UPDATE #3:
9 DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER
UPDATE #2:
Season 3 Registration has been pushed back to close on November 6th.
UPDATE:
- We have reduced the required number of players. Eu it is now 2 player minimum with a All-kill Bo5 format (no revives). AM it is now 3 with a All-Kill Bo7 format (no revives).
- If you do not have enough players at your school, email sc2@hsstarleague.com and we will see if you could participate alongside other relatively nearby teams or players.
Hello from the High School Starleague (HSL)! We are very excited for the upcoming school year and have some great events planned. In addition to our recent expansion into League of Legends and Dota 2, we will be using this season to experiment with a new format for playoff seeding, the POTENTIAL (depending on interest) addition of a European Division*, and possibly some extra secrets depending on how things go.
*EU Schools read here
+ Show Spoiler +
EU registration is up on the website at the moment alongside AM. Whether or not we will do an EU division this season is mostly determined by the number of schools that register from EU (need at least 10 for one division :D). It should be noted , however, that the long term existence of the Eu Division will depend largely on if we get any willing Europeans to help with some administrator roles for the division, primary among which would be answering questions on rules, resolving disputes, and a few other possible tasks. If interested in assisting, please email sc2@hsstarleague.com.
Season 3 Format:
We plan for this season to mimic the style of the SK Planet Proleague, with 2 rounds of different format. Round 1 will be an All-Kill GSTL format, and Round 2 will be the Lineup-Proleague format. Each round will span approximately one semester (8-12 weeks).
Playoff Seeding
*This section is subject to change, depending on how many teams participate in each round.*
Playoff seeding at the end of the year will be acquired by making it into the top 2 teams of your division in Rounds 1 or 2. If a team occupies a spot in the top 2 for both rounds then the next highest team in that division without a playoff seed will be given the Round 2 seed.
Also, depending on the number of divisions and if this total gives us an even 2n number of teams for the playoff bracket, we may also seed teams by their composite record and map score from the two Rounds.
There will be a new registration period for Round 2 to drop inactive teams and allow new interested teams to join. Any playoff seeding method we choose, even if we should change the current plan would be a plan in which it is possible to make it into playoffs even if you only played in Round 2.
Registration
This is a 3 step process. You must first register as a team coordinator, verify your email, and THEN you may register for specific events, such as the Season 3 - Fall 2013 round.

Schedule

Round 1 begins on November 9th.
Full schedule can also be found here
Eligibility
- Players must be currently enrolled in High School.
- Teams must have at least 4 players for Round 1. More is recommended though for substitutes in case some are unavailable to play.
- Teams can only* consist of players within one school.
*Note: If you do not have enough players at your school, please email sc2@hsstarleague.com with your school info and how many players you have so that we can potentially arrange to pair you with any nearby teams or free agents that we are aware of. This should serve as a last resort after having done all steps conveyed here in order to attempt to bolster your team’s numbers.
Divisions
Teams will be grouped with other teams in the same region. Divisions will be posted shortly after the registration period has elapsed is complete.
Round 1 Format
Round one will be played in an All-Kill Best of 7 format. First maps are set each week, losing team sends a new player in and the winning team does not change players until that player loses. The losing team also chooses the next map from the map pool and there are no map repeats allowed. Round 1 will also be played as a Round Robin. Teams will have the opportunity to play all the teams in their division before the conclusion of the round.
Tentative Round 1 Map Pool
Our selected maps are a mixture of GSL/OSL, WCS, and ladder maps.

Basics
- Players must keep with their declared race on the website for all games played for a given match, but between weeks they may change their declared race.
- Schools with more than one team entered, including two teams entered into separate tiers (Varsity and Junior Varsity) may not transfer players between teams during a round unless tournament admins properly are notified and explicit permission is given.
All-Kill Procedure
- Starting maps are fixed weekly. Please check the TL thread, Liquipedia entry for the season, or the on-site announcement (to be linked later) to find the specified starting map for the week.
- The winning player of the first match scores one point for their team. The winning player plays in the next game while the losing player can not be played again and his/her team must send the next player from their team out. This process of "winner stays on" continues until one team has generated the required 4 points to win the Best of 7 match.
- Maps that have already been played on earlier in the series cannot be selected again within the same series.
- Subsequent players must be officially declared in the channel to the opposing coordinator before the game is created so that it is known that that is the official will of the teams. Any games instigated by players without this process may be declared invalid if the coordinator had desired to field another player first.
Spectator Rules
- All observers must be spectators except for HSL Referees and casters.
- Spectators are allowed only if both team coordinators agree. HSL Referees or casters however are always allowed to join.
In Case of Lag
- If any latency issues or stuttering occurs, the problematic spectator must leave immediately.
- If it is a player who is experiencing these issues, he or she is required to type “pp,” pause the game, and resolve the issue as soon as possible.
- If the problem cannot be resolved within 5 minutes, a rematch can be requested.
In the Event of a Disconnect
- If a player disconnects before 2 minutes, it is a rematch unless in the rare case either player had received a significant advantage through scouting (ex: cheese).
- Disconnects past 2 minutes will be resumed with the Recover Game feature.
- IMPORTANT: In case of a disconnected game, if there is no HSL Referee watching the game, contact staff IMMEDIATELY. Do NOT watch ANY replay, so we can be sure no one cheats by looking at the replay before the game is resumed. In case no staff member is available, or you see someone reviewing the replay, take a screenshot of them in your friend list showing “Watching Replay”.
- In case a player experiences software or hardware failure or remains in the game despite lacking control over his units, a game will be resumed at the point before a critical problem begins to occur. In case of dispute, a staff member will review the replay and decide what time is suitable to use Recover Game.
Dispute Procedures
- If you observe or suspect a simple mistake in score reporting or recording, please email sc2matchreport@hsstarleague.com.
- If cheating, hacking, or other such acts are suspected, please save all replays relevant to the dispute and have one or both players involved email us (sc2@hsstarleague.com) with a well-written report detailing who, where, when, why, how, what cheating was used, along with the replay(s) attached.
- Generally in all dispute cases, if you do not have a replay saved as evidence yourself, staff cannot give you the benefit of the doubt.
Rules are Subject to Change
HSL reserves the right to update, change, alter, or clarify these rules at any time as they see fit or necessary.
