4-8 coreswith 8 Gigs of ram, amazing graphics card, liquid cooled system, alienware.
Alienware is an overpriced brand that overcharges by hundreds of percent on almost everything, and gives you locked bios etc, you cant overclock. An enthusiast $1k PC will thus outperform any alienware system until they throw in the 6 core intel cpu's (which start at $2399) at which point you could, alone, match that with the best single GPU avalible, overclock the CPU, and beat alienware performance-wise in every way, skipping the shit, like the 16gb/32gb of RAM that they force you to buy at $300/16gb, which is over three times the price of Corsair Vengeance iirc, at like $500+ less, even if you hired somebody to order the components and build it for you.
I dont know why you want an 8 core system, the only 8-cores avalible right now are the fx-8000 bulldozer series, which are outperformed by the intel pentium dual cores (sub-i3 pricepoint) in Starcraft 2 and Guild wars 2, and id bet quite a few others too.
Water cooling is completely unnecessary, i dont know why people want it in the first place, air matches or outperforms water at various price points and the difference in cooling avalible is only needed for either quieter-than-normal operation on a performance machine (different niche) or for the extra few degrees for more extreme levels of overclocking at enthusiast level

My computer would have 600-700 CPUs, as many graphics cards, and liquid helium cooling, all powered by an electrostatic containment fusion reactor. The monitor would be two meters tall, would wrap around 180 degrees of view angle at a radius of two meters, would have 72 dpi, a contrast ratio of [Sun's photosphere]:[Black hole's event horizon], and the ability to compensate for defects (astigmatism, etc.) in the eyes of the viewer. The speakers would have flat frequency response, 100-watt RMS output, and a signal-to-noise ratio of [Nuclear bomb]:[Butterfly flapping its wings]. The mouse and keyboard would be controlled by thought alone.

Well Im on a mac so basically any PC would do

@op: I build my own PC every 4 years or so, with cost being my limiting factor. I guess if I didn't need to worry about money, I'd go for an intel system with liquid cooling and dual gfx cards. Those are all the money options that I look at and turn down when I'm building a system haha.

A small cube with an edge length of one inch capable of projecting a screen into the air and processing power on par with the best desktops of today.
In short: a magic computer

Who needs a cube. Just have it built into glasses, clothing, or skin.

for me, the peripherals make or break the system -- and can also be more costly than the computer hardware itself.
i currently have a USB-dac, tube amp, speaker/headphone sound system ( could be upgraded to something even more high end), DAS mechanical keyboard ( thinking of switching to the red switches) , a 27" ips monitor (recently acquired, sweet as hell), and a zody haworth ergonomic chair ( no complaints here). I could definitely do with a better sound system and slightly better hardware (new GPU for instance). Otherwise though, it's fairly close to my dream set up.

I'm the opposite, I like large cases with as much technology as I can fit in there with loud fans and a cooling system that sounds like my refrigerator. I would build a super computer but video software doesn't allow for 10 video cards. GET ON THIS DIRECTX!.

It's like a 500% markup in some cases. Maybe more, not sure.
In any event, I'm pretty close to my 'ideal' setup atm. I have plans to get a 2nd card to run in Crossfire (but I already run things on max so it's more just 'cause why not), 6 more gb of RAM (again, 'cause why not), a 4th monitor that I can mount vertically over my middle monitor (I have 3 horizontally aligned), and at some point (lets say next 6 months), a good HD TV not connected to my computer, but complementing the setup.
A few more TB of HDDs (probably 3-4 more 2 or 3 TB internals).
Oh, and a ~1000W UPS.
I think that covers everything.

Why not put this in blogs or something? Weird general thread >_>
A VR or AR kind of machine would be pretty cool though.

Skyr knows what I'd up.
I would have my own augmentation (think deus ex) developed that would let me play games through my eyes

basically what I have now but with a headset that doesnt break every five damn minutes ><

It's not just a few "extra degrees" water-cooling when overclocking shines and ouperforms air coolers due to the heat capacity water can hold, but yes if you aren't overclocking then any air cooler is fine.

