i have no idea what this means

You have a liberal Republican on spending that already hosted Infrastructure Week, but a Democratic Party too obsessed with united-front opposition to everything Trump to find the compromises.

Oh right, hosting a week of showing off is the same as legislation. My bad, I didn't see how those were one in the same

Not to mention isn't Trump's idea for infrastructure is to pay private companies to build infrastructure that they will then own so they can continue to monetize and profit off of it, effectively ruining the whole point of creating public infrastructure while also creating huge opportunities for money to be funneled into the hands of cronies, middlemen and other such drains on efficiency?

Isn't that already what AMTRAK is though? I might misunderstand that.

I think it depends on what line specifically, a cursory glance says that some tracks they own some they lease.

IIRC correctly in some of the areas they may own (Northeast corridor) they are still partnered with the local commuter lines and there's some sharing agreement going on there.

But it's still a for profit entity with federal funding, no?

Again, i might misunderstand it, entirely possible.

And that Trump likes to shit talk the democrats on twitter all the time. But its the Democrat's fault for nothing looking past that and cutting a deal.

See, trump is a master negotiator. He's forging a deal. You just wait, it's all planned (but as a silly democrat, you can't comprehend that). The reveal will be yuge.

You see, if Democrats had just worked with Republicans on repealing the ACA(they couldn’t, the bill was closed) this tax bill(also they couldn’t), they could have what they want. But it’s the democrats fault for not working on bills that the Republicans refused to allow them access to work on.

Its like welding the factory doors shut and then blaming the workers for not showing up for their shift.

That's what i mean. You don't see the bigger picture.
On track to MA1950A.

Trump already tweeted in response to the crash about his infrastructure plan. Him and Danglers are on the same wave length! He says the plan is "soon to be submitted."

Funny enough, 10min after that he tweeted a condolences tweet since ofc he didn't consider the humanity of the situation and had to be told by someone else after the fact to tweet about the lives lost.

Against all odds, forum poster decides his political allies were willing to compromise without evidence, and his political enemies were insincere from the start. Maybe you should just own up to #Resist to simply restore credibility. There’s a thought!

question, has there been legislation put forward on this? No? Really? You mean that all of his talk has actually been for nothing that actually matters so far? NO WAY!!!!!!

He’s got legislation on jack shit this first year. CRAs and a tax bill. His controversies are going to swing all ways on this one, and Democrats are fucking idiots for not working to craft legislation with a big spender in the White House and all these high-deficit R’s fragmenting the coalition. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, and elected D’s are too busy on Vote Impeachment ‘18 to even care.

It’s a pretty easy political move when he’s struggling to stamp his name on legislation. No Trumpcare (repeal and replace)... barely getting some Trump tax cuts going... no wall or legislation addressing DACA with compromises. Most everybody on the hill likes spending money. Here’s a news story that plays into it.

Don't you have to have approval from the speaker to bring a bill forward in the house? Why would Paul Ryan allow a vote on any Democrat legislation, especially spending he doesn't want.

The Republicans control both the Senate and the House. The Democrats cannot bring bills to the floor or craft anything that will come for a vote. You continue to have a 7th graders understanding of how congress works.

They should still craft it and make sure the court of public opinion loves it to force their hand. Worst case scenario nothing happens, but at least dems dont end up looking like reps after complaining for 8 years and not having worked out a gameplan.

I would need to triple check, but I think the house rules require the speaker’s approval for a bill to be debated or come to the floor. Post Republican takeover in the mid 90s, the Speaker of the House became a dictatorship that could prevent any bill from coming to the floor.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Friday that he intends to force a vote on a bill that would preserve Obama-era net neutrality rules, which the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decided to repeal this week.

Democrats want to use the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the FCC’s decision. The CRA gives Congress the ability, with a majority in the House and Senate, to repeal agency rules. Republicans employed the tactic frequently during the first half of the year to roll back rules passed during the last days of the Obama administration.

“One, this CRA doesn’t need the support of the majority leader,” Schumer said during a press conference at WeWork’s headquarters in New York. “We can bring it to the floor and force a vote. So, there will be a vote to repeal the rule that the FCC passed.”

“It’s in our power to do that and that’s the beauty of the CRA rule,” he continued. “Sometimes we don’t like them, when they used it to repeal some of the pro-environmental regulations, but now we can use the CRA to our benefit, and we intend to.”

