Speaking of goaltending, I am watching NJ-TB and trying to figure out why the fuck Marty is starting over Schneider at this point. Brodeur is coasting on rep at this point. His play hasn't merited anything more than seldom used backup. Schneider's been rock solid when he actually gets goal support.

But I agree -- i dont really understand why Marty is still playing instead of retiring. But then, the same can be said of the Devils GM too.

Its been decades since goal support was something NJ was able to provide for any goalie.

Outside of that stinker of a season before the final run, they were usually average-slightly above average, with a couple of low years in there. Point is starting Marty is ridiculous at this point. I think DeBoer is a very good coach, but his decisions with Marty have been awful. Schneider's been great all season. Even when he's been lit up, he's still looked good usually. Marty has looked like ass most of the time. DeBoer's choices with other skaters has been odd too

NJ doesn't score goals even when they win the cup. its all part of the Lamoriello system of hockey. in 1995 they were 13th in a 26 team league in scoring. and in 2003 they were 15th in scoring. of course the regular season means fuck all any way. Claude Lemieux won the conn smythe in a year where he scored 6 regular season goals.

First during the finals loss the following year! jimmy 'facts' great they lost in 2001 while coming in 1st in a meaningless stat. in 1995 they went 16-4 and fucking rolled every opponent they faced. they fucking ate the red wings. just fucking ate 'em. 13th in regular season offense. FACT. Your Conn Smythe Winner: Claude Lemieux... 6 goals in the regular season. That 1995 team was miles better than both the 2000 and 2001 teams. and if you want to convert there are 1.608 km in 1 mile. in my post i discussed the regular season offense of the 1995 and 2003 stanley cup winning teams. the only other year NJ won the cup was 2000. in that year Lamoriello was so satisfied with this "great regular season offense" that he fired the coach on March 23, 2000. that's how much big Lou gives a fuck about regular season offense. so the only year New Jersey won the Cup where there regular season offense put up any kind of #s at all.. .was the year big Lou fired the coach on March 23rd. that's how much big Lou gives a fuck about regular season offense. "its all part of the Lamoriello system of hockey."

That one anomaly, while impressive isn't much of a stat to base arguments on my point is that big Lou tolerated regular season dog fuckers like Lemieux, who had hte same disease most wingers from the "Q" have when it comes to playing defense in the regular season, because of his playoff goal scoring. Lou fired his longest serving head coach after he produced the best regular season offense in 4 years. you could score a million goals for Lou in the regular season.. he couldn't give a fuck. Ftorek produced a tonne of offense for Lou... slightest thing goes wrong .. insta-fired. Robinson produces lots of offense in 2001 and goes to the 7th game of hte finals.... fired Jan. 28 2002.

This is known as an 'incorrect' statement Your reasons for Ftorek getting canned are also completely wrong. He was fired because the team had a string of playoff disappointment that started in Lemaire's last year and continued with him. They were on a bad losing streak late in the season, something like .250 in nearly 20 games, despite adding Malakov and Mogilny, and Ftorek had vets like Daneyko and Marty disliking him, and other little things that pissed the players off. Not willing to risk another early exit, esp at the time when the team was being shopped around to prospective buyers, he pulled the trigger. also, outside of Lemaire's first few years there, the Devils have not been a trap team since the mid-late 90s. They got away from relying on it primarily once the team's skill level started to increase after the first Cup. They've always been built from the net out, but they've not been a trap team in ages.