I actually just kind of built a "Dream" PC this past summer. Here's what I came up with after working for 8 months to afford it.
i7 2700K @ 5.1ghz daily XSPC Raystorm Waterblock EVGA Z68 FTW with Heatkiller MB-X Waterblocks 8GB G.Skill DDR3 2400 EVGA Superclocked Signature GTX680 OCZ Vertex 4 SSD 120GB WD Caviar Black HDD 1TB 950w PC Power and Cooling PSU XSPC RX360 Radiator XSPC Dual Bay Reservoir Laing D5 variable pump Compression Fittings Switch 810 Case
Idles at 32c, 100% load 68c. Highest I've got the 2700k was 5.3ghz, it will post at 5.8ghz but I cannot make it to windows over 5.3. From off to completely ready and idle in under 20 seconds, runs everything pretty damn well. Here's a pic from right after I got it together, before cleaning up the wiring and lighting:

Cpu Validation @ 5.288ghz

Keep working! If you really want it and save, it can be yours too!

No offense, but you are straight up misinformed or just have no idea what you're talking about. A friend of mine has a 2600k system with a Prolimatech Megahalems, one of the very best air coolers money can buy with 2 120mm fans in push/pull @ 1600rpm. His system idles around 50c and under full load at stock clocks (3.8ghz) can hit upper 60's, low 70's. By comparison my system (the one shown in the post above) is idling much lower and under load is much cooler, even heavily overclocked at 5.2+ghz. When we overclocked his air cooled 2600k we were only able to hit 4.5ghz before temperatures were hitting 80+C under load. This is dangerously high for a daily overclock. The people that watercool want a high overclock all the time, it allows you to run your system at it's highest reasonable overclock without ever worrying about temps! I certainly wouldn't point at 20+C in many cases as a small difference between a quality custom loop and a high end air cooler. For the price? Sure, Air is fantastic but if you're serious about doing real overclocking and running a noticeable daily overclock, a custom water loop is absolutely the way to go. I'll say this, I've built MANY air cooled systems before and I'll never go back. I'd never be able to run the silly daily overclock I do on my system now on air safely and overall my system is a hell of a lot quieter and runs cooler. Pricey? Yea, it is. Worth it? Every penny.

Oh god no. If your friends know much about computers you're destined to be laughed at. Let me put it this way:
Say you and your friends are all into fashion, the latest stuff, the hottest stuff, you are all trying to out compete each other in what fads are coming and going, then one day you think you'll have them all topped just because you went to Target and bought all of their "designer" stuff and you go to show it off to all your fashion buddies... Many a rofl will be had at your expense. Alienware is pretty much the namedrop that proves you don't know much about computers (especially because computers, unlike fashion like in my analogy) have much more objectivity in what is better or worse. Alienware is OBJECTIVELY bad, not the best, not even close to it. Alienware is the kid who thinks he is the greatest SC2 player in the world because he can beat the insane AI 1v1...
Show up to a big LAN and start bragging about your $2000 Alienware laptop, then you'll see what I mean.
PLEASE DON'T BUY AN ALIENWARE COMPUTER, for the love of GOD, do some research, SHOP, don't just oogle and buy buy buy. Get off of Best-Buy and go here:
Newegg Monitors PC Build Search the Forums here and on Reddit and other places where computer-savvy people congregate, there's a lot of knowledge waiting to be shared on the internet, especially about PC building, just ask, don't just assume the flashiest stuff is the best.

Fuck watercooling, i want a completely submerged oil-cooling pc. Loudless and looks cool!

I would agree with Kammatiazo. I have a friend who has an Alienware. He came over and saw my system and asked me where I got it and what I paid for it. I built it, and we both paid about the same amount of money for our computers. Mine is way faster, runs cooler, and looks badass with UV reactive coolant and cold cathodes. He told me he's building his next PC.