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) announced on Thursday after the FCC’s vote that he and 19 other senators would be introducing the bill, and Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) has promised companion legislation in the House.

With Republicans in control of both chambers, the bill will have long odds. But net neutrality supporters plan to put the pressure on lawmakers to support the move. And a handful of Republicans, including Sen. Susan Collins (Maine), have come out in opposition to the FCC’s move this week. Still, it’s unclear how many GOP lawmakers, if any, will support the bill.

"Our Republicans colleagues have a choice — be on the right side of history and stand with the American people who support net neutrality, or hold hands with big corporations who only want to increase their profits at the expense of consumers and our economy,” Markey said, applauding Schumer's announcement.

this’ll be exciting. i can’t wait to see how the republican leadership defends going against the wishes of 80% of their constituents in favor of the big corporations that donate hundreds of thousands to their coffers.

and then to have the remaining 20% praise it as great politics.

of course, i would rather they do the right thing and represent their people, even if it costs me this moment.

President Donald Trump on Monday predicted that Republicans will perform “very well” in next year’s midterm elections, touting his party’s record last year in special elections to fill vacant House seats while claiming that he had predicted recent GOP losses in Virginia and Alabama.

“Remember, Republicans are 5-0 in Congressional Races this year. The media refuses to mention this,” the president wrote on Twitter. “I said Gillespie and Moore would lose (for very different reasons), and they did. I also predicted ‘I’ would win. Republicans will do well in 2018, very well!”

It was not clear why the president put “I” in quotation marks. Trump also amended the Twitter username for Fox News' “Fox & Friends” morning show, a program that gives almost unflinchingly positive coverage of him, to the end of his post.

Despite Trump’s claims that he predicted the respective losses of Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie in Virginia and senatorial candidate Roy Moore in Alabama, the president was outward in his support for both candidates. Trump endorsed both and implored voters to support them via Twitter. In Moore’s case, Trump recorded a robocall on behalf of the GOP candidate and stumped for him at a rally in Pensacola, Florida, just across the Alabama state line.

In Gillespie's case, Trump did not express doubt about the Virginia Republican's candidacy until after his Election Day defeat.

Omitted from Trump's online post was the victory by Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) in the special election to fill the vacant seat in California's 34th District, left vacant by Xavier Becerra's departure to serve as California's attorney general. The lone Republican who entered the special election for the reliably Democratic seat did not finish high enough in the race's primary to qualify for the June 6, runoff, where Gomez defeated another Democrat.

The defeats in Virginia and especially in deep-red Alabama have stoked concern among some Republicans that the GOP could face a difficult road in the 2018 midterms, weighed down by a president with low approval ratings, a failure to repeal and replace Obamacare and a tax cut bill on the verge of passing that remains unpopular with many Americans.

Even in the five Republican special election wins in House races across the country, Democrats performed much better than they typically might in those districts, mounting significant challenges even in some GOP strongholds like Georgia’s 6th District, Kansas’ 4th District and Montana’s single, at-large district.

does it need to go to the floor before being released to the public? if thats the case then maybe we should take advantage of some "leaks"

You have a liberal Republican on spending that already hosted Infrastructure Week, but a Democratic Party too obsessed with united-front opposition to everything Trump to find the compromises.

Oh right, hosting a week of showing off is the same as legislation. My bad, I didn't see how those were one in the same

Don't you have to have approval from the speaker to bring a bill forward in the house? Why would Paul Ryan allow a vote on any Democrat legislation, especially spending he doesn't want.

No. But there are tons of bills that exist, but will never make it to the floor. There isn’t a lot of debate that happens around bills that have a 0% chance of coming law. Even the ACA repeals of the past were covered with a “look, the GOP is back on its bullshit” style of coverage and debate.

The President campaigned on it, held press conferences on it as President, and Trump basically ran against the current establishment’s ideas and won. In an alternate universe where Dems weren’t still sore about the election loss, this was first six months bipartisan passage.

You mean in an alternate universe where republicans wrote bills that democrats could actually read?

to be fair though I guess republicans couldn't read it either. Yay bipartisanship.

Well was this over an area that amtrak actually owns the rails on?

One of the biggest reasons amtrak sucks is most of the time they aren't on their own rails they're buying time on other companies rails which is where you get all the delays etc.
