet but judging by the guys i play with normally, i'll probably end up somewhere in the mid 3XXX's)...

After placements, I ended up at 3.7k with ~900games, which probably is where I was before. I expected something closer to 4k but ok. I went 3-7 in placements with one server crash at 5min mark that counted as a loss for some reason.
But most of those games were still stupid. Combined solo and party matches cause problems most of the time. The skill variety is just too big. In one game I asked the captain to pick Chen for me, cuz I love playing Chen in a decent team. Well, The game was horrible, we never gathered to do anything with chen + mek. No 5-man dota, no smoke ganks no nothing. Just farming or feeding. My team just did not understand what chen is good for. After that game I realized that I was partied with ppl. way worse than me to match the other teams stack, which had a pretty big skill variety as well. So I was at 900games while my whole team was at 200-400 games each.
I believe the system considered me to carry the team or something but how am I supposed to know that? Picking chen does not add much if your whole team is stupid. With a mid hero or a carry you can win those kind of games on your own. But again, how are you supposed to know that?
With solo queue those kind of problems never existed. I only played solo queue because the games were better. I just feel that solo queue is the way this game should be played. Solo queue or 5v5 stacks.
Actually in the games I won, there were no stacks whatsoever, and the games were close and decent.

Thousands of players are Far, Far better than you after 200 games on their account. Get that into your head. Your 900 games are absolutely meaningless. Lots of 2K mmr players have more games than you, but obviously have no reason to disrespect your skill.

I make a new account every time I get an abandon cause I hate it. I only get them when the power in my house shuts down etc. Point is: Looking at games played is pretty pointless.
(I dunno why the resolution is so bad, I guess I suck at taking screenshots)

Nonono the real lesson here is that Rocketbear is a dirty scrub who deserves to be slandered far and wide on internet forums by professional 90th percentile 3.7K mmr players obviously. If only he played more dota!

You are.
To explain: you can't compare yourself to the best in the world at everything you do. You'll never be good at anything. Most people don't have the time to spend every waking hour on a single activity.
