Whatever you want it to mean. I like to think Danglars was about to announce his conversion to the left, that he would fervently #Resist Trump, and would start fighting for specifically the equality of all races ardently. Unfortunately, before he could do so, he realised he hadnt taken the plastic packaging off his lunch, now spinning in the microwave. Accordingly we are all now left in suspense as he has to rush to the kitchen.

That just my interpretation though

I thought a large part of why america has so little train infrastructure was due to people still being pissed off about robber barons over a century later

One reason we have less trains in cities is because of car companies lobbying for Freeways instead of public transit (At least in LA)

Also our nation is fucking huge(like seriously, we are as big as all Europe and then some) and we need a feeway system. We need both, but never re-invested in trains. Many of our train lines are single rail line too. From my understanding, that is the big differences between US and the EU.

What do you mean by single rail line, a single train going back and forth on the same track?

Yes. With stop off points for trains to pass each other. I guess for large sections of our train system it exists like this, even in heavily trafficked areas. The EU's train systems are just far more modern in design and track lay out.

These kind of systems only exist in remote small communities where you don't need huge capacity for commuting etc.

It seems weird to me, everywhere else in the world where you have to move a lot of people, you have a great rail system. Not necessarily the most convenient thing in the world (i wouldn't want to use japanese tubes etc, i hate crowded places with passion), but gets the job done. Next to a good freeway/highway/autobahn/wangan system, these are not mutually exclusive.

I do understand that from state to state it's a bit harder (although we do have international train transport in europe too), but the issue isn't just there.

edit: that being said, just to whine a little bit, the US system sounds a lot like the british rail system. At least in wales, it's atrocious and the most clunky/inconvenient piece of work i've ever seen.

And of course, all diesel, so you get cancer while you freeze your balls off waiting on a train that has a high chance of being late/flat out cancelled.

Most of the infrastructure we built in the US was created during a specific period of time post WW2. That is when the US capped off wiring the country’s phone and electrical grid. It is also where we build our highways, subways and some airports. But since the 1980, we haven’t done shit. And we don’t do shit until the federal government decides to build trains across this nation. Because no state can afford it and they quickly run out of state to build those trains in.

Some places are figuring it out. Boston suddenly realized that Bus only lanes and roads is as good as having a subways system. It is fast, efficient and cuts down on delays. So we are trying to build one and everyone in the city is losing their minds because they closing down lanes on roads. Its sort of a nightmare, but one that I really hope catches on. Because having two lane roads that only buses travel on is an amazing idea.

You have a liberal Republican on spending that already hosted Infrastructure Week, but a Democratic Party too obsessed with united-front opposition to everything Trump to find the compromises.

I haven't seen a dedicated lane yet, unless seeing 4 of the same bus in a line counts.

I win Danglars Bingo. But Kollin's post likely the most accurate depiction.

They are trying it in Roslindale first, since that area is high demand. So you can see it if you are willing to drive around Roslindale, which itself can be a harrowing experience.

Against all odds, forum poster decides his political allies were willing to compromise without evidence, and his political enemies were insincere from the start. Maybe you should just own up to #Resist to simply restore credibility. There’s a thought!

Not to mention isn't Trump's idea for infrastructure is to pay private companies to build infrastructure that they will then own so they can continue to monetize and profit off of it, effectively ruining the whole point of creating public infrastructure while also creating huge opportunities for money to be funneled into the hands of cronies, middlemen and other such drains on efficiency?

By now we should refer to it as "12D chess". You have to make up so much stuff to make it seem sensible, why not a few dimensions too.

I think it depends on what line specifically, a cursory glance says that some tracks they own some they lease.

IIRC correctly in some of the areas they may own (Northeast corridor) they are still partnered with the local commuter lines and there's some sharing agreement going on there.

And that Trump likes to shit talk the democrats on twitter all the time. But its the Democrat's fault for nothing looking past that and cutting a deal.

By the way, the Republicans control both sections of congress and what bills come to the floor. So they run the table. But forget that and lets blame Democrats for the lack of infrastructure.

Again, i might misunderstand it, entirely possible.

And that Trump likes to shit talk the democrats on twitter all the time. But its the Democrat's fault for nothing looking past that and cutting a deal.

See, trump is a master negotiator. He's forging a deal. You just wait, it's all planned (but as a silly democrat, you can't comprehend that). The reveal will be yuge.

Good thing we're prioritizing infrastructure spending and finding the money to pay for it....oh wait....

Good thing #Resist doesn’t have bad side effects...oh wait...

i have no idea what this means

You have a liberal Republican on spending that already hosted Infrastructure Week, but a Democratic Party too obsessed with united-front opposition to everything Trump to find the compromises.

Oh right, hosting a week of showing off is the same as legislation. My bad, I didn't see how those were one in the same

Isn't that already what AMTRAK is though? I might misunderstand that.

I think it depends on what line specifically, a cursory glance says that some tracks they own some they lease.

IIRC correctly in some of the areas they may own (Northeast corridor) they are still partnered with the local commuter lines and there's some sharing agreement going on there.

But it's still a for profit entity with federal funding, no?

Again, i might misunderstand it, entirely possible.

You see, if Democrats had just worked with Republicans on repealing the ACA(they couldn’t, the bill was closed) this tax bill(also they couldn’t), they could have what they want. But it’s the democrats fault for not working on bills that the Republicans refused to allow them access to work on.

Its like welding the factory doors shut and then blaming the workers for not showing up for their shift.
