from reddit + Show Spoiler +Lots of factors go into this. Many of the rules are said to be written in blood, for example cargo compartments didn't require fire suppression until after valuejet crash in the everglades in the 90's. Mechanics (like myself) are held to extremely high standards and regulations. I have the power to ground an aircraft by myself for any reason I feel necessary and cannot be reprimanded or face any repercussions from my airline. Pilot training is better than ever, and they also have the power to ground any plane for mechanical reasons and male a mechanic come look at it before they fly. Material science has led to production of much more reliable aircraft. We know pretty well how long a part should last before failure and many parts get changed and overhauled long before they actually break.
These are just a few examples of what has led to extremely safe and reliable aircraft. My airline has not only maintained a perfect safety record (so has everyone else), but over 99.9% of our thousands of daily flights do not get cancelled for mx reasons.
Flying commercial in the US is literally safer than walking.
Edit* yes I know I misspelled make with male
Yes I know Trump is claiming this safety record is his own achievement.... I don't care what side of the aisle you are, fuck any politician who tries to take credit.
You want to know who should take the real credit? The tens of thousands of my colleagues who dedicate their lives as mechanics, pilots, flight attendants, ATC, ground crews, airport ops, and gate agents.
I work for a regional, we have over 400 aircraft flying nearly 1,500 flights a day with less than 1 tenth of 1 percent getting cancelled for maintenance reasons. No politician or regulations makes that happen. That's the hard work of thousands of underpaid and underappreciated airline workers.

angry rant not really well taken, it’s stupid to me to imply a politician can’t take credit for regulation just because he’s not one of ‘the men on the ground.’ that’s good for an eye roll. he could stand to get a grip.
though again i can’t really recall any reason he can be taking credit. or why he thinks he’s been strict on air travel. so.
lol i can only imagine what he, and then everyone around him thinks right now. i would enjoy the awkwardness this must be for everyone else.

Obviously he's been strict on air travel by banning all those terrorist muslims from coming over to the US and crashing their airplanes because that's what terrorist muslims does /s

Didn't the Republicans try to push through some bill that allowed the 4 big airline corporations more say in how the FAA did things?
Edit: here's the first result from a quick web search: http://www.ibtimes.com/political-capital/trumps-plan-air-travel-allows-airlines-wall-street-take-over-skies-2548000 (it's old, from May or June. I can't tell with the archaic way people write dates)

The summary of the rant claimed that these results are not due to any regulations, and therefore there is no basis for a politician to take credit for them. It's not that he's not one of the men on the ground. It's that the result is not government controlled in the first place.
Based on that, his implication that no government official should be taking credit in any capacity seems reasonable.

in the paragraph directly after fucking all politicians, he goes on to say only (and obviously i’m paraphrasing) the men on the ground deserve the recognition.
as a seemingly intelligent mechanic one imagines he understands the countless regulation involved in flying, so any claim that there is no credit due to those able to enact these regulations is either just ignorant or stupid.
but it’s just one guy on reddit’s opinion so i’ll let that be the end of my critique of it.

idea for a novelty twitter: redo all trump's tweets in a presidential way. this one could be something along the lines of "kudos to the hardworking people in the NTSB and agencies around the world for making 2017 one of the safest years ever for air travel".
|
he's claiming credit for aviation being safe. the particulars and facts really don't matter at all. all that matters is projecting the image, and then some people believing him and giving him credit for it.
|
Based on Trump's tweets, Trump just heard about some serious Mueller shit.

Said he was a BIG fan of mine, and proud of our PROGRESS. Next, Crooked H and her emails! #MAGA’
i tried to make this a joke but now it just reads as too real. guess i won’t be taking up the cause.

The delusion of grandeur on this man knows no limits...
Would be a easy way to give a thumbs up and thank you to the blue collar mechanics who keep planes maintained but no this record is because HE is 'strict' (??) on commercial aviation.
Not to mention he'll probably do some proposal in the future to cut the regulations that led to this safety increase in the first place because airlines need more 'freedom to choose when it's safe to fly' or that Boeing's competitiveness is harmed by pesky safety issues brought up by big government

Orrin Hatch retiring. Senator Romney incoming, lol.

Dare he run against Trump after being in the spotlight? I think having Romney back in the spotlight getting interviews on Fox and whatnot is going to remind people conservatism doesn't need to be Trump. They don't need this insecurity-driven obsession with extremes. They can have a guy who is like "I don't really like poor people that much, but I shouldn't crash the healthcare industry"
