TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted Monday morning that Callahan - who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is now open to a six-year contract at less than $7 million per season. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun added that his asking price on his average annual salary is less than $6.5 million. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=445110 Still seems too much for what he is/what he brings.

he really doesnt deserve more than $5m. hes a grinder who gets points from stting out from on the pp. he's also been bad offesnively this season
i really really want them to trade him. zucc is better offesnively in every way, and should be getting his second line minutes

Maybe Burke because Callahan has a lot of blue collar work ethic and truculence or whatever burke uses to evaluate players..

Jesus Christ. He knows what Pavelski and Couture are making in San Jose, right? He sure as fuck doesn't deserve north of $6 million.

Ya the Sharks must be super pleased they got Pavelski for 6 million. That dude is having a great year.

This will probably be Pavelski's "career year," but he has been good for ~30 goals per year for a few seasons now. Locking up that kind of production long term at a reasonable rate is always good. His good defensive play is just an added bonus.

Edmonton Oilers have signed Ben Scrivens to a 2 year 4.6 million extension. Finally a move I can agree with by this team. Good price and term too.

Scrivens contract is nice. Low risk investment on a guy who could be decent.
As to Orlov, I am usually jaded about the league suspensions. There's a lot of gray area, the game moves faster than ever before, it's tough for people to re-learn some habits and for others to judge them for it. Orlov's hit ticked all the boxes of a complete and clear violation. And he didn't get a game misconduct because Schenn was not injured. Punishing the result, not the play itself. It's baffling to me that they wouldn't have handed out at least 5 games.

yeah, usually people go around trying to assing intent to things like a check where it isnt obvious what a person was doing.
that's about as obvious as it gets in hockey short of saying i am gonna go decapitate him and then swinging at his face

i think Eakins is a good hockey man. Eakins knows Scrivens very well from his time on the Marlies. i hope it works out well for both guys.... both deserve some good luck to fall their way.
got free platinums a few rows off the ice for the Blue Jackets/Leafs game... a few days prior i went to a local arena to watch some boys midget aaa.
i had a better time at the local arena watching the 14/15 year olds have fun. nhl regular season hockey is "ok", the problem is that so many other forms of hockey are amazing.
until they clean up the head injury epidemic in the NHL i'll continue to stay away from it.
the female olympians have been in full whine mode about all the cash the men make. the canadian women's olympic team is taking the rest of the year off ... so its hard to listen to their complaining when the men are back playing in a few days.
there were zero olympians at the Toronto Furies games on the weekend.
i think woody allen said it best : "80% of success is showing up"

Report: Boston Bruins Are ‘In On’ Thomas Vanek
Haggerty: Bruins’ Interest In Kesler Is To Drive Up Price For Pittsburgh

On March 05 2014 05:27 TriO wrote: Report: Boston Bruins Are ‘In On’ Thomas Vanek

The Vancouver Province's Ben Kuzma writes that Ryan Kesler won't waive his no-trade clause for the Columbus Blue Jackets and adds that the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings are the front runners for his services. Kuzma speculates that Brayden Schenn or Sean Couturier could address the Canucks' needs if Philly is in the mix. Why would Philly give up young guys who can occupy the same role as Kesler -- on a team that isnt threatening anyone in the playoffs -- for Kesler?
Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says says Kesler, defenceman Marek Zidlicky of the New Jersey Devils and Edmonton's Ales Hemsky are among the players the Penguins have interest in going into Wednesday's deadline. Seems to me like its much more likely that Hemsky will go to the Pens, although who is the veteran D man that the Oilers will try to get, Martin? With Letange recovering from his stroke -- can you ever recover from one to be a competitive player again? -- they probably would want to hang on to him no?
